very sad they got rid of the sun going down on sunset wilds, it was so nice starting the track with the nice orange tint, and then ending on the dark blue/ purple tint
I love moonview highway, and I’m glad it’s back. But without as many cars to bump into it doesn’t feel as chaotic as before

Athens Dash is easily my favorite track of the wave. Spectacular scenery aside, it is so much fun to drive- particularly on 200. Kamek favorite new character just because of his horn. Top tier horn.
The remixed Moonview Highway music literally made my mouth drop! Absolutely LOVE how it sounds!
It would have made it even more thrilling if MVH kept its frantic mode with such an upbeat tempo, my lord! 🤣

I love the retro tracks chosen, but I feel like moonview highway is missing lots of cars and chaos from the original mkwii one.
I love Tour Athens Dash, feels so refreshing compared to the other Tour City Tracks

@@Zoso55 Talking about the building quality, not the actual designs of the buildings, they look so ugly and low poly in the game.
As much as I love this wave and bringing back Koopa Cape, my favorite track of all time and even adding anti gravity underwater, the one issue I have is the sunset got removed in Sunset Wilds, despite happening in Super Circuit. Hopefully it will be brought back soon enough since it's the highlight of the track and removing it was a big crime on Nintendo's part.
Considering waluigi pinball is still missing a noticeable sound effect, I highly doubt they will change anything.
The sunset is also in tour. Which makes that sadder
@@JohnTK The missing sound effect in Waluigi Pinball can still be faintly heard in the course intro so I don't think that needs a change. However, removing the sunset is just a major facepalm considering it's in Super Circuit but not 8DX which runs on more powerful hardware and could at the very least have kept the sunset change. Hopefully this gets fixed soon like with the cars in Coconut Mall during Wave 1

The sky box is realistic so I was wondering how they were gonna pull it off… they couldn’t. The only way to bring back the sunset is to go back to tour’s sky graphics
Unpopular opinion: Moonview Highway is goated in both the original and BCP. The music is such a banger and the way the BCP version of the music has an even more clear distinction between the city and the highway variations and the highway variation adds sax to it is just so underrated imo. Squeaky Clean Sprint is definitely a close second for me in this wave though.
11:30 I love it when Troy mentions that he rides his bike on the bike path in downtown Los Angeles right as he approaches the “amazing and incredible” bike path on the track itself! This track has such a fantastic recreation from its original design and I would just love to travel to that tropical paradise especially because of its fantastic bike path atmosphere! Nintendo should’ve also added SoFi Stadium on the track in honor of Troy’s favorite NFL team…the Los Angeles “Shock Chargers!”
Between Sunset Wilds not having a sunset, Moonview being a lot less chaotic, and Koopa Cape feeling weirdly short, I gotta say the retro tracks have me feeling a little let down this wave. Luckily Daisy Cruiser is still a banger.

I managed to figure out the rivals for the new characters after doing some tests so here they are
Kamek - Bowser Jr.
Wiggler - Yoshi, Shy Guy (Which are interestingly the exact same rivals from Mario Kart 7)
Petey Piranha - King Boo (With King Boo now have Petey Piranha as his rival)
Also for whatever reason Kamek and Wiggler don’t use the normal Peach Parasol Glider color with Wiggler using the orange color and Kamek using the turquoise color
I can't figure out the reason for wigglers rival. I thought the theme was characters with a kart made after them (yoshi bike wild wiggler) but shy guy is so random
On the bathroom track, on the top route, you can glide right as there is 2 secret ways on the bottom and on the far top right.
Loved the Athens track! It felt so adventurous and not like a city track! Moonview highway looks beaaaautiful and the music is a banger. The bathroom track is so cool and creative, you can take multiple paths with the glider just like in ninja hideaway (this is what MK7/MK8 needed to do more with the glider!)
Really disappointed that it doesn’t go into nighttime on sunset wilds

Wasn't like the last time we saw Petey Piranha in a mario kart game was back in Double Dash? Excited to see him come back as a playable character again.
He was in Tour before his reappearance in MK8D.

Vancouver is definitely my favorite, I love the night time theme and same goes for Moonview. But I did find it surprising that Kamek's horn is the same sound of his voice in the original Yoshi's Island.

I don’t get why you can’t drive up the walls on the pipe in koopa cave. The same with them taking away the halfpipe turns on coconut mall. The whole gimmick of the game is you can drive on walls and upside down
This is amazing, the last track is one of my favorites, it really adds that difficulty to the wave
Moonview Highway actually doesn’t have a set placement for the boosters. They randomize every time you load the map.
Moon view highway was such a banger track

There are so few cars, compared to the Wii track. It's a terrible race and everyone is talking about the sunset in Sunset Wilds and the electrical wheels in Koopa Cave instead (which in all honesty never hit anyone).

