I've been on the keto diet for almost a year. I found that an eating window from 11 to 3 works for me. I feel my best when I stop eating by that time. Thanks to this video now I know why. I'm up at 4 in the morning so my 12-hour fasting window would be 3 to 3. Very helpful information. Please put this info in the book!!
I did too. I found that allowing time for the body to adapt works, but also exercise is super important. If you're insulin resistant then you will still have high bs even on low carb or keto because the liver will still make glucose out of amino acids. This will slow down the deeper you go into ketosis but, while that happens, insulin resistances will keep your bs high. Cardio exercise like walking or biking and resistance training in the 8 to 12 rep range will greatly and significantly improve insulin resistance, however, the kind of intensity that's required to have that significant effect requires ingesting a number a carbs in order to fuel that kind of workout. As long as you workout at that intensity, those carbs won't take you out of ketosis and you'll end up with significantly less insulin resistance. My fasted bs would stay around 150 to 160 but when I added cardio and higher rep resistance training it went down to 100 to 110 and this was ingesting 50 grams of carbs pre work out and maybe another 30 post on workout days. I would stay under 20 on off days.
@@elcapitanian numerous studies conclusively establish that carb ingestion is NOT necessary to perform anaerobic (high intensity) workouts. See e.g. Stephen Phinney MD and Shawn Baker MD.
@@elcapitanian some drs online say its cause fasting clears it from the blood then starts to clear it from the organs which dump it from the organs. It looks bad but is a good thing I'm told.
Such helpful information. I have never had an issue with my sugar (and I’m 52) but diabetes runs in my family. I am a little over 2 weeks into my transition to Keto lifestyle and started checking my ketones and glucose. I started to freak out because my glucose numbers have been between 100-118 after “fasting” for over 15 hours. Good to know that it is most likely from stored sugars. I love the advice you gave about NOT testing glucose for about 6-8 weeks after starting this lifestyle. I have put my monitor away! Thank you!
Dr Boz I am 79 2 years TRYING to go Keto lost 40 lbs but still on some meds for diabetes from 13 to 1 2mg pill which I have now cut in 1/2 when over 7( 126) for quick reduction .love your book have bought several for friends here in Canada and overseas got your recommended cook book by your patient it is the only one I have found with macro's it's super. This helped me a lot! Eating keto for two months with fasting glucose levels coming in 95 - 102. Cannot seem to get it lower. Wake up is usually 5:30 to 6:00 so will work on finishing my dinner before 5:00. Wish me luck! Thank you!
Since I started the Keto my blood sugar has only increased. I was consistently 103 - 110 for the past few years. About a month ago I stopped eating sugar and started this high fat keto diet and it's not spiking at 120 every morning. I can honestly say I am not a fan of the keto diet at all. I wish you luck and hope you get yours under control.
I just ordered the Dr Seyfried book yesterday as well. I had cancer 4 years ago and am going into my own therapy to help prevent reoccurrence. Your information gives me confidence I am on the right track.
I am into the keto diet 6 weeks. Been doing one meal a day most days. About 7 hours away from finishing a 48 hr fast. I have lost about 30 lbs so far. I need to lose another 60 lbs to get to 180 lbs. Diagnose type two diabetic about a year ago. I want to reverse that. You are one of several people I follow. Thanks Doc.
I am from Toronto Canada, asian female age 42, and I hv been suffering from high blood pressure and OA. I started the keto diet 5 months ago and it helped tremondouly on my both issues, but just not loosing weight. I've read your book Anyway You Can, but only recently I learn from your video about the dr Boz ratio. Yes it would be good if you can have more this info in your new book. I now realize my ratio is around 100 to 120 post meal, and would take up to 15 hours to bring down the BG but I would have started eating again. No wonder I have not been loosing weight.
For me this chapter is the most important lesson tying together several key elements as I have only watched the videos and not read your book. In my case I ‘ve been on a ketogenic diet for for 6 weeks, intermittent fasting 2x per week, lost over 20 lbs, withdrawn from sugar, restricted carbs and feel great. Morning bs continue to be an issue down from the high 200’s to the low 200’s. So here’s. what I learned: 1) Spend the money and get a meter. 2) Work towards the ratio. 3) Change my eating window, I’m awake by 6 but eat late 7:38 to 8. 4) buy the book. I’ll make those adjustments and see
I started into Keto cold turkey. Cut my carbs and sugar. I had been dealing with hypoglycemia attacks way too often which is why I started Keto and IF in the first place. However, I wasn't prepared and didn't realize my hypoglycemia would get worse at the beginning. I later learned to reach for protein rather than sugar to bring my levels back to a balance I could handle. That was scary. Sure glad I'm over that hump! Thanks for your compassion in helpful people live healthy lives! 🙏🏻
This seriously helped me! I knew something was up with my blood sugar.. I haven't felt energetic and euphoric on keto in awhile and I KNEW it had to be my blood sugar! I'm eating too late.
