hi ben. I've had the A700WM-7A for about 2 - 3 years now. despite it easily being my cheapest watch it is the one I wear the most by far. in terms of digital watches I don't think you can beat it in terms of understated elegance while still keeping it practical and slightly retro
Great video only things id add the strap keeps catching my hairs and ripping them out lol also ive used it for washing dishes and got it decently wet with no problems
casio has explicit women's watches, but sometimes unisex watches are categorized as women's, i guess they don't have the unisex category. furthermore, this particular watch looks like a jewel. a feminine watch based on looks and size.
@@susrev88 I guess the Rolex Daytona's with pearl dials must be women's watches too then. And all the men wearing pearl dial watches must be secretly women.
@@StuntpilootStef feminine =/= explicitly women's. counter example is gshocks. women can pull them off, they're masculine watches but this doesn't make the women males. or the ltp-e148 that was also featured on this channel. sometimes marketed as ladies' watch, sometimes unisex, Ben wears it.i too almost bought it. still a feminine watch in my book. if it fits the person, then it's good.
I bought this after seeing your first review! I love it because it looks and feels much more "premium" than the other Casio's, while the iconic look is still there.
i got this watch recently- this is very aesthetically pleasing and feels nice on the wrist as well, but i fell if you have a big wrist then its better not to opt for this...but this watch really shines under the sunlight...it just looks incredible... 10/10
I just got this watch a couple of days ago after your glowing review and I have to admit, the A700 absolutely exceeded my expectations. It's so slim and the square vintage look coupled with the mesh band looks so refined and pleasing. Your video did it justice even though it looks even better in person. Thanks a lot!
The water resistance of this watch is underrated. I moved the module out of the case, then immersed it into a glass of water, pressed all the three keys under the water, droped it into the water from a feet height, and kept flushing it in tapping water. After all these tests, I opened the case again and found no trace of water at all. The seals for the keys and the back, in my opinion, are indentical to those in Casio AQS810W series, which are designed to have 10 bar water resistance. After I put the module back, I can finally shower with it without any concerns, and it survived as I expected.
@@TitanikGirl Hey, friend. I could be wrong, but I believe they all use the 3472 module. The only difference between the models is the case and bracelet I think.
Wasn't a watch person and wanted to buy my first, but didn't have the budget for an expensive one. I did some research on casio digitals. Thanks to you the mesh bracelet one is now my first ever watch👌
Hi Ben I got this A700 about 5 weeks ago, I was a little hesitant as I was told the mesh bracelet was not very flexible, but no problem on my 63/4" wrist, I've worn it quite a lot and am more than happy, keep up the good work ,stay safe.
I bought the cheaper A700, and swapped bands. I think the darker face looks better on Milanese band. I thought the cheaper band was horrible so I just tossed that one and put on a different bracelet. Thanks for all your videos. They been enjoyable and instructive.
if you don't see scratches on the crystal after months of use than it's definitely mineral. it might be very thin though that's why it feels like plastic...
I adore the A700. I bought mine not long after your video, and it was one of my best purchases of the year, without a doubt. Even though I didn't have many opportunities to wear it.
I just bought mine now as a result of your video. Was planning on increasing my watch budget after a recent purchase of an expensive watch, but just couldn't resist how cool the mesh version looks!
I bought this watch on your recommendation Ben. I’m not disappointed at all! Like you I wish it had say 50m/100m even better of water resistance! I’m far from being a nerd, & it’s surprising how many nerd/techie computer guys start up a conversation just because I’m wearing this retro style Casio! Good review, REVIEW again! Cheers & best wishes for Christmas from Australia! Stay safe over there!!!🍻🇦🇺
Its been 6 months since I saw your video and I got it as well. Still my favourite go to everyday watch. Also awww seeing my comment on this video made me so happy! Thanks Ben!
