I also marched with Muchachos 1968 - 1975. If you see a picture of our last number, I'm next Jeff, holding up the #1 hand salute. The crowd was amazing that night.
I was there that night as well and it was one of the greatest moments in DC history. The crowed went absolutely wild at the end of the Jeff Klevit solo.
I wish I could time warp modern drum corps fans back to 1974 or 1975, sit them on the 50 yard line, and watch their reaction to the volume of the brass lines.
Modern day DCI has no clue on what drum corps is about PERIOD!!!!! I about fell out when I had seen trombones and amplifiers being used the first time!!!! Wusses!!!! Can I get a HEEL YA!!!!! SERIOUSLY and HONESTLY, WHY
I agree with you 100% call GCI n d c a is turn the activity into a marching band competition, superimposed on the three ring circus today it's more like a dance program doing ballet with costumes . We no longer have real drum and bugle c o r p s former member of the Long Island sunrises 1964 through 1968. Also former member of the Floyd Bennett golden eagles from Brooklyn New York 1960 and 1961 as a snare drummer❤❤❤
when I was in high school at Kosciusko, MS back in the mid and late 70's our band took the field using a piece composed by one of our members titled "Muchachos", which was a composite piece taken from this show. Your Drum and Bugle Corp gave our band much inspiration and we admired your talent greatly. Thanks for posting this as it brings back many good memories.
I marched Cabs that year. They practiced on the other side of the park from us. From the first time I heard that show I knew it was something very special.
I was there in person to witness Muchachos they were outstanding far above any other core at that time they definitely should have won if they want disqualified many of the other competing course head over age members as well very unfair that politics into drum and bugle Corps has Former member of the Long Island Sunrisers 1964 thru 1968
Well, here's a West Coaster that loves The Muchachos. I also wore out the vinyl record, back in the day. I love my Blue Devils, but who couldn't love The Muchachos?
Kerchner's Pictures of Spain was/is an all-time drum corps classic... maybe the best ending of a production ever, plus Kievit's solo. Delucia's drum line was unbelievable. If not for the DQ in 75 they might have gone on to be a perennial DCI power. And (just a guess, with Kerchner & Delucia locked in at Muchachos) maybe no Bridgemen, at least the way they were.
As a 76,77,78 Bridgemen, I Never thought of that. Our Class b corps- OLS STORMY KNIGHTS, played Kerschner music( he wrote for both those years), so we were torn between Bayonne Bridgemen and Hawthorne Muchachos in the fall of 75.
Though many disagree with me, I like Madison's 1980 version much better than their 1988 version that had too much dead space in its middle. But wow, does this Muchachos' version ever hop! Less technical intricacy, maybe due to the rotary valve horns, but so much raw emotion! Just unbelievable!
As a Bridgemen 76,77,78, we toured with Madison Scouts in 77/78. That 78 version off the line was amazing also. But 88 with the drill- Spin around Tops them all in my opinion.
I marched in that show and I will never forget it 1974 was the best year of my drum corps life
You guys were awesome! I still play my cassette tape crusing around! Peeps hear mary Ann be like what! Lol sop Commodores
Thank you for an incredible musical memory! Jeff Kievit was amazing!
…Dave. - Bleu Raeders Drum & Bugle Corps
1974 was the year Del made 13th... you were part of that?
❤
Incredible ....amazing drum corps...should have won in Ithaca

I just missed 75. Marched 76, 77 and until the end in the winter of 78. Marched the rest of my Drum Corps career with the Cabs 78-96.
Loved the show! Jeff was really on that night !
One of the greatest drum corps performances ever
I was there...........no words to describe them.......they were like the Beatles.
Championship contenders back then, at least to my ears. 😎
In my favorite top 5 drum corps shows of all time. I literally wore out the record listening to this as a kid!
One of the top 5 drum corps ever, hard core and in your face.
Goosebumps even over the audio .... definitely awesome and intense
EAST.....EAST.....EAST...….NUFF SAID!!!!!!!
Love that trumpet solo. Goosebumps
That's a piston rotor soprano G bugle.
I was there that night as well and it was one of the greatest moments in DC history. The crowed went absolutely wild at the end of the Jeff Klevit solo.
I was there as well. Blew me away.
I wish I could time warp modern drum corps fans back to 1974 or 1975, sit them on the 50 yard line, and watch their reaction to the volume of the brass lines.
Great piece right here! Raw Drum Corps at its best! The sopranos are killing those octaves on Malagueña!

that night in person was ELECTRIC!
Same here... I was 24, I'm 74! Unforgettable! From Jonquière Québec!
The only hornline that comes close to this sound would be the Kingsmen 1967 Bronx, NYC
Awesome!
Ah the memories!

The true sound of Drum & Bugle Corps. - the field should always have been "an Electricity Free Zone" !
The 'Thumbs Down' was PROBABLY from a 'west coaster'! "EAST, EAST, EAST, EAST!!!!!"
ayy any coast muchachos is out of this world!
Well, here's a West Coaster that loves The Muchachos. I also wore out the vinyl record, back in the day. I love my Blue Devils, but who couldn't love The Muchachos?
It was that guy from the Cavaliers! Remember Hawthorn, baby!

excellent sounding ensemble - very best sounding corps in 71 - Tops
Jeff Kievit!! Valve rotary! No mikes! Need I say more!
AMEN.
And he was marking time - at MIDFIELD!!
Asking now this is drum corps. No mics!
I would like the individual who gave this a thumbs down to tell the rest of us why they did so, Hawthorne ruled !
Better version of malaguena than the popular 88 madison scouts one
I had forgotten The Muchachos did "Malaguena" before Madison. LOVED the Muchachos, but I still think Madison did it best.

I like muchachoes version
@@PrairieBoy99 though many disagree with me i prefer madison’s malagueña 1996 version