Yes, this was helpful, do include it. The visuals are especially good. Good to know how ranges of glucose/ketones have an impact and what that is. Albeit better understood for those who are firmly on the journey. I’ll use this info and your ratio. I cannot thank you enough for your dedication and efforts for the greater good. On to greater ketones!!!!
I'm elated to have found your channel. Hands down, the BEST information I've EVER found on Keto chemistry and how to understand what is going on in my body. I'm finally learning how to take control of my pcos and insulin resistance. Thank you!
This was one of the most helpful videos I’ve seen and addressed an issue I had this morning with a high BG # while fasting. Thanks so much for the info, I’ll be reading your book!
Quick fix Dr. Boz. 2 quarts of water with a little apple cider vinegar within the next couple of hours. I'm still working the ketogenic diet with your beginner grocery list. I really like it. Beef bone broth is my favorite. My only treat food now are potatoes. Looking to replace them by the end of this month. Thanks to the continued support from all your videos I was able to fast 100 hours last week. I never gave fasting a second thought until I heard you talking about about it and your phone froze. At the time for a moment I thought my phone stop working. It was the first video of yours that I had seen. My focus went from half throttle listening to Full Throttle listening immediately. I was like wow how did that happen. I believe it's a gift that you have. I am thankful for all your videos and your continued focus with helping everyone improve their overall health. JP
Jack Pepper try replacing potato in recipes with cooked radishes. I don’t even like raw radishes but they are a good mock potato in soup and I heard with roast beef.
Another top notch episode, especially as a Type 1 Diabetic. I started Keto about 4 weeks ago and great results so far. Insulin down from 75 to 20, ketone level always between 3.5 and 4.0, 36 hour fast was great, and lost 11 pounds and 2 inches from stomach. Your videos are informative and inspirational! Thanks so much!
This is helpful. Especially that you mentioned don’t let net carbs fool you. I lost 65 pounds in eight months normalized my cholesterol, Went from couch potato to warehouse worker. At my job, I walked 6 1/2 to 8 1/2 miles, With one and a half to 2 1/2 hours in cardio each day five days a week for a year and a half. During that time I stopped losing weight, but I went from a size 20 to a 14 comfortably. I started protein meal bars with low net carbs. I now believe that if the fiber is not naturally generated within a food, that fiber will not stop you from absorbing the sugars. Someone said think of throwing flaxseed into orange juice. Would you believe that orange juice is now keto safe to drink? And for the life of me, I don’t know why it is that I really cannot have any artificial sugars either. I am game to fix what I broke. I naturally only eat one meal a day now, but I used to eat a big breakfast and a dinner. Now that you’ve mentioned breakfast and coffee and breaking a fast, since I love my coffee, I will go back to eating my big breakfast with my coffee so I won’t be ruining my fast just to enjoy coffee. Thanks for all the info.
Incredibly helpful and should definitely be included in your new book. This was the first major question I ran into during my keto diet. I followed your guidelines for measuring my blood glucose and ketones, so naturally my first question is, “why is my blood glucose still high?” This Video was super helpful.
I absolutely love the information in this video and plan to implement it immediately since I have been struggling with higher than optimal glucose levels. In the video, you explain that stored Glycogen is released from the liver. Will the stored Glycogen ever deplete from the Liver and if so, how is this accomplished without interfering with weight loss and burning it off?
Dr. Boz THANK YOU! I love the videos, I have listened to your book on Audible and purchased several copies for friends and family. I feel that I am fairly fluent in the ways of being Ketogenic but your videos always seem to give me a new piece of information or help to enhance my current understandings. Thank for spending the time to do these videos! Can’t wait for the new book!
Great video. Great information. Very easy to to you understand. The charts are very helpful. I’m one of those individuals that cannot get my sugar low or ketones high. Even when I fast. I have been doing keto for 15 months. Starting to increase my fasting time trying to get my numbers better. Even though my numbers are not that great I have lost 75 pounds. Morning sugars are usually 95 - 99 and ketones .5. If I fast 20 hours I can get my sugar down to about 90 and ketones about 1.1. Thank you so much for your videos they are great. I am learning so much.
Wow! This video is packed with great information. I loved learning about your recommended timeline from beginner to a faster. The circadian rhythm and eating window is tough.... I would love to hear how regular people with jobs and a commute manage. I already know that my husband will have a fit! Too bad that Americans do not have the two hour mid-day meal so famous in Europe. As, you may have guessed, this pre-circadian fasting window is my bugaboo! I have jumped forward to fasting as Dr. Boz does not recommend, and I have never measured my numbers..... so much to learn! Thank you, Dr. Boz, for what you do.
