The last time I spent money on this game was on the original Smolensk offering, which was one of those roulette set ups where you spend gold for a spin, and each time you win something, the prize pool reduces and the gold cost increases. Now you'd think that each spin you'd have a chance to get the Smolensk, but actually no. The Smolensk was the last prize. You had to win everything else first. That final spin was going to cost me about $300, which I didn't have. So no Smolensk for me, a pile of money spent on minor shit, and in my case, a vow to never spend another cent on a WG game. So I heartly endorse this video Terry. I just got my Yamato and in another month or two I'll have gathered enough gold crumbs to get the camo. Cheers to free gaming!
I've been testing loot crate drop rates a while back on press - simply opened enough to have a decent sampling rate, and it turned out to be what the description said. But there are definitely some shenanigans afoot, now with multi-item crates like the legendary commanders, where there might be a two-draw system hidden in it (not confirmed, just coincidental evidence)
I don’t mind, and can afford to spend money on this game. I’m retired, and this is a very fun and challenging diversion for me. However, the crazy odds on the latest crates require way to much, and a suspension of rational thinking. Premium ships don’t win battles, skills, teammates and luck do. The reason I enjoy premium ships is that they allow me to use my legendary commanders, and their skills, that I worked so hard to grind out. Thanks Terry for all the work you put into this channel!
I'm doing this with von Hipper, he's trained on GK, but will sail Prinz Eitel Friedrich, Scharnhorst, Odin or Tirpitz as well. It does help with the grind for the top levels.
When the game first came out the odds/percentages were much higher I believe. I use silver now to open up the light crate bundle which unlocks premium/damage kits. I have not spent any real money on the game for quite awhile now and will not anymore.
Same, I've spent quite a bit on premium bundles earlier, but now I'm just enjoying it. I'm using premium kits only in T10, and I've got so many of them piled up, haven't had a need to restock yet
Agree, it is not about money or the ship. It is all about your teammates, how you help the team, capture the dang caps, and if WG is good to you, you get a relatively "friendlier" matchup.
I've got several Tier 10 ships - GK, Minotaur, Shimakaze, Daring - and I've gotten 100+K in lots of battles with each of them, and almost always get Big Caliber in battles with them (unless I make a stupid mistake and get torpedoed). I agree the grind can be annoying, but if you know which ships you want, you can focus your efforts on certain lines, and partially skip the crappy ships by building up ship XP/free XP by watching a video after battles (3X per day) and using the XP boosters.
Completely agree you don't need to spend money to get better at the game I've been playing this game for years now I have a lot of free tier X that perform WAY better than those premiums... I may don't have fancy camos but I have skill 😎
When I'm out in T10, it's GK, Mino, DM, Hindi or Yama. I've got a few lower tiers with historical camo that I love playing, like Aki, Hsien Yang or Nürnberg. I used to buy premiums for their uniqueness, ships like Richie or Odin, Mogami, ... but I probably play tech tree as much, if not more than, premium
I am a whale if am honest. But these insane moneygrabs I will never support. A bundle like Marceu's was awesome, being able to buy it outright! Sure it's expensive, but that fair. 0.08% chance with so many other ships in the pool is just outrageous. Great video Terry
I've spent more than I probably should have, but mostly on bundles on sale. If I open a crate, I set a limit beforehand, e.g. 3 commander crates, or a single 1+1 crate, and I quit after that. Just with any other type of gambling, limits and an understanding of the psychological pressure patterns employed help against impulsive/emotional spending.
@@FunandGameswithTerry the Sonar sweep used to be a very easy thing to monitor your spending on while getting some 'cheap' goodies as long as you kept it under 6 spins. I pulled the black Admiral Hipper on the first attempt once so good things do happen, but they recently changed this, making the first spins seemingly cheaper and maintaining their cost until it suddenly doubles, that plays into the sunken cost fallacy and is much harder to regulate your own behavior than before.
I got the Incomparable from the 1+1 crate, and I enjoy it a lot, and I am also not a person to put a lot of gold into gambling crates. I wanna save up my gold. Things such as the Sonar Sweeps and the percentages of getting ships in a crate instead of making me want to spend more gold makes me wanna save up and makes me regret wasting gold on one crate. When I started playing and saw Premium ships on the enemy team, I thought the enemy team would win, or if my team had a Premium I assumed we would win. But it took me a while to understand that skill is needed to successfully play both Premiums and tech tree ships. After a long grind in both the American and German lines, I finally got the Monty and GK, which is far more satisfying than getting the Incomparable on the first try.
Incomparable is one ship I might be tempted to pay money for still... But I've got enough ships in port tbh. Premium ships don't determine outcomes. Yes, there are some pretty strong premiums out there, but then there are some pretty strong tech tree ships out there. I see premiums more as a way to skip grinds, which is in itself not a good thing, since you'll need the necessary skills to play at higher tiers, and those are not for sale 😁 As such, premiums can also be indicative of "wallet warriors" sometimes. When I'm looking at the opening team list, I'm looking at ships, maybe fleet / players I might know to be dangerous, divisions, and prioritise accordingly. The rest just comes out of the battle. I've seen games go either way.

