Lovely story. I've only had my F355 16 years. They do get under your skin. Cars were a motivator for me too. I think a gated Ferrari will always be one of the ultimate cars now, the way things have gone since.
Yess, absolutly. In 2025 my F355 GTS (2.7, rosso corsa, crema nero) will belong to me for 15 years. I ll always love him; but sometimes, he is a little bit tricky...
In my opinion the best sounding Ferrari ever glad to hear somebody telling the truth £1,000 a year to keep is exactly right if you don't abuse them even the valve guides don't wear out if you warm the engines up if you're not heavy with your foot the clutch will do 50,000 miles easily recommend you change the clutch if the pedal is getting hard sign of worn clutch plate before you ruin the flywheel now that is expensive.. a must for this car is a sports exhaust the sounds great 👍cam belts you don't need to change them every 3 years every 5 is soon enough,,. longer I've actually done,,, issues with these 355 is very rare only the abused cars give trouble great video enjoyed every bit of it😊
Top hats off to him! I thought the story was going to be ‘Dad died, left me money etc’ but no. He worked hard and has kept it 27 years. Good on you! Sorry for the loss of your Dad when you were a young lad and good on you for looking after your Mum.
Having never cared for Ferraris and never heard of a 355 and never driven one I was just "forced" to buy a red/black 1998, F1 Berlinetta from an ex who's husband had died 5 years ago. Apparently her in laws made the estate settlement horrendous and had put her in debt over the course of 5 years of court battles. The car had been sitting in a climate controlled garage for 4 of the five years and all the tires as well as the battery had gone flat. As the only real car guy that she knew other than her husband she priced the car so low I bit my lip and committed to take my chances on all the maintenance horror being visited on me from day 1 forward because she would not allow it to be started and I agreed. To my shock, surprise and utter glee the tires held air, the battery took a charge and after a thorough inspection/oil change the shop I hired to inspect it taught me how to drive with flappy paddles for the first time. I have a beautiful black 2002 Lotus Esprit V8 that is a 200 MPH beast but I think I love this much slower 355 as much or more right now. I get the feeling this Ferrari is going to change my life in a good way and I can't stop smiling thinking about the symphony I heard coming from the back of the car on the first test drive.
My favorite type of car owner and my favorite type of video. Highest respect for owners like this. Not always wanting to chase the latest and greatest but maintaining true love for his car. Thanks for a great video.
In my 20's I was saving for a 355. For years I had a Sunday Times article by Clarkson singing its praises which was pinned to the notice-board in the kitchen. Worked hard, my savings were going up and used prices were coming down. However, I met my wonderful wife and then the kids came along so the plan stalled. She did buy me a 355 track experience for a birthday which was a fantastic day. Now in my late 50's I was able to revive the car fund, but the story isn't going where you think.... I did consider a 355, but (probably incorrectly) thought the cost of running a 30+ year old car and lack of parts could be scary. Anyway, after much though I decided I wanted a GT car so I ended up with a 2011 Aston Martin DBS, so a very happy ending. As mentioned in the video, get out there, join a club (joint membership) and meet lots of lovely like minded people. Great video, more like it please 🙂
What a fantastic story! Such a financially irresponsible decision that changed the owners life. I had a similar experience getting to know some incredible and very influential people simply because of my passion for Porsche. Very well put video too, love it. Best wishes from Poland
Lucky man getting his Ferrari at 27. I had to wait till 29 ( 308 GT4 ) but that was in 1978. He has many more happy years to come.Mine still runs as new
A special story and bond between car and driver for sure. The most interesting part being how the car pushed him to have a paradigm shift in thinking; in people he surrounded himself with and "making his own moves" as a business owner in order to be able to keep the car.
Its obviously a never ending love affair, I don't blame him. I saw the 355 in Performance car in mag in 1994, Im a died in the wool Porsche man, but after reading the outstanding review I declared it as perhaps the greatest of all grail cars, and one that I could see myself owning. Sadly I made some poorly judged futile investments in the 30 years since and now it seems it will never happen despite the tenacity and hard work.
What a refreshing story of why we love cars. The F355 will go down as one of Ferrari all time best V8 road cars. The way it rides the road I call it magic carpet ride it is so smooth and gives immense confidence behind the wheel. Unreal cars and very reliable when driven properly.
