Congrats on being the best player of 2023. Here's my list: -1. Hera -2. TheViper -3. Yo -4. TaToH -5. Liereyy -6. Villese -7. ACCM -8. JorDan -9. DauT -10. Vinchester Honorable mentions to Sitaux and Barles! I only used results from the 5 top tournaments in 2023 and treated the whole of 2022 as a single tournament. Yo, TaToH and Liereyy are really really close. Same with DauT and Vinchester. I had Hera as close second last year. Add a second place finish in 2023 and winning all the other four. Total domination Hera, kudos.
Hard to disagree with the list. Props to Tatoh and ACCM who have been terrific this year and also really hope that MBL steps up and takes it more seriously now that he’s full time because he definitely has the skill to beat literally anyone. Daut has also been playing amazing aoe lately, I’d place him above Vinch and I hope he makes it into NAC5, it’s not the same without the Lord 😊
MBL used to be really good. When I first started watching AOE on TH-cam shortly before Hidden Cup 2 I thought of MBL as second best in the world. Back then Vivi was probably top ten too. It’s amazing how much changes is six years (I think six years…). MBL totally has the skills to come back to top ten again though, and his game against Viper in Hidden Cup 2 is still one of the best AOE games I’ve ever seen, I think Aztecs against Chinese (Robbin Hood vs King Wenceslaus).
Great list. You definitely are number 1 right now, and absolutely it could change in 2024. I've only been watching the pro scene for about 4-5 years but you have improved so much, man. It's incredible to see all your hard work pay off. Greatly looking forward to next year!

Honestly, I doubt that he has the ceiling higher than top-5, it's really hard for him to stay super consistent, especially during long matches / game series that take a lot of concentration. If he continues he is definitely going to be back to his levels soon or later... Wish him the best.

I have to say seeing games between you and Viper is like watching Kobe vs Jordan in Basketball! What Viper did will never be replicated and is the greatest achievement in Aoe2 and one of the greatest in all of Esports given how competitive the game is. Still the game developed the body can't keep up at all times anymore and you are the perfect reminder that it just takes losing 1-2% for your consistency for the competition to keep up with you. And while Viper will forever be my favorite player of all time I love seeing every game you play and tournament you win as you slowly start to carry the torch and become the player to beat for the next generation of Aoe2 players out there, that is how sports should develop and make for a great new era of Aoe2 as far as I am concerned. Also thank you very much that you don't brag about being the best, it's what annoys me the most about young players in Sports these days. We all see the jump you made this year and even Viper fans will admit that right now you are the best of the best. And if you truly are the best you don't need to say it yourself, people will say it for you just how Jordan and Daut never bragged about them dominating early Aoe2 and Viper never calling himself the GOAT of Aoe2, us fans, players and casters we know it to be true, you deserved every win and trophy you got that year Hera.
Agree with most of them except 3-5. For all 6 tournaments both Mr.Yo and TaToH attended, Mr.Yo has a higher rank in 4/6 compared with TaToH. And the worst rank is No.6 for Mr.Yo and 9-12 for TaToH. Both Yo and TaToH enter the top 4 in 4 tournaments, but TaToH attends one more tournament.
I can't agree with Tatoh above Yo. The tournament results speak for themselves. On tournaments where both could attend (Yo had visa issues for Grand Melee) Yo wins 4-2. Seems pretty straight forward to me. Yo's worse result is 6th while Tatoh's worse result is 11th. Tatoh does have a finals apearance over Yo but it isn't enough.
The Yo, Lierry & Tatoh triangle is interesting. Feels very much top 2 are clear, then next 3 could swing on one tourney result. Then a big gap with the rest for now
I see Nicov higher than Vinchester in overall but numbers are numbers, I believe Nicvo closed the year a bit low-performance but if he gets the consistency to stay and improve from errors, he is easily a 8-tier in the list. Congrats for your results Hera and greetigns from Mexico!
I've watched all the casted games from the previous Warlords and Cartographer's tournaments. I think your list is spot on - as one would expect. I must say, though, that Mr. Yo's performance in the Cartographer's tournament was spectacular. He really stood out. Paired with a top 10 player I'm convinced he'd taken the trophy home or at least given The Viper and Jordan a run for their money.

