Great video but it makes me wish you had a video on how to create the weird effects (I assume with a Floyd Rose and whammy?)
Haha, it’s just a Floyd flick. If your post gets 10 likes I’m down to do a vid on it.
@@MendelianDo us the video, bro! 😂🤘
@@Mendelian 20 likes baby let's go I wanna see that left hand go apeshit.
Legit I'd love to see a rundown on many floyd stuff and whammy FX.
Well flutter whammy video it is!
I tried it and bought it a few minutes after testing. It's definitely more of a "feel" kind of thing. Even though there's a noticeable high-end boost, other frequencies in the spectrum also enhance. I use GGD's IRs. Even though they sound great on their own, adding this gives it that extra 5%. I leave it at default and calibrate it. Thankfully I'm in the middle of mixing my band's album, so it's gonna get added on to all of the bass and guitar tracks.
This plugin is a perfect example of the placebo effect and the fact that guitarists will buy into anything as long as there is a moderate level of hype behind it.
I checked the delta in Reaper and it definitely does something, like a fuzzy quality + harmonics but it is VERY subtle. I stacked multiple instances to hear better what it does. I don't think I need it at the moment. I'm not at a point where this makes or breaks the tone i got going, probably never will. Maybe I'll change my mind in the future though.
@@lenni-hazels would save the money for a Fractal FM3, so you'll never need this ;-)
I already wrote it on resingtons video, but this plugin is pretty underwhelming. When doing objective tests, meaning compensating for loudness (around 1.2 - 2dB, which can shift tonal perception big time), EQ matching, you will find that the plugin basically raises 150 Hz by ~0,5 dB, smacks in a narrow-Q 6-7.5 kHz up to 2.5 dB and then steeply notches down 12 kHz around the same (narrow Q, -2.5dB).
If you null-test a rendered file with IRDX against the a rendered file with Loudness compensation and EQ match, there is no variance in the null-testing - it's always the same "amount of phase cancellation". What does this mean? That this plugin in itself acts very static and predictable, pretty much like an EQ, and not "super dynamic" and what else the marketing buzzwords are.
It does make a difference, but its just like a well-placed, small EQ curve. 40$ for that is ridiculous. But, and that's where I grant Bogren a buy-out - it was the customer base that wanted this plugin so badly.
Agreed. For me it just sounds like nothing that Saturation or even a Tapesim can't do too.
People call me crazy when i said IR always sounds static to me, now bogren release the IRDX and finally sounds right to me 😅
Thats why i like STL Tonehub mark lewis after all these years 😝
@ihateyourguts actually you are right, they have this since the first one knob amp.
This was always the problem with IR's, they sound very static, not really how a cab/mic set up works. You need that air movement, the cab speaker reacting to what you play into it, the microphone picking it up. This is a pretty cool solution, but there's an easy one you can do for free. Play your guitar parts out of your studio monitors and record that output with a mic. If you remove all the bass and low mids frequencies (which will cause mad phasing issues) and mix your original sound with the studio monitor recording it gives it the life it needs. Try it out!
02:27 haha love that crazy floyd rose trick in that riff :)
Reminds me of something Terrence Hobbs would do in Suffocation :)
Hello Mendel! I can see that you use your interface and quad cortex at the same time. Could you explain how is it possible? I want to avoid unnecessary analog-digital conversion.
They also have the IRDX technology on their One Knob series plugins, it's stated on the plugin page. \m/
Hello! This is an off-topic question, but I really need an answer) Please tell me, is the size of the Wacom Intuos Pro M enough for you or is it better to take a tablet with a larger work area?
That section you were using to demo is insane man!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Holly shit, that sound really good. Gotta try it
Wow It really adds some movements on the guitar track
Please make this capture available on tone hunt! It sounds sick! I tried the 1 you put up with the road king ll into the 5150 and it’s just too overwhelming in the low end. Any tips on making it more useable?
I hear a few things for sure. First of all a slight perceived volume boost, high end boost, more bloom in the low mids/lows and more stereo spread. Not necesarily it being wider, but I hear more differences between the right and left channels, making it appear wider. Might have to pick this up!
Is there a difference if you put it on each individual track insert as opposed to on the guitar bus?
Dude.. im feeling it! Gotta try this out asap.. it feels like added oomph and air but not with EQ moves.
For Me its something like Exciter (in top end) + Stereo Widener in One plugin :D
There’s definitely a subtle difference. Also works with bass and virtual bass into bass IR.
