RJ has one of the smoothest slow rolls in the business! He is a awesome RC model pilot and I'm sure that helps with aerobatics.

A man who is one with his plane. Just a thing of beauty.

One of the few full sized aerobatic acts able to perform a low level high alpha sustained knife edge without partial use of wing lift. While the 300+ horsepower set look fast and spectacular, RJ uses the Decathlon's 150 horses to put on a display of beautiful, accurate aerobatics down low and in front of the crowd. I hope he comes to Australia one day. Your excellent capturing of this display made it even more a pleasure to watch. Oh! And I appreciated you recorded the landing. Always worth looking at!

Such an exciting display. The nice thing about flying an aircraft with limited power and roll rate is that you have to think outside the box for the manoeuvres. The pilot plucked out some model 3D flying too. Extra’s and Edges seem to fly big vertical lines with a fancy gyroscopic sequence at the top which does get a bit repetitive. Great display and a lovely aircraft.

RJ is simply a master with his plane. I started watching it and could not stop.

plane performs well. Anybody know if he has more than 180 horsepower? The maneuvers definitely have RC roots. Nice to watch a full scale flying like a model.

@@horsemoney I know some decathlons have 150, bit that one pulls verticals like a 200. Pretty sure the biggest stock engine is the aio 360, 180 HP.

@@eddybrandt3547 I’m pretty sure this one is only 150 HP

Champs, Citabrias, Decathlons and Scouts are, for some reason, a naturally beautiful aircraft to look at from any angle (in my opinion) not just because of their form but how that form perfectly applies to function. Taking a Decathlon and putting it in the hands of such an accomplished pilot results in a jaw-dropping demonstration that encompasses so many things about the beauty and marvel of flight. Thank you for this, I fully enjoyed it particularly whatever that maneuver at 6:09 is called. And what a landing!! I'm not far from Culpeper, does this pilot frequently fly demonstrations like this in the area?

I’ve seen aerobatics in quite a few different planes and different styles over the years and this is the most amazing I think I’ve ever seen. I wish I was in there with him. 6:30