Mbl is my favorite pro player of all time and it hurts not seeing him in the top 10. I'm really hoping for an insane comeback for him in 2024. I really wanna see him thrive
I think 2024 will be the year for Barles. The guy is getting stronger and stronger. Remember his first S-tier tournament, he lost all his matches. Now, he is making it very difficult for players like Tatoh. He's not there yet but I think Barles can be a top 7 player.
Feels odd placing Yo below Tatoh as, barring the one tournament he couldn't play, he placed better than Tatoh in 4 of them and only 2 below him in the other two...
For me, and I'm including all tournaments from 2023, not just 1v1: Hera Tatoh The Viper Yo Lierry Daut Jordan Situax Vinchester Nicov If I keep going: MBL Villese ACCM FreakinAndy Vivi Dogoa Valas? Barles? I'm not 100% sure after Dogoa but it feels right, as these players did turn up in multiple S, A and B Tier tournaments.

Crazy how top-heavy the scene has become. There seem to be 3 clear tiers here. Hera-Viper who win tournaments, Yo-Liereyy-TaToH who will make top 4, and then another 15 or so players that can make top 8s (or qualify for 10-person invitationals). So if there’s anything from the video I disagree with, it’s the closing remarks. It does not feel like anyone can win any event.
Hera. You are absolutely #1 based on tourney results, and that's awesome! Wild choice to show you winning NAC IV by pressing "the button" though LOL. I felt you were gonna win that game anyway, but it still just feels silly.

But yeah there's no doubt you're #1 currently and probably for the foreseeable future. But as you said the margins are super thin so there's no time to rest on your laurels as they say. You're very dominant right now but games are not blowouts anymore like they were in the Viper years. The scene is very competitive and that's great to see.

I feel you heavly underestimate Daut and Barles there. Both of them are actually in great shape and are lossing pretty much only to very best after hard series. I would do the list that way: 1. Hera 2. Viper 3/4/5 Larry, Tatoth and Yo in whatever order unless Larry is in shape then he is top 3. 6. Daut 7. Vilesse - very strong, but in in current shape. In current shape he might be actually even out of top 10. 8. ACCM 9. Barles 10. Jordan

Great list, fully agree with 1-5 and then it's sometimes even smaller margins so hard to say. I think in the end I agree with 6-8 with perhaps DauT at 9th and Vinch just outside the top 10, but that could be recency bias. Barles, Sitaux, Hearttt are definitely making headway towards the top 10 as well with their level and consistency. Also, massive congrats for your year. You've been unbelievably strong and consistent throughout the year, your hard work is paying off. Your gameplay has been impressive to watch, and your humble attitude and continued praise for your opponents is always great to see!
I think we have quite a competative top 16 players. The gaps are not that far off. I agree with the placements. Really close games recently so I like the competition and just us as community having hype over each match played. Still indeed there is like top 5 / top 10 / top 16/ top 24 style of tiering of the skill but there is no such thing as -> S tier tournament = EZ hera win. It's always interesting which I feel is healthy for the game in general.

Number of S Tier semis ACCM and Villese reached in the last 12 months is......Siiiiiiiro literally siiiiiiro. Just 2 top-8 results for ACCM. Only players who reached S tier semis this year are you, Viper, Tatoh, Liereyy, Yo and Mbl. Vinchester had a terrible year as well. 1 event he reached top 8 but otherwise a less than expected result in every other event, failed to qualify back to TTL Platinum. Based on results, Daut definitely ahead of Vinchester and Jordan ahead of ACCM
Congrats Hera for being the #1 player now, since last year I already told my friend that you deserve it. I think the list is fair, but personally, I will put the lord a little bit higher, he's impressive lately. And other than MBL, Nicov, Hearttt, Barles, and Situax, Freaking Andy also improved a lot as well, showing his potential there. And considering the recent performance of Sebastian in the NAC5 qualifier, he has potential as well. overall as a Viper fanboy, I am so happy to see new players joining the competition and beating my GOAT, I don't think Viper will mind as this is good for AOE, and he will still be my GOAT forever no matter if he's washed up or not 11
Your number 3 has won majority of his series against your number 2 in 2023 the past 2 years in total the past 3 years in total and in the past 4 years in total since DE came out. I know it's not the same as the ranking but just something of note. Number 2 has admitted that 3 is especially difficult for him to match up with.

