    My preference is the first or the "classic" angle. I like to see the close up from the side and the details of the saw marks in the wood. Love the videos. Very relaxing. 👍🏻

    I like what you did with the new camera placement. It is a great angle to view you and the saw and carriage through the full cut! You do have a creative aspect to your work.

    I just love any milling videos that are milling! (And not constant chatter or music) Why I keep coming back.
    BTW, your new neighbors are folks I've been a customer of for a while. Didn't realize you were both in the same town until they showed the new fab shop they bought and pointed out your mill in the video! Been buying MV parts off of Scott for a decade.

    I really enjoy your videos. The new camera placement is interesting.
    I do have a question, what is the reason for the very large cants cut at the end of each log rather than boards? What are they used for?

    • @marcchatterson-xq7qt
      @marcchatterson-xq7qt 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They go to a pallet mill and a ripped into smaller boards called stringers to make pallets or skids

  • @leroyc179
    @leroyc179 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    There are pro's and con's to either view, the normal one the camera is on a more even plain with the log thus giving a much better view of the grain of the wood and being higher up gives a better view of the edging saw and you but pretty much wash's out the log.

    • @Helmsburgsawmill
      @Helmsburgsawmill  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      My thoughts!! You can’t appreciate the logs as well. But I feel it gives a better view of what’s operating down in front of me

    What causes the dark staining in the heartwood of the first log? Does it affect the grade of the piece ?

    • @Helmsburgsawmill
      @Helmsburgsawmill  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      These logs have just sat a while and have started to stain because of the heat outside. And they don’t care for it, however they just dye it. It shouldn’t affect this grade. The stain wasn’t that bad

    • @Helmsburgsawmill
      @Helmsburgsawmill  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Or maybe we’re talking about something different. There was a gray hue of color on the ends of the logs. That’s the stain I’m referring to. If you’re speaking about the blue color, that just appears in poplar all the time!

    What do you do with the sawdust and how you clean the machine? And how's the bark, throw them away?

  • @marcchatterson-xq7qt
    @marcchatterson-xq7qt 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    What is your split to get 3 cants. I can be anywhere between 11 3/8 and 11 1/4 but our cants go right into a gangsaw so as long as they aren’t more than 3 3/4 Plaining down to 3 1/2 is no problem But 3 5/8 is perfect …the last one on the bunks is sometimes a little heavy

    • @Helmsburgsawmill
      @Helmsburgsawmill  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      11 1/4 is my block for 3 cants!

      @@Helmsburgsawmill I saw more cants than lumber cuz I’m
      At a pallet mill so with the vertical edger sometimes I’ll take one off the side of a log Big poplar or cottonwood some logs I can get 8 or 9 cants out of one log so our over run is always crazy which works out awesome for the mill. Great sawing man keep it up

    I like the new camera angle , However I would like to see a bit more to the right and a bit back so we can see the log being turned and see the aiming lasers better . 🥰I also like the original angle so some of both is good too 😃

    Like the mill videos, and I like your cabin project too! Just a note, uncross your arms when talking to the camera. It looks unnatural and gives the impression that you are uncomfortable.

    I find it very boring to just watch the saw cutting. Didn’t learn anything about your technique, didn’t get to see much of the quality of the wood which is what I find the best part. It’s now like opening up a Christmas present and finding nothing inside with this new angle.

    • @drraandini3410
      @drraandini3410 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you want to see a technique, maybe you can look at cutting wood using a chainsaw. 😊