That's a good way to put it, and Premiums do tend to attract more fire. Agreed, you can't buy skill. I've seen players play certain ships wrong that are high tier premiums, and I guess they said I shall skip these tiers and go straight to Tier VIII. It goes as you might expect. If you wanna purchase high tier Premium ships, grind through the tiers, it'll give you experience and the skills.
You don't have to spend gold for ship slots. As long as all the slots are full, when you receive a free ship from grinding the daily missions, the free ships will give you the slot.
The main reason I like premium ships is I can move my fully specked captains around. I play many games with less experienced members in my fleet and have to switch between tiers. If you do that a lot you use up your Xp very quickly.
As well I tend to have a favourite, BB, DD, AC and cruiser in each tier all set up and ready to go for the weekly, daily and fleet challenges. They may be premium, black or regular ships. The main objective is to promote good team play and have a good laugh in chat!!
I generally have one captain that I move along a line when I'm grinding it. If there's a ship I want to keep, I get a captain for it, but otherwise, I only ever retrain during the grind. I usually have some ships for most tiers that are either premium/black or have a trained captain.
That reload though... What I enjoy about Yama is that she's quite comfortable sniping for the first half (her dispersion isn't actually that great), but also fully capable of going in and getting her hands dirty in the later stages.
I bought the Atlantico blitz pass because you get so much value for your money. Most blitz passes I don't buy. Since Atlantico is so overpowered maybe you could do a video on how a FTP player could counter the Atlantico.

However since 2 years I couldn’t get myself to play this game again. Idk if it would have been the same if I spend real money on it….. It's true, F2P is perfectly viable, a premium is only really deadly when captained by a skilled commander (although in the cases of smolensk, friesland or now the likes of Atlantico this can be frustrating) and all ships sink. It does take a strong mind however to resist the very aggressive marketing Blitz does towards it's own players, encouraging to buy or gamble and hyping up paid ships that aren't even that good. I have spend a larger sum than I am willing to count over the 4 years of playing, probably in the hundreds of euros and I will be the first to admit their pricing is absolutely ridiculously high, but I spend this money knowing that I play daily and competitively in a fleet so the money isn't wasted, it's invested into my experience and it's good for thousands of hours of game time.
I don't play competitive, don't have the time to hone my skills beyond doing good in a random. I've spent a fair amount over the years, mostly because there were ships I was interested in. Not anymore, because I've got more than I can reasonably play. Yes, the hype is real, but more and more I feel that new ships don't offer much that I haven't seen already in one form or another.
I did the thing you mentioned once and took ONE crate. The special 1+1 for the Austin…. And got it. 😂. They, definitely trying to get me to spend more money while feeling lucky but I’ll take my squishy T10 and run from the gambling table.
I don't spend a lot... Usually I'll have premium account on, and might do a blitz pass if it's something interesting, like I just did with Atlantico. But the gambling??? Not so much. I got the Smolensk when it first was released. Paid a lot but think I got it with one or two spins to go so still lucky. Won't do that again!! One thing I do when in F2P mode is buy the light crate with silver...you'll get Premium repair kits out of it. And often I run out of boosters, so it'll replentish the cheaper ones of those as well...

I could see where all these voices of riot come from the community recently. Personally I’ve spent over 4000 dollars on this game during the past 3 years. I invest my money on this game not because I’m a rich and stupid guy but because I enjoy it, especially the uniqueness (not the privilege) of some premium ships. However, since April 2022, I found out WG had became more money hungering than ever. Nowadays you could find more than 7 bundles and 3 crates in the store, in 2021 however, no more than 3 bundles and 1 crate could be found. According to my 8-year-experience of mobile gaming, this is the sign of downfall of a game. If WG ever listen to the community, then the following issues should have long been fixed: 1. The unfair RNG 2. The bot problems 3. Bundles should replace 90% of the crate openings Why am I not mentioning the ship balancing? Not because WG has done it right, it’s because it’s nothing compared to the 3 issues I have mentioned above! To be specific: EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE 3 COULD EASILY KILL A GAME! So this game is lucky, but these good luck would quickly dissipate if WG continues to ignore the voice of our community!
I don't think I've spent quite as much, but certainly in the four digits over the years. I see it more like a subscription fee, and yes, I'm in for the "unique" premiums, although I feel that at this point, they're pretty much more and more randomised rehashes of existing attributes. At this point, I'm pretty much ignoring the premium deluge, and just enjoy the ships I have, as well as the tech tree lines I'm grinding. Honestly, that's a sane option.

