I cut my drum corps teeth on this show. I wanted my high school band to be like this.

A youngster was stating that no musical ensemble could move and triple tongue like some modern line. I had to set them straight with this video. Massive exposure.

Ray Peery thanks Ray! It was a great year marching with the St Andrews in 73’. Still gives me the chills when I see this and am reminded of the hard work and heart we put into practice and drills , and all while young teens.

Some people had football, baseballand other activities as a discipline . THIS was ours. A commitment of 113 members(Or Better) Not counting the admistration , directors and instructors and that was just for 1 corps. There were a massive ammount of moving parts that made it happen @@senseipatten

Color guard really shined! Nice visuals. Those checkered flags really pop and have a dignified, antique look. And the sound of those G horns during the exit, pointed away from the stands. I'm afraid that sound is gone forever.

So sad, we lost such a great activity, in my opinion DCI, is the reason for the demise of what was one of the greatest activities in North America. They have turned it into a marching band competition, superimposed on a three ring circus. Nothing against marching bands, but I Far Cry from a real drum and bugle Corps, such as what you are witnessing right now.

We stayed at St. Andrews church in Bayonne in '73, and I remember some of the horn players trying to teach us their triple tonguing technique. We (Royal Lancers, Portand , OR) marched in World Open and the Dream Contest that summer.

When I was a member of the Floyd Bennett golden eagles, from Brooklyn New York, 1960 and 1961, I played snare drum. But I wanted to mention our, Bugler's, many of them learned how to triple tongue, we played it, in our concept formation, in 1961 playing Carnival of Venice, and then in several other numbers. In 1960 our brass quartet, competed for the very first time in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Manhattan serenade and, Bugler's Holiday, triple tongue throughout the quartet piece. They took first place, ten points ahead of, st. Kevin's Emerald Knights, from Dorchester Massachusetts, beating them by little over 10 points. They were at that time the national champions, I believe they wanted the week before this competition that repeat the night. Hy dreitzer, what is our brass Ranger, and George Rodriguez instructed the, hornline, having them exercise using triple tonguing altogether, with the buccal laying flat on the palm of the hands. Would not allow them to grip the bugle at all. In our very first competition in Upstate New York we took first place overall, our second competition was Garfield's Invitational, where we beat st. Lucy's Cadets, they will last and I believe we were second-to-last but we will competing against Blessed Sacrament golden knights, I believe sing Kevin's I could get the roster. But anyway after being announced ahead of st. Lucy's Cadets there was a Ruckus going on between the horn lines, I believe st. Lucy's was quite upset being beat by somebody they never even heard of. What great memories we are on the Fleetwood album called brass by night, they recorded the top for drum and bugle Corps in the metropolitan New York area, Floyd Bennett golden eagles, Selden Cadets, Saint Albans Queens men, Loretto nights. Floyd Bennett, on that recording only had 16 beautifulest to snare drummers 110 or drum one substitute bass and one substitute symbol, the other half of all drunk or work at a different location, communication issues. We ran through all repertoire once waiting for the other half to arrive, that never happened plus the police received the phone call we would disturbing, the piece it was on a Sunday evening, in a school parking lot. We had no time to warm up and we ran to a repertoire one-time with no warm-up and that's what made the recording. I wish we would have had a full, Drum Corps we competed with 32 bugles, three snare three tenor, two bass in one symbol. There are several other recordings of us with the full ensemble. Today is July 29th 2023. The story I just told you seems like just yesterday.

The uniforms they're wearing off from the, Selden Cadets from Selden Long Island after they disbanded they sold it to the, St Andrews, Bridgman the first time I wore the, one yellow coats and pimp hats, I believe it was 76 I was on my way back from school in King of Prussia Pennsylvania Spirit had a copy of Drum Corps World in my car, notice there was a competition on Saturday night which was that day, Veterans Memorial stadium I believe that's when they show their new uniform for the very first time. They entered the stadium from a distance between a street beat and then as they entered the stadium the crowds start going wild seeing turn on the new uniform for the very first time turn❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
