I can confidently say a year or so after this review that Rico is by far one of my favorite ships to use. I have her gun rating at over 8k and to me they hit well at long ranges and hit extremely hard to the point I rival battleships. Granted I have a special camo for her that does everything the historical does except for increasing the anti air by 200 ish. Reliably brawl enemy cruisers ex: a Neptune backed by another t10 cruiser (can't remember the name) and a destroyer, killing both cruisers and kitting the destroyer at ranges of 13-14km
Reliably punishing battleships especially isolated ones.
In all I personally believe she's scarier than a smolensk but since I never see her unless I sail it there isn't much to worry about. Rico and Buffalo are definitely my go to ships for a little trolling and some fun.

I'm still new to the game and was lucky(ish) to get this from a crate, my first tier 10 ship. The first thing I noticed was how quickly it burned! It could actually be made from wood 🔥🔥🔥

PR is like a mini Montana, it can hit hard, but long range can be a bit questionable, it "can" tank but not for long.
But with the ship skills the Montana would enjoy to have, especially the DFAA.

Yea, it’s dumbed down beyond comprehension, it should be way better than it is but wargaming made it a joke. I loaded it up with full AA defense with an elite commander just for AA and “it’s still a joke for AA”.
Do you record the legendary commander Dewy for the Puerto Rico.
I totally agree with the ya on these types of ships in epicenter. I just got the Yoshino, every other battle seems like it and it’s just a huge target for everyone lol. And I get it someone might have the niche for playing it. Not me I’ll just target them in my yammy 😂.
I'm trying to complete the honour missions in Roon, and every other battle I get is epicentre, where Roon is rather less useful.
We do have the letter designation “BC” versus “BB” which was used for all Battleships after the revolution caused in 1906 by the launching of HMS Dreadnought. All pre-dreadnought ships had the letter “B”. The British used this designation and by example we called the Russian Kirov class BCGNs (Guided missile battle cruiser). Just to be weird, we used the designation CB-1 and CB-2 for the Alaska’s. The distinction between a Battleship and Battlecruiser (per Admiral Jackie Fisher-father of the concept) was that a battleship is designed with armor designed to withstand shells of at least the same caliber it fires. Battlecruisers deliberately trade speed for armor.
I generally go by "battlecruisers have enough armour to withstand targets they can fight, and enough speed to outrun those they can't", but I have no idea where I read that definition.
As for the "same shell calibre armour", wasn't that dropped somewhere around the South Dakotas, or do I confuse that?
@@FunandGameswithTerry No, that is true. SD/NC/IOWAs or the “fast battleships” restarted in the 30s had to be fast enough to escort carriers, so the game up some armor protection to get that but still generally a planning factor.
@@FunandGameswithTerryC was only armored for 356mm, the original planned armament. The Iowas were only armored for standard 406mm not the Mk. 8 SHBCAP(Super Heavy) shell. The Montanas would have been armored for the Mk. 8. The Mk. 8 was designed after the Iowa so technically Iowa isn’t armored for its shell, SD also wasn’t armored for it shell after it came out, originally it fired the Mk 5 or 6 AP rd which the SD was armored for.
The battlecruiser hull designation is CC not BC. All Cruisers start with C. CA, CB, CC, CC, CG, CGN, CL, CLAA, CL-DD, CS, CV.
CC was also used a second time for Command Cruiser. That’s just a few of the cruiser designations the US had that I can remember off hand. CV stands for Cruiser Voler since the original CV’s were built from cruiser hulls.
You think Puerto Rico's 268 meter is long? Try the German Battlecruiser design KW45 at 296 meters.
KW45 is like a Bismarck with cruiser armor and 37 knots top speed.
I know KW45 will appear in the game as a Tier 10 German cruiser.
This ship must have gotten a severe buff since this video came out. I find it doesn’t burn that bad and generally gets full pens even when I use a lower level commander on it. I do have a Vermont commander I use fairly often with APCS, but I also use my Des Moines commander who doesn’t have master reloader yet and still reliably full pen.
Can't quite remember if she was buffed, but I'll probably need to re-test. Especially penetration changes / premium changes can often be omitted in the patch notes (I think that's what happened to Roma)
@@FunandGameswithTerry did you ever get around to retesting this ship? 2 years later and a possible silent buff. Been staring at it, but not sure if it's worth the 80x steel. Don't see many of them in games to judge, but some players seem to swear by its effectiveness.
PR is a pretty weak back then with her accuracy, but idk when it got buffed n she got some nice accuracy since then. This ship is an absolute huge target for anything at any range when it's broadside-ing. You got to play it somewhat like a typical US CA, bow in but not totally bow in, u got to let the rear guns fire too. It has amazing rear turret angles so u can do it without much risk, but u hv to make sure u bow n the guy u r shooting at's bow is not facing the same direction, otherwise u will give broadsides without knowing, only show the slightest broadside when u fire the rear guns, keep the reloading bar grey when u r reloading. If the enemy is camping, u camp, If he's pushing, u reverse, unless it's a cruiser or sth pretty weak(Smolensk, DD etc). I once 1v1 n killed a yamato at

