      i bought one and did my own testing as well. They break square, not very sharp at all. the real upside us the shattering plastic acts as a dampener. Even if you smash a tree with all your might, you dont feel a thing

    • @sigspearthumb3904
      @sigspearthumb3904 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I didn't, plastic is very dense and unless they form it the right way it usually breaks easily if substantial force is used. If you wanted an alternative to plastic than polymer would definitely do the trick. But I'm unsure if they actually make polymer knuckles.

    • @e.zponder7526
      @e.zponder7526 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Polymer is a much vaguer term than plastic. A plastic is a type of synthesized polymer, namely with the characteristic of plasticity.

      Compare that to the damage of using an actually good weapon, which shatters the entire skull, or cuts it in half.

    • @classicfrog80
      @classicfrog80 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Please do tell me where I can find knuckles that would cut someone's skull in half or at the very least shatters the whole of it.
      Or did you mean any weapon? But if so, why limit yourself to melee weapons? Go big!
      "Compare that to the damage of Tsar Bomb, which shatters whole countries, or cuts them in half."
      There, I fixed it for you.

    • @lughfiregod16
      @lughfiregod16 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If you'd like to be fair about it, compare it to other melee weapons you can conceal on your person. Such as a good knife, or extendable baton.

    • @classicfrog80
      @classicfrog80 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But why not comparing plastic knuckles to metal ones? Otherwise you could compare them to anything you can conceal, like a gun, for example, or even a glass bottle of soda, which you can break and use as a shiv.
      Now, if we actually do compare plastic ones to metal ones, you won't do much more damage in a single blow with metal knuckles compared to plastic ones. And honestly, if you whacked someone in the head hard enough to break your plastic knuckles, he's not going to be causing you any problems any more. With the only downside being the loss of your knuckles, hence the key word "reasonably". Also, if you carry them for self defence, you won't need to use them very often. So having them as one-use item, provided you actually do connect a powerful hit to the head, but with advantage of being perfectly legal to carry (as far as the law is concerned in Canada) seems to be rather reasonably cost effective as well.

  • @Gunnar_Konig
    @Gunnar_Konig 8 ปีที่แล้ว +58

    Plastic breaking is dangerous.
    Way back when I was younger I bought one of those hand training things made of plastic. Very first time I squeezed it one of the handles broke and left a stump in a pointy shape with sharp edges. Since it was no longer held by the detached handle in my hand, the stump proceeded to scrape along my hand, cut the "empty" skin between the index finger and the thumb and left a fairly deep and jagged cut all over that area.
    Not pleasant at all. Took me a while before I felt like trying hand trainers again and when I did I got a much higher quality one with a different mechanism which I still have. Even if it breaks, it will do so in a different spot away from my hands, not the handles.

    • @Gunnar_Konig
      @Gunnar_Konig 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      AlexEinherjar It had a "metal coil" attached to two plastic handles.
      I'm not sure if "spring" is still the right word for that? It's a metal tube that circled on itself several times and with the handles created a "V" shape.
      The new one I have now has an "A" shape and has an actual spring.

    • @AlexEinherjar
      @AlexEinherjar 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, it's a coil actually. English isn't my first language, so I confused the words. I bought one of those ProHands exercisers, they're great, if you have an opportunity, I think you should give them a try. I need to buy one of those like you have to get a more complete training.

    You know they're lying about that "same density as a human head" bullshit, right? The guys from Zombiegoboom are just some random dudes who make those things out of cheap PVC and foam-rubber in their bathtub and say that it's like a real skull, when in reality; if you've ever seen a pig skull being smashed or any other kind or real flesh or bone being sliced or bludgeoned you'd know that it reacts VERY differently to the way these supposedly 'anatomically correct' heads behave. It's just a marketing gimmick to fool suckers into paying $300 for some cheap fake zombie heads.

      Creature Plays Games Yes, and it also injures the users hand.
      A weapon that injures it's user after every strike is useless. Defeats the whole purpose.
      Besides, being limited to use only hammer fist is very limiting. Then you might as well use one of those batons made of metal that you hold in the hand and use with that technique. Don't remember what they are called but they are legal in Canada as far as I know.

    • @Gakulon
      @Gakulon 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes, but it wasn't useless. Even the plastic knuckles weren't useless, as they'd be a decent deterrent to an attacker

    • @jamessarvan7692
      @jamessarvan7692 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Creature Plays Games They are useless as a self defense weapon since pretty much any other real weapon can be used with more effectivness, and even a lot of things that aren't even weapons work better.

