    it makes a big difference what fabric the tights are made of. take e. g. fleece or woolen tights or layer two pairs on top of each other and it's as warm as a pair of trousers i'd say :)
    thanks for your tips 😊

      Never would have thought of two pairs of tights! I do find fleece tights are a lot warmer than jeans for sure. I would love to find affordable wool tights if anyone has recommendations. Or at least if they are pricey I would love to hear what brands are worth the $$

      I often find tights much warmer than jeans (never wear them anymore). You kan also layer a cotton legging under a nice tight, fx a 80 denin.
      I personally really like the tights from Snag, and they have woolen ones too. They are more expensive, but I personally find that they are worth it. Alternativly H&M have thigger cotton tigths that's also quite warm 🙂

    My fave tip when layering tights over tights, or socks over tights, is to wear footless or stirrup tights on the bottom layer. It prevents excess tension on the toes.

  • @lestranged
    @lestranged 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +48

    My secret is a half-slip. What some people are calling a "slip skirt" but the proper name is a half-slip. It's especially good for unlined midi or maxi skirts that cling to leggings. (because I wear leggings under skirts when it gets colder, they are warmer than tights) It's so annoying to walk and have your skirt cling and bunch up between your legs. A silky slippery nylon half-slip solves that problem and keeps the skirt hanging free and moving in a flowing way.

    • @downtoearthsewing
      @downtoearthsewing 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Total slip fan here! I have a black and a nude, and I wear them all the time. I couldn't stand my skirt sticking to the tights all day long 😂

    • @beepwrld
      @beepwrld  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      @@downtoearthsewing especially on those dry winter days when the air is so full of static electricity and you get little shocks touching your hair or a car door. They make slips that have anti-static properties!

      @@beepwrld You're welcome! I have a white one and multiple black ones in different lengths. In summer I also love a petti-slip or pettipants (might be called by either name) but it's made of nylon slip fabric but in a loose culotte cut. It's like flowy slip shorts. It eliminates thigh chafing and is WAY more comfortable and cool and airy than wearing bike shorts under skirts and dresses. All of the modern anti chafing shorts are tight and clingy and give swamp-a$$, but grannies knew better. You need airflow!

    I think fleece lined tights under a skirt are warmer than pants. You get a "mitten effect" where the heat from both legs becomes trapped under the skirt and keeps your whole bottom half warm, rather than the legs being isolated in the pant legs like fingers in gloves.

  • @downtoearthsewing
    @downtoearthsewing 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +45

    I love leggings + socks + boots. Fleece-lined leggings are a game-changer imo.
    Another key item is a slip. It helps your skirt move freely and not stick to your tights.
    A longer skirt or dress with a slip (or lining) plus fleeced tights and boots and a good overcoat keep me warm enough, so I don't see the need to try the more creative options 😊
    Don't forget hats, gloves, and scarves. Like you said, keeping the top warm is very important.

    • @adventurousmagpie4598
      @adventurousmagpie4598 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      +1 to slips! Crucial imo. Also helps in the summer, especially if you tend to buy cheap polyester dresses at the thrift store and then sweat to death.

      Slips are a great idea. They help skirts and dresses flow and if something fits snugly, they make it more forgiving.

  • @missmeakat
    @missmeakat 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    I'm disabled with bad circulation so I'm always cold - fabric type makes a huge difference. Any kind of wool (cashmere, merino, lambswool) is much warmer than synthetic fibres, especially merino thermal leggings and tops. I usually find lots of wool jumpers and skirts second hand too!

    Love the ideas here. I have a maxi skirt and dress combo that I'm now keen to try! My biggest issue with longer skirts is the snow and slush. Not just because of the mess , but because my snow boots, by necessity, do not mess around with being stylish. I wear big, clompy, kamik boots. They look ridiculous with anything that's not leggings/skinny pants. Oh well. Maybe I'll only look nice indoors!

    What perfect timing; I just searched for this very topic a few days ago!
    I second everyone recommending fleece leggings! I wear them almost daily from October to April. I also recommend flannel skirts! I made a few from old flannel bedsheets in the 1700s tie-waist style, and they are the BEST for keeping warm in winter! Fleece leggings plus two or three long skirts are much warmer than just leggings with jeans. 1700s petticoats are simple and easy to make. American Duchess has a free pattern on their blog, highly recommend it.