OK, just purchased another one. LOL. A couple of other quick things. I have a 7-inch wrist, and this watch works perfectly. I love smaller watches. Watches used to be sized like this watch, and every other watch in my collection. Like you, very little scratching despite work from home daily wear, and the pole run-in (my shirt, thankfully, protected it from scratches). I'm still waiting for that metal version, too, as I mentioned before. One final note. I was subscribed to a bunch of watch review sites, but now just subscribe to two: You and Just One More Watch. I'm not interested in watches just because they cost a lot. You and JOMW review watches that are great, regardless of price, and I love that. Again, cheers, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.
They should make all those silver retro models with all-metal construction and a better finish against unavoidable everyday scratches. I would gladly pay additional $ for them.
I bought myself one of these and I think it's a nice retro looking little piece with a good backlight and a display that is clear easily readable and looks awesome!.
This is such a great watch! I purchased mine well over a year ago thanks to your review Ben. I really do think this is mineral glass as the dial is completely free of scratches. The case obviously has plenty. I also want to report on the Water Resistance. I have showered in this watch many times, been in the ocean with it on several occasions and even decided to submerge it in water for 3 full days. No issues at all. This watch is a beast and the most comfortable timepiece I have ever worn. I can’t recommend the A700 enough. This is by far my most inexpensive watch, yet, I find myself wearing it all of the time. Thanks Ben!
I got this watch in August (four months ago). After adjusting the bracelet to were it fit securely on me, it's been completely functional and reliable. The bracelet nipping the hairs doesn't happen as often (or at all really) anymore compared as to when I first got the watch. Would recommend to anyone very tempted and looking a watch that is just a watch.
I really enjoyed this 6 month follow up on this watch. Your video sold me on the Casio a168. Like most other casio owners I couldn't stop at one so shortly after I purchased the Casio ae1200 and that particular watch hasn't left my wrist since.
A700W is the only digital watch I have, I like the sleekness factor but wish there was beefed up version, ie. made of metal and with a proper bracelet.
I recently picked up the A158 and really enjoying it. Prior to that, I wore the DW5600 G-Shock. The face is scratched up but still ticking. I was thinking of getting the A700 only because it has a better light, but it doesn't look as retro as the A158.
Just bought a Casio A700 after watching a few reviews (this one in particular). I chose the other version, the one with a black square on the face, colored text and 80's style metal band (shown at 3:35). I'm very pleased with the watch, it's so light, so thin. Very different from other watches I usually wear. And I great reminder of the f-91w I used to own when I was a kid.
Based on your first review, I just bought this one and it's great! No regrets at all. But it doesn't get as many comments as my AQ230A, which was a little cheaper and looks more dressy. Between the 2, I've ended up with a couple of solid favourites that I cherish as if they were worth 10, 20 times as much as they are. Keep up the good work. 👍
Yep, because of you I ordered this watch. I’m still waiting on it to come, but God, isn’t this watch just slick? I hope it would reach my expectations.
That's the most gorgeous digital watch Casio ever made, IMO. It's just tragic that it's so small; with my 7.5' wrist, I don't think I could ever pull it off! 😭
I absolutely love mine. Bought it after your review, and also have been wearing it constantly. Will NEVER sell or trade it. Period. I almost ruined it. Long story, but got stuck on a roof. Used a pole to get down, thus busting the strap clasp. OK, looked for days for a replacement bracelet. Finally found a replacement mesh bracelet, but here's the deal: The way the milenese strap that comes with the watch is designed, it's wider at the connection, and is--hence--"part" of the design. OK, so the replacement milinese bracelet arrives. Unfortunately, it's not flared at the top, even though it looked like it on the website I bought it from. Wasn't cheap, but is a close match to stock bracelet, sans the "needed" flaring at the top. That's when I have an epiphany, of sorts. All I really need is the strap pin from the new bracelet. It came with two strap pins, of course. What happened is I popped the pin out of clasp, that the clasp catches, and then you lock by pressing down lightly. I bent the bent clasp, gently back together, inserted the strap pin into it, and held my breath. Could this work? The strap pin certainly clicked into position, was strong, and looked very similar to the original, tiny little bar. I attached the hook clasp. OK, so far, so good. LOL. I pushed down gently, not truly believing it would lock. It freaking locked. My baby was back in business. Held on to the replacement strap, in case I have to use it at a future date. I can't say why exactly I love this watch so much, but I would only (and then I'd probably regret it) trade it for a handful of watches that I want, but don't have: Seiko SARB 033, Marathon General Purpose, and a Hamilton Khaki King. I actually just talked myself into buying a backup, so I'm going to go do that. Oh, one final thing: If they offered this exact same watch, with a stainless steel case and sapphire crystal, I would be willing to pay up to $300 for it, even with the same internals and strap. I know about the stainless steel versions you mentioned, but they just don't have the design that makes this watch special. By the way, I'm a collector of cheap watches that punch above their weight. Your responsible for several of my watches. Your recommendations have been spot on. Thank you, keep up the great work, and Merry Christmas.