    • @jamessarvan7692
      @jamessarvan7692 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      *****
      A weapon that is worse than pretty much all other weapons in every way IS useless. Also, what good is a self defense weapon that breaks after the first strike? Then you might as well use a better weapon that actually will last?
      What do you mean where I got it from? He said it himself, that it really hurt his wrist and that he might see it causing serious injury after a couple of strikes.
      A self defense weapon that breaks after the first strike, and also causes pain to the person it is supposed to protect IS useless. It might get you killed instead. It's much better to use a weapon that actually works.

    As teenagers, we just used a roll of nickels. It reinforced the hand nicely. Could hit a tree nearly full force with that, and it adds momentum too.
    I also modified my keychain to make 4 rings with keys protruding between each finger. Comfortable and mean, but I wouldn't hit a hard surface with it - the keys would get driven into my hand. Save that for body shots and facial lacerations.

    I have a boxer's fracture on my right hand. Learning how to properly throw a punch by studying traditional Japanese Jiujitsu, which is meant to be mainly anti armor combat oriented martial art, taught me how to properly throw a punch, stepping in, and twisting your arm so it's rigid and also orients your striking knuckles properly forward. I also have floppy wrists, so a lot of the training I focused on was to practice proper technique against a 235lb heavy bag. I should have used my wrist wraps if I was going to do it without a padded gauntlet or mma gloves which I had, but it was more important to learn how to tense up the critical areas in the strike to prevent injury. Using knuckles might be preferable for me since I favor the tiger paw strike

    • @bloodsports94
      @bloodsports94 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jiu Jitsu is a wrestling art, not a striking art. I don't know why you think that would be a good place to learn how to punch. If you have flippy wrists you need to start punching the heavy bag without gloves. Condition and strengthen your wrists is very important.

    • @nohbdy1122
      @nohbdy1122 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chaos Omega I'm not a fan of trying to punch the temple or bridge of the nose(some people recommend that as well) because there's a very small margin of error before you hit a hard part of the skull which is likely to happen if the other person winces reflexively before impact. Palms and elbows behind the ear are good as well though

    • @chaos_omega
      @chaos_omega 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The nose I would avoid. But if you can do Russian "casting" style hook punches, the temple is a more viable target (hitting it with the first one or two knuckles and having the pinkie facing upward.) Harder to break your hand that way.

    When I was shown how to use these, I was told not to over commit by throwing big straight shots, which are likely to cause you some pain even with a well designed unit. I was told the concentrated impact would be felt even with a short jab, and that it was better to deliver a rapid succession of short blows with a bent arm, in a kind of pawing motion, like knocking on a door. It allows better control and dexterity to avoid getting your arm caught (if your opponent hasn’t fled, he’ll be focused on neutralising that arm and what you have in your hand.)

      False. I own three pairs of actual "brass knuckles" and
      If you line them up on your upper knuckles/in the middle of your upper knuckles you will break your fingers. You want to line them up with your lower knuckles so all the force of the dusters are put into your palm, and not your fingers. Many people have made videos demonstrating this.

    makes sense.. it's more about focusing all the energy to a single point.. so even if the material isn't as strong it will be more damaging that way. the drawback is that you have to be more accurate with your strike. interestingly in martial arts this is why (in say karate) you are taught to punch only by striking with the first two knuckles of the fist. you have to be more accurate with this because it's less powerful than like a boxing haymaker; but again that's why you train to be super accurate with your hits(i.e. hit directly in the nose or the diaphragm). hitting with the first 2 knuckles and with your wrist straight also makes your hand less likely to break without gloves.

  • @keihinherault9577
    @keihinherault9577 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm no expert, but it was my understanding that in bare knuckle boxing, you want to land punches on the middle, ring and baby knuckle. With a slight angle in the fist, they line up directly down your arm, making a solid punch

    • @bloodsports94

    1:34 it's actually not. I am currently reading a book about bare knuckle boxing written by several masters of the art of unarmed hema. it talks about many different historic masters and all of the say something along the lines of the following: "To punch consistently without breaking your knuckles; clench the fist without tightening the forearm to the point of restriction of movement. Aim with the ring finger and hit with the flat part of the fist with the pinky, ring and middle finger so the force is distributed over the largest area possible." I just wanted to point that out.