It's okay, not a game changer in the mix. I do own the plugin and will use it BTW.
I'd be interested to see how it reacts to a test tone and see how it affects a spectrum.... its not some kind of eq bump or a doubler type of thing?
Might want to go visit Raytown Productions...
Freakng sick track BRO
hey! :) would you mind sharing that IR? thx for the video!
Any chance to get your neural amp modeler preset 🥶?
Yes, will get released this year prob Q1
it honestly seems like what a Sonic Max would do in a guitar chain live. Sonic time alignment. or they are both just indescribable
Cool tunes bro 🤙
Hi Mendel, quick question. On the mix you done that had the IRDX that was chosen by the band, did you put IRDX on each individual guitar track or did you put it on the guitar bus?
Guitar bus
Kazrog had recabinet 5 with dynamic speaker modeling. Isn't this exactly the same?
On my laptop speakers I already hear a clear difference, on the isolated track atleast. It seems to add presence in a very pleasant way aswell as some extra gain.
I'd call it fuzz and harmonics, but yes. Not really groundbreaking imo but could potentially be useful for that extra touch.
Each step of EQing that one does is probably a bigger impact on sound though.
The notes feel more forward, there's definitely more analog feeling width and warmth from the saturation non-linearity. It reminds me of throwing tape on stuff, but it doesn't exactly have the same character, different but similar benefits.
You can crank this for that old school cranked amp compression. Could never get that special vibe without a real cab before. Other forms of compression ultimately was just different.
The amp sim should compress. Maybe this compresses more when driven hard, but guitar speakers are all different in that respect.
Is this like the BBE modern maximizer.?? We use on the effects return of the amp but this version is for IR
Slight eQ tweak
SAT
bit of expander
Nice, idd wat meer diepte-beweging cq natuurlijker oid, idd net wat je mist bij IR's/amps uit plugins.
En die riff haha, briljant, lekker flutteren \m/
I'll get this when it goes for 50% off on Black Friday. Its a great plugin, but 39 Euros is a bit too much for a subtle effect.
I Imagine EQ shaping canbgetnyounthe same resuly when paired with your IR.
I did notice a big difference. Its almost like its an exciter for IRs.
Do they use iLok for their plugins?
No
@@Mendelian Oh... That's very good.
I've been thinking of getting a couple of their plugins for a while but as a non-guitarist I could never make my mind up. There was always a new Toontrack stuff that was getting in a way. 😆
Alive vs dead. Love it!
i love
I think what I’m noticing is the extremely tight low end , and that’s always been a problem using sims like tse x50ii . W we may not be able to accurately describe it but we just know
In actuality, it adds low or subharmonics...
And after some time all is quiet about this '' placebo '' IR.
Will it work on a bass cab???
Yes. I emailed Bogren about this. I use a virtual bass, and put it after Ndsp parallax. Bogren replied saying I may need to tweak the distortion in parallax but yes it works!
it just sounds like it's adding a small amount of high frequencies, or like presence and "air".... not such a drastic change
Song\Band?
Mendel - Shores (but this remix is in the works)
do you load your ir into this
No, this goes behind the amp/cab IR
so you put it after your ir loader
@@Poepopdestoep
Snake Oil. Run it inside plugin doctor and you'll see exactly what it's doing. Save your money.
seems to sound a little more 3D
Honestly it's way too subtle. I can hardly hear it.
When you cranked the settings it kinda sounded like it's adding some stereo variations. kinda similar to the ozone imager plugin.
Am I wrong?
Are you listening on quality speaker monitors or cans? It's not that subtle to me listening on mere Yamaha HS7's.
I have a pair of presonus E5. It was hardly noticeable.
on headphones outside of the mix I can hear a slight difference.
@@kutnersuicide
40 Euros just for this?? There is another IR loader with so many more features called Cabinetron which also has a non-linearity emulation. I think it costs 80 Euros. Definitely recommend that one instead.
It kinda just sounds like saturation to me?
Sounds exactly like a parrallel MS dynamic eq just shelving the high end in the sides.
Glorified EQ.
OK, to the company, the plugin doesn't actually need an animated speaker. That's silly. Save us some screen space. (or can you hide it:?) To people using this, don't look at that speaker when trying this plugin. It may trick your mind. I'll check this out further on some clean examples, blind test.
There's some differences, but not 30 bucks worthy of differences.
lol all snake oil