Brilliant car, I wish had bought one previously too. As with all long ownerships, the stories over the years of the owner and car together, the memories that have been made are priceless. Looking forward to more of these!
First time to the channel, subbed. 26 when I stretched myself to an integrale. Upgraded to an evo2 many years ago but won't sell it. 26 years integrale ownership, other cars have come and gone over the years but its my baby.

In September 2000 I bought an unfinished project,a red Lotus Europa Type 54 S2. The Europa was all in bits & endless boxes, It had 1 headlight, 1 front indicator, 1 tail light, no exhaust system, no steering universal joint, no interior, no glass, no wiring!, no windscreen or wiper. I had myself my dream car, albeit in boxes. I rebuilt Lotus Europa S2 Chassis 54/2791 and I still own it and drive it like a bastard. I am British but live in Australia. In this part of the world hardly anyone has every see one, It is a Renault-Gordini cross flow head car. It has been on the Dyno every July (Winter in Australia) for the last 3 years and they have tuned the hell out of it, this thing can keep up with 6Litre V8 Holden R8's and Porsche 930's. The sheer joy of owning a Lotus is that it's a giant killer. I love my Lotus Europa
yet another testament to take risks in life, chances are you will be ok. when i bought my first "supercar" i thought i was gonna be broke because that's 90% of the cash i had. Not only did my life changed 9 years later, i have 4 more supercars under one roof
Love mine. Owned since 2015. Red berlinetta, cream leather, Bordeaux carpets and manual gearbox. Every time I consider selling, I drive and just can’t. Looks and sounds amazing and just the right size and performance to still enjoy.
Wonderful looking and sounding car. A friend has one and the noise it makes is simply amazing, I always ask him to give it an extra blip on the throttle when he passes the house. I do think they appeal to a specific generation that we're part of. Thanks for sharing, Kevin
355 came out when I was 15, the stuff of dreams. I nearly bought one when I was in my late 20s when prices were 35-40k for a nice one. Watched the prices slowly go up and up, finally bought my own 355 a few years ago. How I wish I had just done it when they were 35k!!! No regrets so far, I spend £2-3k a year looking after mine on average fwiw.
This is a wild story, how he got the car paying £1600 per month on a salary of £2k a month! And how the car motivated him to succeed in life (which from all appearances it has). Great story
Yes he is quite correct about 1 k a year. I have owned mine for 22 years. However I do all the work my self on it, always have. Still a remarkable ferrari.
I can certainly see how it would cost around £1k a year if you did all the maintenance and servicing yourself (kudos to you for doing that BTW) but am struggling to see how this owner would achieve that if he did an annual service with a periodic cambelt change from an independent specialist? I’ve had my GTS for nearly 5 years and it costs me on average around £2k a year. That breaks down over a 3 year period as £1k for two regular services and £3k for a cambelt change plus a few hundred pounds for “things we found when we were in there”. TBH I don’t think that’s too bad as a couple of friends have 993’s and they tell me their annual running costs are similar.
Great story and car. It's definitely true that goals make you work harder / differently. On a lesser level I've owned my M140i (hardly a Ferrari I know) for three years now, but to me it's a dream come true that I thought I never could afford before I went self employed. I can't imagine what it must have been like to pull the trigger on a brand new Ferrari! Well done mate!

It’s definitely still worth near the price you payed for it… one owner full history and absolutely pristine condition and sounds marvellous… for me the 355 is in the top 5 Ferrari’s ever made!
Great story, great bloke and a great car too! Still the only Ferrari I have ever driven (I'm a Porsche guy) and given the lottery win, the only Ferrari I would buy!
Last of the sublime Ferrari V8s (okay, I am biased) But it is TRUE! Haha My journey to mine was buying classics and the passing of my mother. Yeah. Nice car. I've only got an old Porsche 911 turbo (930), which I bought when I was 28. (Let's just say it wasn't the best part of £100k! Though probably spent that, inflation adjusted, keeping the thing on the road 😉)
Brilliant cars. I hired one for a weekend trip to Dorset back in 2003 and loved apart from the steering which was a bit light and lacking in feel. The airbag steering wheel on the 355 a bit ugly but many early airbag steering wheels were.