I’m a little disappointed about how much they nerfed Moonview Highway, but other than that, solid wave
i’m having a lot of fun with kamek/city tripper/rollers. city tripper got a ground speed buff so it sits right in between ink striker and mr scooty now in terms of speed and mini turbo
For Koopa Cape, hold a drift when exiting the underwater section, then boost through the waterfall
why did they remove those red things that can hit you in the tunnel

5:35 OMG!!!! I’m OBSESSED with the brand new color texture of the LED lights on top of the race sign on Moonview Highway! MOONVIEW HIGHWAY IN THE THUMBNAIL!!!! I also didn’t even expect this track to be remade but I’ll still take it!
In this version of Koopa Cape, it might actually be quicker to do the waterfall shortcut shroomless than go the regular route. It definitely doesn't make you fall off. Just slows you down slightly but it works well if you get a good angle and it isn't punishing
As someone who was born and grew up in the Vancouver area, I lost my mind when I played Vancouver Velocity for the first time! Absolutely love it!
Sunset Wilds doesn't have the night transition which is a HUGE bummer. 😞
I'm from the Vancouver region in Canada. I loved seeing the big science center sphere, the bridges and the hockey rink from this track.

My favorite so far is definitely Vancouver Velocity, I’m surprised to say it considering I adore Koopa Cape and Moonview Highway in Wii and I’m typically not the biggest fan of the Tour city tracks, but Vancouver sticks out to me massively because of the forested areas and the ice skating rink. Love the difficulty, too!
I’m mad about how badly they neutered Sunset Wilds, though. They did it dirty :/ it was the one I was most excited for, too!
I love how constantly Troy has been making videos for the past few weeks! He is really putting in a lot of effort and has a lot of great ideas planned! Keep up the good work Troy!
Wave 5 is so good also new stat
changes in the changelog which is interesting.
Top 3: Koopa Cape, Vancouver Velocity, Athens Dash.
Bottom 3: Moonview Highway, Daisy Cruiser, Sunset Wilds.
Not quite as many stinkers as wave 1, but I'd probably rank the waves (best to worst) as 4>3>2>5>1.
This is my favorite wave so far. I loved playing all eight of these stellar tracks.
I don't expect they will, but it would be cool if they went back to touch-up Wave 1. It's so weird how noticeably lower quality some of those courses are...
I already tried out the brand new tracks. They're a lot more difficult now. I conquered the Daisy Cruiser one just fine thanks to my muscle memory from playing it on Mario Kart: Double Dash. But that Athens Dash track is absolutely gorgeous!
Wave 4 is still my favorite wave but I really loved getting to play as kamek here

Interesting, Petey’s jump animations are completely different for me, they were the ones from Tour. Maybe it has to do with the vehicle you use? Cool!
characters do sometimes have different animations depending on the type of vehicle you use, the donkey kong dab can only be seen on certain ones

In December 2022, we thought Wave 3 was good. In the Spring, Wave 4 was the best wave but we didn’t see nothing yet until today!
This Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave just broke the internet!
10:34 fun fact, there are A LOT of side paths coming off of that up-path at the end in Sqeaky Clean Sprint. You can also trick off of the drain in the sink, drive along the dirt in the last turn on the bottom path, there’s also a mushroom gorge mushroom if you glide all the way up and right to a railing. All of the glider stuff can only be accessed from the end of lap 2 and beginning of lap 3. I think there’s 4-5 possible things to do including driving on the faucet and a plant. Also I found that you can drive outside of the tub and under the ramp right before it. The tub drain actually sucks you in if you don’t move, same with the fan and it’s wind.
The music, especially Wii Moonview Highway, blew my mind!
Athens Dash - 4/5 - Kinda cluttered, but nice once you get used to it, and I love the secret cave with items
Daisy Cruiser - 2/5 - It looks great, but the track design hasn't aged well, and it's really short
Moonview Highway - 3/5 - Mostly sad because we were robbed of Dry Dry Ruins
Squeaky Clean Sprint - 5/5 - Pleasantly surprised at how complex it is without feeling awkward
Los Angeles Laps - 5/5 - Might be the best city course layout-wise.
Sunset Wilds - 1/5 - Probably the worst GBA retro
Koopa Cape - 4/5 - Not my favorite course, but it works well
Vancouver Velocity - 4/5 - Great overall, but lap 3 is bad, and lap 1 is a little tight without Tour's smart steering
Overall, my third favorite wave, with wave 4 in second and wave 3 in first.

