I own a 2022 Lexus RX 450h f sport. Great vehicle and it gets close to 30 mpg. The last model year RX with a V6, it cruises like a dream, and gives you the power whenever you need it at whatever speed you’re going. It’s also been fun and reliable to drive with zero problems in the past six months of ownership. This RX has been a great choice for my family.

I was shopping in Aug. 2016, looking at the Mazda CX-9. I came close to buying that car, but when I took advantage of the dealer's generous offer to let me take it for a spin on my own, I came back realizing I would not be able to choose the CX-9. After about a 20 minute drive, my left leg was already hurting from the cramped leg and hip room. The driving position, complicated by my wide ass, forced me to press my leg against the left footwell wall. (Being 5'6" and 200 lbs did not help.) Anyway, it brings up the issue of SUV's having larger center consoles that cramp the front seats. So, it is important to try it before you buy it! I don't know how people can really completely buy on-line without a good test drive. So I ended up with a 2017 Kia Sorento EX, with the Lamda V6, 290 horsepower, and really love it. I have read some critical reviews of the current iterations for the last couple of years--build quality and the dual-clutch auto they use now are not as good as my model year. If I get a subsequent car, I would look for a gently used Lexus RX. Thanks for the article, it is just what I was looking for.

Good question. I wouldn't generalize that one is consistently more reliable than the other because you can find plenty of terrible examples for both. Each have benefits in other ways, but the type of construction isn't necessarily an indicator of reliability.

The MDX is a hit and miss. I test drove 4 2022 MDX from base to the top and I have experienced problems with the transmission going into neutral between third and fourth gears for a second or two when coming out hard off the corners. I immediately pointed it out to the sales rep with me but they couldn’t find anything wrong and that issue is hard to replicate when we drove it with their technician.
I thought I was alone on that but savagegeese has the same problem with their long term tester MDX.

Just bought the Toyota hylander 2023 after owning the 2010 Mazda cx9. I have only owned my Toyota for a week and everything I read/watch say it's an awesome car. The inside is nice, the dashboard is easier to use than the other cars I tested. It doesn't feel too big like the Pathfinder, and I like the middle row bucket seats so my kids don't have to climb over the seat to get to the back or third row. Highly recommend if you are looking for a car right now.

After 35 years of driving Toyotas, now I only drive the Volvo XC60 and nothing comes close to it in Safety, seat comfort and its very reliable. Once you drive a Volvo, you will not go back to Japanese car.

@Curtis Mills I am not sure if you understood what I stated. You buy Volvos, for safety, luxury and comfort not reliability even though I have 100k of trouble free driving on my 2016 XC60.
You will appreciate Volvo when you are in the major accident. Not sure what happened to your car but mine is serviced by the dealer and it runs like a Swiss watch. Toyota/Lexus lines are also very ugly and look cheap next to Volvos. Again. I don't care about reliability now that I am in mid life and I have an income of over $500k. When I was younger, I bought Toyotas and even Honda Accords for kids but now. I want the safe car, most comfortable seat and nice luxury, Volvos are unique among European cars and look very good.

You don't mention they all have CVT transmissions that have been known for problems.

Suprised Lexus is on there. Also, I wouldn't consider a highlander mid-size.

Another excellent review topic choice we are interested in 😊 ✅
RAV4 Hybrid, Highlander Hybrid and Lexus NX Hybrid. Topguns. #1.
Acura sucks now. Fuel economy brutally awful. Almost twice the fuel usage of the NX and RAV4! Old, dated styling too. 4Runner awful, terrible fuel economy and very dated.
I’m definitely your #1 subscription viewer. 1st to view your 1st episode and haven’t missed 1 show. 🏆

I was drawn by the reliability aspect. You didn't cover that at all. This was more like a promotional video.
A number of SUVs you promoted have chronic problems as documented by car complaints.