I agree with the ranking but I put Tatoh in no.2 and the viper third place as Tatoh has consistent performance this year and he was in a better shape than the viper. Daut would be easily no.7 if he took it more seriously

I think Tatoh was better last year.. Red bull Legacy, he dominated the whole tournament. Only time I've seen such a dominance was Hera Kotd 5 and Viper Kotd4. He also got second in one of the S-tier. I forgot , only lost to Yo in Grand finals

I feel you heavly underestimate Daut and Barles there. Both of them are actually in great shape and are lossing pretty much only to very best after hard series. I would do the list that way:
1. Hera
2. Viper
3/4/5 Larry, Tatoth and Yo in whatever order unless Larry is in shape then he is top 3.
6. Daut
7. Vilesse - very strong, but in in current shape. In current shape he might be actually even out of top 10.
8. ACCM
9. Barles
10. Jordan

Great list, fully agree with 1-5 and then it's sometimes even smaller margins so hard to say. I think in the end I agree with 6-8 with perhaps DauT at 9th and Vinch just outside the top 10, but that could be recency bias. Barles, Sitaux, Hearttt are definitely making headway towards the top 10 as well with their level and consistency. Also, massive congrats for your year. You've been unbelievably strong and consistent throughout the year, your hard work is paying off. Your gameplay has been impressive to watch, and your humble attitude and continued praise for your opponents is always great to see!
This scene has the nicest, most sportsmanlike top players of any competitive scene I'm aware of with decent prize pools.

DauT is like a mash up between a top 5 player and a top 32 player, when he's playing well he looks brilliant but some games he just falls apart.
I think we have quite a competative top 16 players. The gaps are not that far off. I agree with the placements. Really close games recently so I like the competition and just us as community having hype over each match played. Still indeed there is like top 5 / top 10 / top 16/ top 24 style of tiering of the skill but there is no such thing as -> S tier tournament = EZ hera win. It's always interesting which I feel is healthy for the game in general.

Number of S Tier semis ACCM and Villese reached in the last 12 months is......Siiiiiiiro literally siiiiiiro. Just 2 top-8 results for ACCM. Only players who reached S tier semis this year are you, Viper, Tatoh, Liereyy, Yo and Mbl. Vinchester had a terrible year as well. 1 event he reached top 8 but otherwise a less than expected result in every other event, failed to qualify back to TTL Platinum. Based on results, Daut definitely ahead of Vinchester and Jordan ahead of ACCM

Congrats Hera for being the #1 player now, since last year I already told my friend that you deserve it. I think the list is fair, but personally, I will put the lord a little bit higher, he's impressive lately. And other than MBL, Nicov, Hearttt, Barles, and Situax, Freaking Andy also improved a lot as well, showing his potential there. And considering the recent performance of Sebastian in the NAC5 qualifier, he has potential as well. overall as a Viper fanboy, I am so happy to see new players joining the competition and beating my GOAT, I don't think Viper will mind as this is good for AOE, and he will still be my GOAT forever no matter if he's washed up or not 11

I think Tatoh was better last year.. Red bull Legacy, he dominated the whole tournament. Only time I've seen such a dominance was Hera Kotd 5 and Viper Kotd4. He also got second in one of the S-tier. I forgot , only lost to Yo in Grand finals
I think Mr Yo is consistantly number 4. That makes him play against Hera 4 times in a row in semifinals.
Agreed, I feel like Hera is biased because he always destroys Yo, but other players struggle much more against him