From what I understand, Petey Piranha shares stats with Rosalina, Wiggler shares stats with Waluigi, and Kamek shares stats with Mario
Petey has the same stats as Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach and Kamek has the same stats as Luigi and Iggy. You're right about Wiggler though

I just found out that Petey actually doesn't have the exact same stats as the metals. Petey has 6 invincibility while the metals only have 3. Other than that, they're the same.
So from what I've seen, Kamek Pipe Frame is very popular
this wave is perfect. i have a feeling that wave 6 will be beyond perfect tho

something I'm not seeing a lot of people talk about is the fact that the moonview highway music changes when you enter the city portion like it does in wii. so glad they kept that tbh
I’m really sad they got rid of the Koopa sign and kept the orange hills on Koopa cape, that the cars are so slow on moonview and that the time doesn’t change on sunset wilds. Overall though I still very much enjoyed it, I was surprised how much I liked Athens.

There's this trend in these DLC retro tracks that always made me feel off about them, not only because of the fact that they're cartoonish, but also because they feel VERY upscaled and nerfed, and that makes tracks like Maple Treeway and Moonview Highway not as fun as they were before, because they're no way near as difficult. If wii Rainbow Road comes, people will notice it if they do that. Turns just feel too wide and open and it's not a good thing. If that's an adaptation for 200cc, that means they forgot about the concept of 200cc. You want to feel like you go incredibly fast through the tracks, not going at a pace intended for them.
Hey Troy love your videos I’ve been watching you for almost 10 years now, and I just wanna say thank you for all the content over the years. And you should try dry bones pipe frame azure rollers and cloud glider it’s really good and maybe a competitor with dry bones biddybuggy

i was so hyped for this wave but it falls short personally, the koopa cape redesign without water in the pipe is not a change i'm keen on, also they removed all the cool koopa signposts (like the one after the firts boost panel jump or the one as soon as you enter the water stream part).
Don't get me started on sunset wilds, now it really is a glorified circle with its main mechanic removed (the fact that the sun doesn't actually set).
Then, and this is just my opinion, I was kinda disappointed by Vancouver, I haven't played the Tour version but this one felt kinda bland, i don't know if they oversimplified this with the porting, same as sunset wilds in tour.
My first impressions:

3: I dunno.
4: I dunno.
5: I dunno.
6: I dunno.
7: I dunno.
8: Sunset Wilds.
(It's not even about the lack of sunset, that is dissapointing but I've never liked the track with or without it)
The rest are all great though.
The pattern of the boosters changes every time you play on Moonview! Similar to how Excitebike Arena changes each time you play.

my favourite track of wave 5 is for sure Vancouver. The layout is simple but good. the visuals are great. and the music is amazing. Just a very fun course. That being said, LA and squeeky clean are also great.
My favourite track in this wave has got to be Vancouver velocity, might be biased since I’m from there. It’s very accurate with what is in the track it’s awesome
love the rogers arena touch, yet i feel the canucks dont deserve that as an organisation given the past five or six years . . .

All the other tracks look pretty cool though; can't wait to play Dasiy Cruiser and Koopa Cape again, but this time in eight!

@@Mothrune Screw me over in the worst ways possible, from getting squished by the cars, to hitting them then falling off the track, and the bomb cars. Yeah.. I didn't enjoy my time with Moonview Highway, but the music is actually really good, so it has that goin' for it

Hearing you talk about LA and recognizing everything makes me wish they would add a St Louis track since I live in Missouri. I don’t live in St Louis but I’ve been plenty of times. I’m a huge Cardinals fan so seeing dodgers stadium in MK made me super jealous lol.
You can trick off the green towel heading towards the finish line. It doesn’t add much speed or time save but it’s something that is good to know when playing

Moonview Highway is similar to Excitebike where the boost panels are random everytime except for time trials where it’s always the same. You can also trick off the towels at the end of Squeaky Clean Sprint

Love how they threw in Rogers Arena in Vancouver Velocity, home of my favourite NHL team, the Vancouver Canucks (who also suck rn)
On squeaky clean sprint, there are actually 3 alternative paths you can take with the glider. First you can go on the other side of the toothbrush and go back onto the main path using a ramp. Second you can go a little more to the right and there will be boost panels and some leaves to trick on. Third, you can go all the way to the right before the finish line and go behind the biddybug alarm clock and there will be a mushroom to trick on
Koopa cape is 100% my favourite as a MKWii player