    I know it’s a little safe, but I like the Nanny method where you just wear a matching base and then layer a dress or skirt over it. My personal favorite is cheetah print. Ill have to challenge myself to winterize my dresses because they are not the right material, but my skirts will work great with some of the ideas in the video. I have a lot of statement pieces that don’t get seen in winter but absolutely should, like a full length, sheer purple, vintage lingerie dress. I am going to try to layer it over my black mermaid skirt and a black turtleneck.

I can take my daily 1 hour walk and ✨not die✨ easily! Not to mention midi-skirts won't get as dirty in "wonderful" city snow (aka puke) as a pair of jeans would. Today my colleague was like -- "how aren't you dead tho", while she was wearing her skinny jeans with nothing underneath. Come on, girl :) Moral of the story -- learn to dress for the weather, peeps! Great tipps. Love them all. I have been wearing skirst and dresses for years now through all seasons. I have another tipp for you concerning leggings (which I prefer to tights any time - tights seem to fall down on me and leave this uncomfortable sagging bit between my legs - if you know what I mean - feels like beeing in Kindergarten again with woolly tights in the seventies - yikes) Anyway: I use thermal leggings under my dresses and skirts or I sometimes even wear two pair of leggings over each other. Works great. Depending on what look I go for, I sometimes wear light cotton pants over my leggings; the ones that have elastic on the leg hem and are like 3/4 lenght. It gives it a kind of Bloomer Look. If those 3/4 pants have lace trim, it looks even better under skirts (don`t forget the leggings underneath ;-) ) . The tipp of wearing knee highs under the leggings is also great. Sometimes leggings can ride up on the bottom, leaving bare skin around the ankles, if only wearing socks. I really came to love the knee high solution.

    Also! FLEECE LEGGINGS if you live where it's really cold. A black fleece legging will also look just like tights. And you can add some scrunchy wool socks with doc martens, chunky loafers, or combat boots instead of tall boots to get some different looks. Fleece leggings + layered skirts would be extra, super cozy too.
    Liz - I loved the red dress over the white skirt. That's a very Christmas-y look that would be really cute for going caroling or to an outdoor market or festival. It was SO cute on you!
    I'm also thinking if you added the short plaid dress over the dress and skirt, then a long black coat with some red accessories that would also be such a perfect, cozy holiday look!

    sometimes your videos are a bit too wild for my taste. I watch them purely because the combinations are very artistic to me and you're so upbeat it makes me happy. BUT THIS VIDEOOO I feel was made for meee. Thanks so much now I will now go EXPERIMENT.
    PS: PLS make a video about how to dress cute when you're an athlete or dancer. tbh would be awesome to see you do some dance aesthetic inspired fits as well. Hugs from NYC

    After watching this video maybe I finally have the courage to wear skirts in winter. In example, on those warmer winter days for starters

    Awesome! I combo dresses and pants quite regularly, but there were still a lot of new aspects and ideas to discover in your video. It feels like a part of a series, together with the layering one that made me discover your channel.
    All the best!

    I wish it was cold enough where I live to have this problem 😂 For me it's the opposite. Skirts are a good option to style in winter without overheating from all the layers and cute jackets, sweaters and scarves I want to wear

    One of my few potentially winter weather dresses is a berry corduroy shirt dress. It has a lot of potential, but if I wear it just as it is it ends up looking way too FLDS sister wife. Any suggestions for how to make a long corduroy shirt dress more chic/eccentric/etc.?

    I like to put tights and biker shorts on top of the tights to keep warm under the skirts, this way I wear also short skirts and dresses in a colder weather. Then I of course wear tall boots, so that there really isn't much leg with tights only exposed at all.

    I am wearing leggings and skirts indoors and out. Because I'm on the ground floor so it's freezing in here. Today I've also got on a jumper, fleece and snoodie yes I've had the heating on but as soon as I turn it off its freezing again. So it's a snoodie and blanket all the way.

    I can’t wear tights and other garments that are too tight around my abdomen. It’s honestly so frustrating when people just say to wear tights to keep warm. I want drama! I want avante garde! I want fantasy! No tights