I'd definitely pay a premium for exactly the same watch but with a metal case. I love my a700we, just wish it was more durable in the long run against scratching and a bit more water resistant so I could go swimming with it.
Being a Casio fan, I still prefer my 1982 Pulsar "Running Man" vintage digital all steel watch before those popular retro A168 etc models with resin cases. However, this one (the light grey dial one) I would consider. It's more refined than the usual retro models. I don't see it as feminine at all, just having a sleeker modern design. I have a similar bracelet on a mechanical but ultra-thin Sea-Gull, and it's just ridiculously comfortable. Happy Holidays, Ben, and keep up the god work for hopefully a better 2021 for all of us. As an old geezer, I really appreciate that you show young people (hopefully watching) that good watches don't have to be that expensive, and that there are way better (and more affordable) alternatives than the crappy over prized fashion watches that are targeted to them on social media etc. Cheers.
0:23 My biggest complaint concerning most of digital watches from Casio is the lack of a countdown timer function. There are only two non-G-Shock models I know of that have that functionality: W-202 and B-640. Sadly, neither of them come in a metal case variant.
Hey Ben, thanks for the videos about the A700. I've tried lots of the Silver cheap Casio's and your nod to the A700 helped steer me there. I find it the best due to the thiness and the bracelet that does not catch hairs! I've got a A1000MA-7EF arriving next week to compare.
Just seen this review after 6 months and agree with everything you say. One point that's just a wee gripe from me is that it's virtually impossible to keep fingerprints and grease from the shiny, 'chrome' surfaces unless I keep the watch clear of clothing by wearing a t-shirt or short-sleeve shirt! But when carefully wiped it actually looks quite classy for a watch that some people might consider a woman's, or worse still - a kids, watch!!!
I have the grey one & it's definitely mineral glass. You have the A700WE whereas mine's the A700W, only for the Asian market which is where I sourced mine. The glass so far is scratch free, but sounds worryingly thin when you tap it.
Really like the style of this Casio but currently have no occasion where I could imagine to wear it. But will keep it in mind once my collection is desperate for a plain, simple and versatile quarz watch. Thank you for your review...
Recently found your channel with this video earlier this week. After watching several more, I'm glad to say that my A700 and a LA670 for my gf (both silver and w/ milanese bands) are already on there way 😊 You make such high quality, infomative, and unbiased videos man. Def. a fan!
Just bought a A158 yesterday and now I see this! Although for some reason these A700 a tremendously expensive in Canada, amazons listing is for $132 vs the $25 I just got the a158 for!
The passion you had for the A700s thin design in your original video encouraged me to get one. I'm not a Casio collector and I do wear smart watches the majority of the time. However, the A700 is insanely practical as a dress watch AND when I'm going to be doing physical work. It's so slim that I've literally never caught it on anything, which is a common occurrence with my other watches, as I'm quite clumsy. I'm not surprised you haven't got any scratches on the display, it's almost impossible to hit something this thin 😂
Seen some crazy prices for this watch, especially on amazon, but I was able to snag one for ~$35 and I think that's worth the extra cost over the other silver/black version
I wish they made the lighter version with the different colours on the functions still on the milanese bracelet! Oh and please stainless steel cases Casio!
finially someone in the States has one on Ebay with the gold mesh band, got one- I'll pick up the silver mesh if one shows up, nice looking stuff, Keep the thin stuff coming Casio
I have an A158 which I love to wear. If Casio make a similar retro looking small and thin (under 10mm) watch with tough solar, bluetooth, full stainless steel and mineral glass, I'll be happy to buy it, even if the price will be around 150€. If someone from Casio is reading this, please let it happen.
solar cell in the dial, radio synchronisation, always on (or regular hands), auto DST time switching. in all a zero hassle watch (Casio wave captor or Citizen eco drive), always on time, and a nice design to boot. If this A700 can do all that, then I'll certainly consider it.
