I'm English and we are in a golden age for the women's team, but USWNT is a team in major transition, full generational shift. I think i saw Moultrie on the pitch at the end there and she's just turned 18. The younger players have the talent and potential, and I think once the new coach is settled we'll see USA return as a force within a couple of years.
I hope we can recover our full strength to face England again, our national teams have the same level and skills

Pretty weak performance from the USWNT as a whole, but Shaw and Fishel have some pretty extreme power there. If those two can improve their shot selection they could devastate opposition goalies

*Sophia Smith cannot finish. She wasn't able to finish on three easy clear occasions to score. Her issue is that when she has the chance to put the ball behind the net, she stares at the ball, not at the goalkeeper. It is like when you are shooting with a pistol. You are not supposed to look at the pistol but the target. This is the difference between the great and the average striker.*
She came back from a small injury two months ago. I’d give her a bit more time

I won thousand percent agree with you. She does not deserve to be on the national team whatsoever. If it was Mallory Pugh Swanson playing instead of Sophia Smith she would’ve had four or five goals in the first 45 minutes. She’s probably like 80% healthy now can’t wait for her to get back. You need to remember this was like our C team and under our last coach we went back like three years instead of progressing. he always ran the 433 never deviated never substituted. He actually made practice one a day instead of two days because some of the older players were complaining about being tired. In my opinion, that was the worst US soccer ever made. They should’ve hired Tony Gustavsson and buzz my mind that they didn’t hire him this time. He was under Das.
This is a much better performance. Still chaotic play out there and way to many long crosses which good defenses will pick apart. But the new coach and new players are giving me some hope of the girls getting back to being elite in the world. They need speed on some of the overlaping runs. Hopefully Pugh comes back healthy someday. She will give that speed again. But much better play.

@@flone9872 Mallory (Pugh) Swanson is on the mend from a pretty bad injury. Leading up to the WC, she was on FIRE for both the USWNT and in the NWSL.
@@Bamboo4U2 I have seen her play. Maybe we have been spoiled, for many years usa team always had a couple of players who were able to finish the plays. Now, they still look very good except for scoring. The last WC was no fluke, they were so struggling against the euro teams.
Not a bad performance considering nearly all of the players are rookies. They need to play like this so the coaches can see where the opportunities are.

The US isn't that interesting to watch right now. Just a bunch of kids with individual talent. I watched the Lionesses game yesterday and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. For the US game I was like ok this is fine... The Lionesses played an unbelievable game. I talked to a couple people who were in Wembley Stadium and they said the atmosphere was electric.
When Sophia Smith acquires the ability to convert just 1/2 of the excellent chances she gets, she'll become the dominant star that everyone wants her to be. She has blinding speed and some good instincts that are impressive and entertaining but that doesn't translate into goals and wins...
Scoring goals is not a 'skill you acquire',
it's a gift you're born with.
Unfortunately, at present, she needs 5 good chances to convert 1 of them at this level ... I daresay she'll improve !!

More teams are professional , and their skill level and tactical awareness is much better than the Usa. The Usa hasnt got any worse. The other teams have got better.

Watching this U.S womens national team shows the U.S glory days are over they beat a Short handed China women's national football team that has a lot of new players that are rebuilding and many of the key players are missing. Mexico has a long way to go I can see the Philippines women national soccer team beating Mexico.

Smith is still a work in progress for international games. She dissapears when needed o misses easy shots. But the young players in general were flying during the first 10 minutes, free to run and play in the open. For the second half, the substituions paid off: Shaw was a great passer (a new function for her) and covered Horan's traditional role. Nighswonger was exceptional. Moultrie and Fishel did their thing too. They are young and badly need direction, vision, tactics, to talk more about who does what. But the potential is there. Too bad there is not a coach in situ or with a UEFA Championship in hand or a solid good experience in NTs. Not so sure about DeMelo and Coffey. It doesn't seem they are ready for the NT. Hopefully, more challenging rivals are on the list.There is no real merit on winning to weak teams. Remember what happened with Vladtko.

I agree. I'm so tired of the USWNT playing ANY team in the western hemisphere. I'd love it if we put a moratorium on playing against teams ranked near the bottom of international standings. It does our team no favors.
A rational reply would be that the UEFA women's Nations League pretty much making all European countries unavailable for international friendly matches.
And other countries's friendly matches tend to observe such schedules for whenever they can set up friendly matches with the available nations, since the Nations League pauses national leagues, making players available.
The US would likely have to do without Horan - the captain - and Fishel if the pause in the European leagues hadn't been in effect.
Other potential opposition might have been more affected, like i.e Australia - with most of their squad playing in European clubs, including the best striker in the world Sam Kerr.

Expect even if there had been VAR, they would not have intervened.
If the defender had been better positioned, then I'd expect it would be a fifty-fifty situation with both a referee and VAR decision.
The hand pushed into the backside could reasonably be interpreted by a ref to be a foul if either player touched the ball. There _were_ more to the situation than clean "shoulder against shoulder" stuff that _is_ allowed.
The situation is objectively much more of a toss up than _your_ reply indicates, it could reasonably be said to be _bias for_ the US team.

Two goals missed by Smith are why the women get paid less than the men. Would Messi have missed those shots? Another two that could have been goals. So a total of four or five. I've seen men miss that many. But some were unacceptable.