These stories are great, thanks 👍🏻 I wish I had kept cars longer! Only had my 675LT 4.5 years but had my MX5, 11 years. Strange Mikes storey about a flat in Sutton as I was living in a flat in Sutton at around the same time and spent all my money on a brand new Elise! I remember having a 'race' with an F355 at the time, which of course I lost but was great fun. I did eventually own an F355 GTS manaul but mine was unfortunately a maintenance nightmare and cost me around £5k pa, not £1k. Great looking and sounding cars but I wouldn't have another. I made the mistake of using it! 😅
Ooooh 675LT! Yeah maybe should’ve kept that, what a car. I had an Elise too, great cars. I wonder if it was Mike’s 355 you raced back in Sutton. Glad you enjoyed the episode.
can you do this with a testarossa and say what modifications one should do if one was to build a similar looking car but today! I want a car like a testarossa or a 348 but modern
I had a manual Giallo Fly yellow 355 GTS, I loved it but it wasn’t very reliable, I traded at Marrenello Egham for a new red 360 Modena and again reliability was an issue so I deserted the Ferrari stable and went to Mercedes and got in the AMG range, I’ve not looked back with regards reliability.
Firstly, it's 28 years old.Secondly, cost 3 times his flat. Coming in third, the registration number is not only illegally spaced but it very likely to be read as MIK6Y, rather than M1KGY.
@@DriversKeepers I think I've just pointed out how incapable you are of keeping up with what you've been tolled and then, gossiping about it with your mate, in the victims car!! The car registration is a very important issue, which many people, such as yourselves, ignore, at our peril!! So, to sum up, you are a very bad source of information and I, without even trying, find flippant flaws. There are more, I'm sure. So, when you are incapable of disseminating and controlling information, in an arena that is totally under your control, you should be shooting yourself and not the messenger. You've managed to do that, in your foot/feet, by the nature of your reply. Thanks..
And some blokes who know how to use it! 🤣 We aren’t earning anything from TH-cam yet so every episode costs us money, which is fine we love doing it. Maybe upgrade the kit when we are sure that we have something that enough people enjoy.
Probably because it didn’t come out of the factory like that. Nor did mine and I prefer it like that. Wouldn’t say no to swapping my steering wheel for a non airbag version but there’s a lot to be said for keeping things original.
Congrats to your great car - a piece of life. I had my F355 GTS 95/2.7 now just for 15 years - and hope to hold him forever...

Firstly, it's 28 years old.Secondly, cost 3 times his flat. Coming in third, the registration number is not only illegally spaced but it very likely to be read as MIK6Y, rather than M1KGY.
Wow, full on pedant! Good for you! 😂
Thanks..
One car guy 😅😅😅
Stunning. Dreadful plate though it must be said 😂
Cheeky not dreadful surely! 😂
@@DriversKeepers Illegal and misleading!!
Brilliant! Who needs EVs? These cars are classics. Anyone seen a Tesla Roadster in as good a nic, and sounds so GOOOOOOOOOD? No, they're crap!
😂
I want a 348 and a 355….just to be clear
Blk 348 spyder and a 🤔🤔🤔silver 355
Great choices 😍
Love the bloke having a piss 😂😂😂
Where?
It wasn't clear, did he buy it brand new? Is he the first owner? The gentlemen driving said it's over 30 years old, so he bought it used?
Yes he bought it from the main dealer as a used but nearly new car.
It's 28 years old, this month. The inability to state facts is worrying, to sale the least. Yes, it cost more than his flat, 3 times!!
Some new camera gear and this channel will be sorted.
And some blokes who know how to use it! 🤣 We aren’t earning anything from TH-cam yet so every episode costs us money, which is fine we love doing it. Maybe upgrade the kit when we are sure that we have something that enough people enjoy.
2 grand a month in 1997 was a lot lol
F355…
Probably 27 clutches
Forgot to ask 🤦♂ I think if it was that bad Mike would've mentioned it though!
not even a challenege grill on it
And all the better for that!
Probably because it didn’t come out of the factory like that. Nor did mine and I prefer it like that. Wouldn’t say no to swapping my steering wheel for a non airbag version but there’s a lot to be said for keeping things original.
Heaps of shit compared to newer cars I had 2 355s I no
Anyone who tries to modify a number plate like that is just a jerk, ferrari or no ferrari.Oh,financial advisor, that says it all.
Wow! That’s a bit harsh 😂
@@DriversKeepers Maybe,but true.
