I can completely drift away with his piano playing. Stunning to hear something that perfect. In terms of dynamics and touch. And what I love above all are his voicings. There is so much smooth mistery in it.
John is a friend, here in Niagara. I'm only hearing this recording for the first time, but thought because of your comment, I'd let you know that J.S. used to tour with Oscar, to sit in and play, when he required breaks in the evening. I don't know what bigger compliment a pianist could have, than to be hired, for that job! John is surreal, to hear, in person. His playing often (without his meaning to...lol) reminds me how little I know about music!
I'm moving to Canada just to hear him.
Right from the beginning I was hooked. I love the way you phrased the chords and it just kept getting better...
BRAVO! The playing was absolutely enchanting. And as a bonus the piano was beautifully tuned and in good voice. Rare for a bar.
Very well done. If only I can play like that!

You're rt. He voices w/ 4 th s giving a very bright/lush sound.
Did you hear that Misty quote too?
Amazing phrasing on the piano solo. Very modern lines, with a touch of tradition and some Jarrett too in there. Would love to hear more :)
Not just phrasing, but Mr. Sherwood's chord composition... good Lord!!

Violates Barry Harris' rule on playing cords and a single not in the right hand.......