You nailed it. Great review for the much difficult task, to make a cheap watch desirable, well done Casio... Seiko should learn a lesson or two. My vote for the new comer, I really like the look of the bracelet.
@@ForeverUnknowing :) I guess I haven't yet forgiven Seiko for the SKX. I miss pre X Prospex, and the fact that not so long ago you could buy a Marine Master with 8L35 movement for around 1.500€ the SBDX001.
SKMEi makes a less costly clone with the mesh band (which I'd likely replace). It purports to have a metal case and glass window. Only one seller on eBay has it (for about $12 US). I may get one. I like the thinner body which shouldn't bounce around as much as thicker cases, and not get caught on a shirt sleeve-cuff. Thick, heavy watches are just impractical. I just wish they'd put the month on these (often needed for work, writing cheques, etc.). Casio only makes thicker models that have that feature -- and will never learn..
I bought both the A700 and A158 after seeing the band change on another channel. The A700 looks really good with the A158 band. You should do the swap and tell us what you think.
Unisex or not, this is actually a fantastic watch for children as well; Cheap, good looking, reliable, accurate. No more excuses for coming home late for dinner.
Thx for the follow-up. I purchased the darker one with the retro band based on your first video. I have to agree that this is a great all day wear. I have hairy arms and the band hasn't caused any pulls that I've noticed. Thx a ton for the review. I love this watch.
I love mine & I have a 7.5" wrist but they scratch too easily & I'm light on my watches. I'm wearing my A500W today which is like the world timer version of the A700, I love that monochrome grey look. My favourite Casio of the year though is the A1000, just that little bit more heft makes a world of difference. I'm tempted by the new Casios with the tartan strap & tartan dial, shame they don't sell them on the same watch, you need to buy 2 to get the all tartan look. I'll still probably do it though. Casios don't count, right?
Aside from all the usual features, what's essential for me is a countdown timer - it's useful for so many things, from timing an egg, baking bread, doing interval training, reminding yourself to stop playing GTA Onilne.... etc. etc. Unfortunately AFAICT it's only available on the Casio B640 and W202 - I say "unfortunately" because, even though I've been wearing the B640 for the past 6 years, I don't really like its shape very much compared to almost any other Casio.... I don't understand why it has to be round.... I would prefer my watch to look like the W59, but have the same module as the B640.... is this too much to ask???
I prefer my A1000m to the A700, which I picked up for €60. You don't read it head on, but at an angle. The angle is exactly how you would hold your wrist for checking the time, which makes me think it was done on purpose. Yes Ben, I think you're wrong about the A1000. Fight me! :P
I've owned the alternative coulor one since not long after the first reveiw. Same conclusion, its super practical and the first go-to watch. very sleek

I put it onto a Nato for extra lightness, I love how non existent it is. Especially when working on my computer.
Good level water resist, decent green illumination backlight and decent display I got the 168WA
I'd definitely pay a premium for exactly the same watch but with a metal case. I love my a700we, just wish it was more durable in the long run against scratching and a bit more water resistant so I could go swimming with it.
I swam a lot in it. Nothing will happen to it, it's very waterproof
thanks for the hint back than. I love wearing mine with the not-so-elegant shirts 😅👍
Bought the watch based on your review, no regrets. Thx!
Great to hear!
You got countdown timer on w800h with a little mod..
My gf got me this (the gold one) for our anniversary. I was so hyped and she doesn't even know why hahaha i love it
Hey Ben, thanks for the videos about the A700. I've tried lots of the Silver cheap Casio's and your nod to the A700 helped steer me there. I find it the best due to the thiness and the bracelet that does not catch hairs! I've got a A1000MA-7EF arriving next week to compare.
