    Husqvarna Svartpilen & Vitpilen 250 Review Test
    You might have not known this, but Husqvarna and KTM are part of one big industrious family. The Vitpilen 250 and Svartpilen 250 which we have ridden are based on the KTM 250 Duke’s mechanicals, a motorcycle that we are all very familiar with. But, the Swedes attitude is focused on style, leisure and premiumness. Can this frankensteining of hardware and soul create a Husky that can befriend the hard-nosed and spoilt-for-choice Indian biker?
    The Husqvarna Svartpilen has been inspired by a legendary motocrosser, the Silverpilen, and thus has a bit of a rugged air about it. The braced bars, on-off road tyres and the distinctive styling make it an appealing scrambler. Its sibling, the Vitpilen, is a minimalist cafe racer. Both these motorcycles share their hardware, but cast very different auras. Which one of these appeals to you? And which is the one you should look out for?

    I test rode svartpilen. I am 5.4 inches in height and I'm able to easily put 2/3 of my foot on the ground on a good road. I assume its because of the very thin & tapering seat and that the bike kinda makes u want to sit as close to the tank as possible because of the way the seat is designed. This allows decent room for the pillion at the back. And if one can manage to put up a backrest, the pillion will feel perfectly fine.
    This bike has a THAR-like road presence. It takes a few minutes for anyone to fully complete admiring the bike from front to sides to the back by when you would have already passed by their eyes. & You can keep admiring this bike even as a owner & never get tired of it. Esp those headlights!
    9.5 litre tank isn't an issue even on highways, not as much as people advertise it to be. You just need to ensure you have enough petrol stations on your route. I do touring on a TVS Ntorq which has a 6 litre tank with 1 litre always on reserve. So I understand. You can't easily take Svartpilen onto the northern terrains ( there is not enough space to keep jerry cans). But for long rides in central & southern India its absolutely fine. Even for a ride to mullyangiri peak (highest peak of Karnataka) its absolutely comfortable.
    Brakes & tires are 1st class. Gearbox is beautiful. I wish the wires were hidden a lil better. Availability of parts are a worry. Service is a worry, being a new brand.

    On point, almost. You did a justice with this review and as a Vitpilen owner here, I can vouch for your words. All in all, the Vitpilen as impractical it is, it is the well put together one. No it's not for touring, It's neither a comfortable commuter, but it's so much fun when you decide to swing legs over it. It handles superbly well and I beleive a swap for a stickier rubber will only make it better. The height is an issue, I'm 5'4 and it took a couple of weeks easily to get comfortable with it. The Swartpilen doesn't make sense to me. It makes for a very uncomfortable tourer with a really small saddle and a tiny tank which gives a usable 7 litres and a very low ground clearance meaning it's not made for an off-road terrain too. The off-road tyre makes for a worse road grip and that along with an upright stance translates into an uninspiring cornering experience. My money is on Vitpilen.

    I own the Vitpilen 250 and it definitely is an attention grabber. Every traffic light I stop, people keep staring at it and some even asks me which bike it is. Also it's a joy to ride. The power delivery is so smooth I never feel any jerk. The gear shifter is smooth as well. The suspension I suppose is the best in class. The seat is comfortable for the rider but uncomfortable for the pillion. I anyway use it for commuting to office so mostly I am riding alone so it's not an issue. Tyres have good grip. Headlight looks classy and the light has really good coverage. Overall very happy with my purchase and would happily suggest it.

    As an RC owner for over 3 years, the vitpilen isn't that similar to the rc apart from the triple clamp setup. The seat height, thigh support and tuck down feel is quite different. I felt the footpegs and shifter length etc were different too. Minor difference maybe, but immediately noticeable. On the RC, you gel well with the ergonomics for very aggressive riding. On the vitpilen, it seems like you are flying coz even when you tuck yourself in, nothing interrupts your view. And I really wonder if i should put stomp grips on those superbly sculpted fuel tank covers (no matter how well designed, you cannot grip fibre composite perfectly well unless you wear tight leathers all the time)

    Both of these bikes are stunning. I fall in love with vitpilen the second I laid my eyes on it. But the only disappointing thing about these bikes are their exhaust note. It is just underwhelming in my opinion. Same with their 401 and 701 versions. I mean Husqvarna could have at least improved the exhaust note of 701’s. And just a single cylinder engine on such a magnificent looking 701 bike ?! 🤨

    • @twistednemo
      @twistednemo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 690 single cylinder is the best part about that bike. That's what allows the bike to be so lightweight and punchy. Twin cylinder 600-800 cc bikes are a dime a dozen.

    I'll be honest, I am not a fan of Husqvarna, atleast not these and it purely based on the looks. Though they may have a higher seat height, they just look too small overall. The Svartpilen is definitely a missed opportunity at making a proper scrambler. Even Vitpilen as a cafe racer looks too short in length. May be riding them once may change my mind but for now, not a fan.

    You made it seem like these two have different engines or different tune. Its just the handle bars making the diffrence. And yeah, the tyres for some part, but it wouldnt make much diffrence for city rides under a speed of 60kmph. You dont need much grip to turn at low speeds of under 60kmph. So just change the handlebars on svartpilen and you are good to go. Anyways good review.

    @zigwheels kindly make a video of ktm duke 250 bs6 ground clearance issue and how to overcome it. Is it good to purchase such a bike thats getting hitted on every speedbumbs of Indian roads, wont it affect/worsen the machines in that underbelly.

  • @maheshy1
    @maheshy1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    IMO, 250 is the most un-KTM engine in their list. 200 is a screamer and 400 is too jumpy - for my taste.
    I like the Svart 250 a lot. With the ADV suspensions, wire wheels, Tubliss kit, nobody is gonna wanna borrow my wheels.
    Add Rekluse and you have an IMT for motorcycles - perfect for commuting.

    You say it's not good for long tour????
    I highly doubt that. I covered 900 Kms in 3 days with pillion n with 50 kgs luggage weight. Not a single problem faced.

      400 kms in single day... 6.6 hrs to be accurate.. With pillion... Total weight rider - 80kg...pillion-85 kg... Of 400kms.. 145kms were hills... Did the entire trip by filling the fuel twice... Twice full tank... Not a single complaint... Solid control... Nothing to complain... And sry I almost forgot to say... I own a svart.. Currently 14.25k kms on it... Enjoy it everyday

    Comparison With Duke250 ?

  • @AniketSen
    @AniketSen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    did not care about the lack of practicality....I was so inclined on buying the Svartpilen...but it has quality issues, mainly in the fit and finish and the overall built quality, the plastic panels have gap and a fair bit of play....there are squeaks here and there...and after riding the 250 Duke the quality issues were even more apparent...the Duke is built like a tank, stronger and thicker plastic panels, better tolerances and no suck squeaks....a metal tank, I feel it even has a stiffer frame although the construction might be the same...better quality mirrors and front fenders ...maybe that's what justifies it's 20K premium over the Husky...after multiple back and forth test rides and being a pain in the butt for the sales executive for the showroom here in kolkata....I settled for the Duke....

    Why all reviewers uploaded video at the same time, same day? PD, ZIG, Motoroid , Dino, Autocad etc .. every one uploaded video about Husqvarna on the same day. Is it a paid promotion?