I bought your first book and will buy the second. I am following about 3 doctors including you. watching TH-cam and reading their books.I and wife have been doing this diet for about 8 weeks. We both are fat and type two diabetic. I have lost about 33 lb and the wife about 25 lbs so far. The wife needs to lose about 125 lbs more and I need to lose about 63 lbs more. My blood pressure is way down already and dropped two medicines. It use to run 175/90. Now it is around 120-100/70-50 . And some times even a lower.I am watching this closely. My blood sugars are dropping. Fasting was about 156 mg/dL at the start of this diet. This afternoon they were 103 mg/dL. I was at the end of a 48 hour fast. My ketones were 1.8 mmoles. Last week 2 day fast they were 122 mg/ dL and 2.6 mmoles ketones. The wife saw little color on her urine strip and panic until I checked her blood. She was at 2.8 mmoles ketones. Thanks to your book I realize her body is fat adapted and not peeing ketones much. I am please my fasting sugars are going down. Your book and your videos are a big help. I wish I had known this in my earlier life. But senior citizen or not it is not to late to fix a lot of my health issues. I would like more information on fasting. I want to try a three day fast next week. Maybe a week long one after I see my primary doctor and get his ok. I hope this comment helps you write your new book. Thanks again.
Yes, this information is super important please include this information in your book. I am on keto I am fasting, running, lifting weights and my sugar is still high!!!
I am 4 days in. Nothing measured yet. I feel a big difference already in inflammation. I love this episode. It helped me understand so much more. However, I am not ready to explain it to others. Great info. Thank you.
The idea of this ratio is completely new to me, and I definitely think this should be included in your second book. I'm learning so much from this video! Thanks
Please cover how our blood pressure goes up during fasting. Also how to deal with the insomnia from fasting. Also how to cope with leg cramps during fasting. I didn't have issues with these areas during month 2 thru month 7. Once I started 24 and 48 hour fasts all these issues plague me. I get plenty of good salt, good fats, good healthy homemade foods, avocados, low carb, plenty of good magnesium. So need better sleep. I'm 53 and have loss 53lbs so far, but I don't loose when my sleep isn't good even if my doc boz ratio is under 60 for over a week.
Yes, insomnia during fasting is common (due to increase in nor/epinephrine?) but unhelpful because it's a stressor that puts cortisol up, which puts glucose up ... I've looked through all your vids on sleep and fasting but can't find any acknowledgement of this
Yes very good info for someone new just starting Keto needs to be in the next book. I've been living this way for nearly two years now and will never go back to my old ways but at the very start the high BG was worrying and it took me a long time to peace all the information together that you just covered here to what was going on. You have put it all together in an easy to follow way for people. If someone's starting keto without this information and keeps getting high BG reading it's easy for other non keto eater's to convince them what they're doing is dangerous. Thanks Dr Boz your doing a good thing here.
Today is my first day on the keto diet. Thank you Dr. Boz for your teachings. You make it so informative and you are a breeze to listen to. Wish me luck. I will do my first fast once I get used to the keto diet.
@ Carolyn-That’s a good start. I started of with the Keto in mid Feb, and moved right into 16/8 & 24-IF/OMAD after 2wks and have lost 30lbs. Now, I do 24 & 36hrs fasting every other week, but still stick to the Keto menu. I feel so much better, my arthritis knee pain is almost gone, almost off of my blood pressure meds. It’s an awesome feeling. Now, I eat to live, a lifestyle way of eating from now on. Much luck to you on your new journey (Keto)
Wow! I needed that lesson. I was wondering why my fasting glucose was staying elevated in the morning after fasting. Now I get it! Also my Dr Boz ratio was 76 so I’m in the weight loss zone. That was very informative and I wanted to thank you for doing that video!
Okay, so... if I can maintain a FBS below 100, then as I enter ketosis, I can be encouraged in knowing I am in "THE ZONE" for weight loss to occur... that makes me feel more empowered, then, to add activity, maintain low carb eating, etc., and be more CONSCIOUS about my choices!! I LOVE YOUR GRAPH!!
this Dr Boz ratio is going to go places young lady. I bought and enjoyed the book. I think you should include the info in the next book, and the way you present it is perfect. Thank you.
Dr Boz is so beautiful! Every time I see you, my blood pressure and glucose go down and my ketones go up to the roof ! 😁😁😁thanks for all you do . You are the greatest!
