I'm seeing this late, so probably the case is over, but this is what I was taught to do (my court is in 2 days). Request a continuance for time to do a public records request. Request body camera footage, dash camera footage, all officer records and notes of the stop/incident, and any intersection cameras in the area. Call the gas station and request their footage (they might not release it to you though). Find out format your court needs the video to be in and put all footage-including yours- in that format (I think most nowadays want a flash drive). Check the department policy manual (should be online or public records request it. Photo your plate to show it was readable (check the law in your state to confirm the distance it needs to be readable from). Go through all the information carefully; you have the cop admitting he gave you the ticket because you didn't ID someone, not because of a violation on your part. He may also have violated policy on some points, (which I found to be the case with my incident), and that adds to Your credibility.

You handled that very cool. The gas station was not the venue to get into an argument. Definitely consult an attorney for this. I might've even taken the camera to get a view from behind to show how the plate was displayed, that way your attorney can advise you. It's a good thing you got him on camera saying, essentially, "Since you're not going to give me the name of the other guy, you're going to get the ticket." I'm very pro-law enforcement, but if I were going to fight that, I would argue that there was no pretext or reasonable suspicion for the officer to initiate a traffic stop.
He came over to ask you about the other guy, then decided to look at your plate, which I would argue is "Fruit of the poisonous tree" (Legal term) In this case, he discovered your plate, as a result of approaching you to find out about the other rider.
Keep us posted about how it turns out.

That's just a part of it. My viewers didn't watch my full length content anymore. Algorithm changed. Whether you still watched or not, 95% of my viewers no longer did. So again you have to adjust and roll with the punches. Now I'm back up to probably the most viewed moto channel on TH-cam from making those changes.

What's crazy is the fact that you told the first cop not once but twice that you didn't know that dude and the other cop once that you didn't know that dude and the first cop was still like, I would've let you go if you told me what your buddy's name is. There are both asswholes, and you didn't deserve that ticket.

I see a lot of cops (I am one) try to pin what other bikers do to the one that stops.
I’ve been pulled over numerous times for plate violations (aftermarket screws stripped and won’t hold the plate). No cops I’ve ran into before telling them I was a cop was an ass and that’s with me going above the speed limit.
Some cops form personal vendettas for the smallest infraction, it’s pretty funny.

This makes me not want to take for granted the cops in NZ 😅 no way this would happen here...
If anything they'd come up and talk to you as this guy did. But if you co operate which you did and say you had no idea who the person was they don't speculate on it at all. But they will NEVER take your license unless they have lit YOU up or you happen to be at a cop stop (license, warrant of fitness, registration and alcohol checks) if the officer has noticed something about your vehicle or bike they will simply give a verbal warning. If its something that is a genuine safety concern they will give you a ticket yes but probably not something as horrific if they actually pulled you over and they will say you will have to abandon said bike or vehicle and either they will take you home or eait with you until you get picked up as well as wait while your bike or vehicle gets picked up too.
I haven't personally been someone whose been approached/pulled over for a vehicle of mine or they way I drive YET 😅 but I have been a passenger/pillian or around when things like this have happened and its shocking to see the power abuse cops have in other countries.
Please report the guy. I would have asked why a simple question he had turned into a ticket for you, and I would have asked for his ID. I would have found out what police station he worked for and taken the info and video evidence with me and showed it to them and queried the ticket. Thats a straight up bully.

Dude....silly imo to just pay that ticket. It was an easy win in court for so many reasons. One, he stopped you in a gas station. 2 it was a retaliation ticket because you don't know every other biker on the road. 3 because in your picture you had it well enough unless your state has some sort of regulation for angle to ground which would be very difficult for them to prove especially for some bikes where angle would be changing while riding. Fight the tyranny

Yes, that something is their license plate. They don't display it so that if they decide to run from the cops, the cops won't have been able to positively identify them. And if they decide to pull over, they usually have it attached or stored somewhere and a lot of cops are going to be so thrilled that the biker didn't run, they'll overlook the improper display.

Hard to write a ticket for a moving violation when you're parked at a gas pump on private property.
Want to see them explain to you the difference real quick and dodge their duty? Get into an "incident" in a private parking lot. You'll learn all about "incidents" and "accidents" and the differences in hitting or behind hit on a public roadway and on private property- like in a parking lot.
That ticket was absolutely retaliatory, and unless you were on a public roadway, I'd 100 percent contest that. Most likely a DA will throw it out before bringing it before a judge.