Terry I just got the Leviathan Camo for Hms Indomitable from crate key. Should I wait for the Indomitable bundle? I don’t want to gamble crate for it.
Don't gamble. I wasted a year of f2p gold trying to get one of the ships and I regret it. And you’ll be wasting real money.

I have no idea tbh if / when the shipyard rotates, I tend not to pay too much attention to that. The last rotation was on 6.0, they usually seem to come out every 3 updates, so 6.2 (May) probably won't change things yet, but can't say for sure. Also, that review is a little dated. I'll put a revisit on the list.
Hmm, glad I avoided it then. The guns seemed a bit underwhelming for what is really a battle cruiser, particularly compared to the German battle cruisers (leaving aside the inconsistency of classifying ships like the Gneisenau/Scharnhorst and the Odin as battleships and the Siegfried/Ägir and Graf Spee as cruisers when they they’re all effectively battle cruisers).
I already knew I did not want the PR even before they released it.
She looks like the Montana and Iowa mixed, and maybe with a bit of the North Carolina
If she had better accuracy, she would be horrifying to play against in a cruiser
It's not that terrible, unless you fire beyond 10km. I could totally live with the accuracy if she had any way to bring the guns to bear without being two-shot by BBs.
I guess it's the historical stats - almost the size of an Iowa, but relatively little armour. She was meant to be set against enemy heavy cruisers, but in the end they realised they could have just gotten some more Baltimore class CAs for a fraction of the cost.
Ship’s good enough, it’s the pay to rico after all.

Good day Terry! I'm looking for a good t9 BB which one would you recommend like musashi or Missouri!?
Hmm, T9 is generally considered a difficult one to play. You'll end up against tier 10 quite often, where the big calibre jumps happen. So far, from the T9 BBs I've tested, I probably liked Iowa best, but I haven't tried all of them.
In the end, it comes down much more to your playstyle. Do you prefer manoeuvres, map control, or more static long range engagements. Then find a ship that fits how you like to play best.
Well I meant from the premium BB of tier9 - I'm divided between Musashi and Missouri- which one should i get from these two?
I've done reviews of both, I think. Musashi was definitely a back-row sniper, as you'd expect from an IJN BB, whereas Missouri had a bit more flexibility. But both aren't brawlers. I can't remember the exact difference between Missouri and Iowa, but I quite like Iowa for the way I play (more mobile).

Puerto Rico aka Dumpster Fire
She effectively relies on the enemy team to potato to be successful. If you can get into a position where you're not being fired at, and can just unload at a range of about 10km, or if you catch cruisers off-guard, she works well. But you can't push or cap, so no DD air cover, kiting is ok-ish, meaning you basically have to position behind the BB line. And in that case, why would you not sail out in an Iowa or Monty to begin with.
See it positively, she's historically accurate in that regard ;)

Ah yes, pay to rico, another ship other than smolensk that can handle BBs with ease and easily erase DDs and light cruisers, balanced enough.

Meh😑... WG needs to learn to bait their Crate Scams with something REALLY tempting, not mediocre ships with no purpose or anything it's really good at...
at the end of the day, it's my opinion - there might be people who really enjoy this ship, and that's ok :) A lot of what I say is based on random games, there are ships that work well in those, and there are others that can really only shine in purpose-built divisions.
Although I'd have to think hard about a good division setup for this one :) As usual with the super cruisers, I wonder why not just either take a BB if you want to tank, or a CA if you want dpm, instead of something in between that's neither of them, and is really just good at one thing - taking on enemy cruisers, which are few and far in between in the current meta to begin with.