That's actually a good point, if you're lucky, you can get a premium cheaper from a crate than from a bundle. The problem here is the same with all gambling - it gives those with little money an idea that they can get something they otherwise wouldn't be able to obtain. The problem is, most of the time, they will still lose money and not get the ship (jackpot), or end up paying way more than reasonable (sunk cost fallacy). How do we fix this? Better chances in crates, guaranteed / capped crates, lower bundle prices. Now, would I recommend spending money to get a T10 premium to someone who won't go through the grind? Maybe not, because they might not enjoy it. But I don't see anything wrong playing mid-tier, for someone who's a much more casual player, and doesn't want to invest the time figuring out the intricacies of the game, that's probably a more fun experience.
First of all u did not have strong premium ship opponents … in the second game almost all where T9 …. As it stands for now this game is P2W . Not like Fortnite for example where u can buy cosmetics only . In WOWS Blitz most premiums are clearly better then the tech tree . Of course if u are a skilled player u can make “everything” work but still u will be significantly better in the premium ship . Just look at atlantico . I have a 95% win rate in that ship with 90k average damage after 112 games. … Sad truth is u pay money u have more fun in this game .
Slava just isn't worth it too much gambling if it is in a bundle I rather buy the Kaga because Slava has very weak armor even an Izumo can get 3 citadels in 1 salvo. Yamato is great took me a 1 year to get but that makes her fun because I put effort in to her.

I prefer to buy historical camos over premiums for most part. The only 2 ships I bought outright was Blyskawica and Smolensk.

However, since April 2022, I found out WG had became more money hungering than ever. Nowadays you could find more than 7 bundles and 3 crates in the store, in 2021 however, no more than 3 bundles and 1 crate could be found. According to my 8-year-experience of mobile gaming, this is the sign of downfall of a game.
If WG ever listen to the community, then the following issues should have long been fixed:
1. The unfair RNG
2. The bot problems
3. Bundles should replace 90% of the crate openings
Why am I not mentioning the ship balancing? Not because WG has done it right, it’s because it’s nothing compared to the 3 issues I have mentioned above!
To be specific: EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE 3 COULD EASILY KILL A GAME! So this game is lucky, but these good luck would quickly dissipate if WG continues to ignore the voice of our community!
I don't think I've spent quite as much, but certainly in the four digits over the years. I see it more like a subscription fee, and yes, I'm in for the "unique" premiums, although I feel that at this point, they're pretty much more and more randomised rehashes of existing attributes.
At this point, I'm pretty much ignoring the premium deluge, and just enjoy the ships I have, as well as the tech tree lines I'm grinding. Honestly, that's a sane option.

But yeah, there are plenty of free camos around that give extra silver & XP, and are generally quite useful.

I think they should have bundles of new products along with the crates. you will always have people that will always try the crates to try and avoid paying a set price.cause the luck of the draw and getting it possibly for less is what people do even if the chance is low to wind.a set price leaves no room to negotiate or chance to get it cheap it is what it is .PC and Console alot of times have the gamble crate along with a bundle.And judging from the videos and people I talked to alotta people still hit the crates for a chance at cheaper buys ,even the dock yard event have the bundle to unlock the ship or many of levels for it,cause the dock yard events and challenges are not superhard at times.but some people just don't have the time or the skills to grinded it in time or every get good enough to unlock stuff.i wouldnt mind the crates if thew where a little more fair.i know its a bussisness,but there is crate chances that are completely wrong and are purely set up against,some u have achance,some are just hopeless.I love grinding,but most people don't have the time to grind a tier and get some ships that we know they we all wanted.the fanbase has those who just love the grind and don't mind working at it and those who whale and like just having different stuff to play and don't care for the price and those who start strong and enjoy the game,but leave cause they feel like there getting nowhere fast enough cause the grind can take time.Great video terry always a good and interesting and informative video thank you.
That's actually a good point, if you're lucky, you can get a premium cheaper from a crate than from a bundle. The problem here is the same with all gambling - it gives those with little money an idea that they can get something they otherwise wouldn't be able to obtain. The problem is, most of the time, they will still lose money and not get the ship (jackpot), or end up paying way more than reasonable (sunk cost fallacy).
How do we fix this? Better chances in crates, guaranteed / capped crates, lower bundle prices.
Now, would I recommend spending money to get a T10 premium to someone who won't go through the grind? Maybe not, because they might not enjoy it. But I don't see anything wrong playing mid-tier, for someone who's a much more casual player, and doesn't want to invest the time figuring out the intricacies of the game, that's probably a more fun experience.

First of all u did not have strong premium ship opponents … in the second game almost all where T9 ….
As it stands for now this game is P2W . Not like Fortnite for example where u can buy cosmetics only . In WOWS Blitz most premiums are clearly better then the tech tree . Of course if u are a skilled player u can make “everything” work but still u will be significantly better in the premium ship . Just look at atlantico . I have a 95% win rate in that ship with 90k average damage after 112 games. … Sad truth is u pay money u have more fun in this game .
Slava just isn't worth it too much gambling if it is in a bundle I rather buy the Kaga because Slava has very weak armor even an Izumo can get 3 citadels in 1 salvo.
Yamato is great took me a 1 year to get but that makes her fun because I put effort in to her.
Same thing here, premiums can be fun, but feeling the reward of earning a ship after a grind is pretty good in itself