And how did you like the A1000MA-7EF in the flesh?
Mate wear it wherever you want, no one cares what other people have on their wrist
My sister took one of these for snorkeling and swimming, she adores this one. I will get one of these eventually
Hey that button arrangement favours a left- hander! 'bout time!
Bought it. It's insane. Wearing it everywhere
Thank for the good riview, i buy one after watch your video.. love this watch! Simple look n retro..
Do a SOTC Ben. Having a small wrist, it will be very interesting to see your collection
Recently found your channel with this video earlier this week. After watching several more, I'm glad to say that my A700 and a LA670 for my gf (both silver and w/ milanese bands) are already on there way 😊
You make such high quality, infomative, and unbiased videos man. Def.
I like how the strap and bezel almost matches the LCD screen.
I wish they made the lighter version with the different colours on the functions still on the milanese bracelet! Oh and please stainless steel cases Casio!
Immediately bought this after seeing your original review for a mate 👍
You could be casted for the perfect young agent-47! Besides that, nice video!
Maybe one day!
I just bought two of these gorgeous watches. My new favourite
finially someone in the States has one on Ebay with the gold mesh band, got one- I'll pick up the silver mesh if one shows up, nice looking stuff, Keep the thin stuff coming Casio
No
I took your advice ,I bought one ,great watch
There are two variations A700WE and A700W depending of the market according to Casio website one comes with acrylic and the other with mineral glass.
Which one with mineral glass?
@@n1time625 A700WE are acrylic. Go to Casio international those are mineral crystal.
@@n1time625 On the site I think it's the A700WEM-7AEF listed as having mineral glass.
@@yana5284 thanks
@@igorR061 thanks
I have the black one. Love the design, thickness and the bracelet. I only wish the case is s.steel.
solar cell in the dial, radio synchronisation, always on (or regular hands), auto DST time switching. in all a zero hassle watch (Casio wave captor or Citizen eco drive), always on time, and a nice design to boot. If this A700 can do all that, then I'll certainly consider it.
got the Milanese bracelet version because of this video. cant stop wearing it. all i want now is to have the darker module with the Milanese band.
Damn i want just the opposite combination.. something we can work out?
You nailed it. Great review for the much difficult task, to make a cheap watch desirable, well done Casio... Seiko should learn a lesson or two. My vote for the new comer, I really like the look of the bracelet.
Seiko does make cheap watches desirable. They're called Seiko 5s. Okay, they are more than this watch. But they also aren't digital.🙂
@@ForeverUnknowing :) I guess I haven't yet forgiven Seiko for the SKX. I miss pre X Prospex, and the fact that not so long ago you could buy a Marine Master with 8L35 movement for around 1.500€ the SBDX001.
Now I own A700 for 1.5 years and still like it as I the first day I bought it.
The retro slide option is one of my favorite watches
Big fan of that bracelet, nice change to the usual!
I bought both the A700 and A158 after seeing the band change on another channel. The A700 looks really good with the A158 band. You should do the swap and tell us what you think.
Good idea i will buy and do it like you did
Unisex or not, this is actually a fantastic watch for children as well; Cheap, good looking, reliable, accurate.
The old FS-02 is also exactly 6mm. I guess it is a tie for the thinnest Casio
I doubt Ben just threw his once beloved watch in with a bunch of cords and knick-knacks.
Great watch, this will be my dedicated dress watch
Great "bang for buck" watches for sure. But personally I prefer my F-91W despite its cheaper feel on wrist.
I really love how this watch looks so I got one for myself, but unfortunately it's just a bit too small for my wrists.
I prefer my A1000m to the A700, which I picked up for €60. You don't read it head on, but at an angle. The angle is exactly how you would hold your wrist for checking the time, which makes me think it was done on purpose. Yes Ben, I think you're wrong about the A1000. Fight me! :P
I have it in gold with the mesh bracelet and I love it!
1:58 that's a huge wrist man
I've owned the alternative coulor one since not long after the first reveiw. Same conclusion, its super practical and the first go-to watch. very sleek