My name is Laura I'm 52 I'm disabled I live in Southern California I ordered your book and am waiting for it to be delivered I think it's supposed to arrive this week I'm so excited to get it because I have ADHD it's hard for me to read and comprehend but I'm gonna make it a point to read this book even if I have to read it slowly I have been on keto for 5 weeks I have lost 15 pounds I went down to pant sizes I have 5 doctors my internal medicine doctor hes old and his from Iran I asked him his opinion of the keto diet and he is totally against it big Time I talk to my gastroenterologist and he said hes not against keto but if it's working for me in a like it then go for it because he wants me to lose weight because I have fatty liver that's another thing anyways I love all your videos are starting to watch all the older ones thank you again and I wish you were my internal medicine doctor laura aday southern California
Thanks for all the videos, Dr Boz! This one explained so much. Loved your 1st book and am really looking forward to your 2nd one. It would be great if the book would be available in other languages (german) too. Greetings from Austria, europe!
Hi dr boz. What comment I can make on this podcast. Wow, oh boy, I have have been doing it right, after trawling through the internet getting help from other keto friends, however you have covered it all in this podcast. The initial starting out on a keto way of eating, that was easy, as I was looking to make myself well again, weight was never a real problem. Always wondered if the way I was interpreting the keto way was good. Pleased me to see, I was not far off, for over one and a half years on keto. Just to listen and see your podcast, fills my heart with joy as it encompasses all my doubts if I was doing it correctly. Although I don’t need a crutch, as I can see and feel the changes, almost day on day, it’s still good to see it covered so well. Thank you DrBoz can’t wait to see the podcast on future ideas as outlined in this podcast.
Thank you so much for these videos!! I am fascinated by IF and Keto and pray that it will change personal health! I have lost 30 lbs since last April and continuing to lose weight and most importantly continuing to heal my body. We are on a tight budget right now but as soon as I can afford it I’m going to get your book, ketone blood meter and some BHB. I’ve have a glucose meter but really want to see what my Dr. Boz ratio is. I’m trying to be an example to my kids and husband and I’m very slowly getting through to them :) This video was super informative and I think it should go in your future book 😊
This is a great topic and I would LOVE for it to be in the book so we have a "go-to" explanation as to why blood sugars remain, or fluctuate high, especially in the morning (that dang "dawn effect"). Thank you Dr Boz - love your info, it's life changing! XO
I love your videos. I am a nurse practitioner and find your videos super helpful to myself and clients struggling with their health. You take the time to explain the science understandably and address key issues and questions in an engaging and authentic manner. Thanks!
I am certain you helped me improve my health with more than 1 ketone at a time Dr. Boz. Amazing even on a holiday weekend. Wish you and your family the best. JP
I’m waiting a bit to do a fast until I get this KETO thing figured out. But then I’ll be joining you on Sunday nights! I sure wish I had known Lachlan was coming to KC! I’m only 50 miles from there! I would have loved to met her and given her a big Missouri bear hug. 🤗
The Doctor Boz ratio changed my life after being Keto since July of 2018. I am diabetic with no medication and knowing there is a number I can aim for - that's life-changing for me. I know how to lose weight again (stalled but steady) thank you and the healing has been important for me too. I have fasted 20 hours but not yet 36. You are getting me ready for that mentally! = ))
I found this helpful. I have been on the ketogenic diet since the first week of Jan 2019 til now with a loss of 26 lbs.. I am overjoyed for those who lose a tremendous amount of weight in a short time; however, it was somewhat discouraging to me when I knew I was doing everything right other than not getting sleep which is my big problem. I I had not cheated. Fasted 1x for 4 days and have done 2 or 3 three day fasts. Plus I try to hold to the 12 hr daily fast.....most of the time. I could not seem to get BS down. THEN you taught about the glycogen. I think the past few days my body has used up all (or most) of the old stored sugar. Numbers have been awesome along with the ratio....49% yesterday and in the 40s again today. I am a diabetic ( no meds) and had carried the weight for years. It took me all this time to start getting the numbers I wanted/needed. Now I am at the edge of where I want to "hang" ...autophagy. Dr Boz, can we clone you?? So if you are having high BS and ratio is not where it needs to be..HANG ON. Even though I have many pounds to go I know I will make it "one ketone at a time". Thank you, Dr Boz. I feel that the Lord lead me to you, because even though I did not like carrying the weight, it bothered me spiritually.
That's great that you broke the high bg. Hang in there. I was soooooo "right-on" from Jan to May. Since Mother's Day I have had a few days that I have cheated, not badly, but my body does not deal with cheating....lol . I don't deal well with sugar free foods.
I’ve been diabetic on insulin for 10+ years. Been on Keto about 3mos, and lost 22lbs. My problem is knowing whether to use insulin while fasting, because even after 24hrs., my fasting is 150 or more. Injecting insulin kills my ketones. Very frustrating!
Awesome video. I like the slides and teaching format. To the point. Had a tough time finding the info on the ratio I've seen you mention in other videos. This was it!
This is my second time to start a keto diet. The first time around (Jan-Mar 2019) it seemed that I was able to lower my glucose pretty quickly, but this time around (Feb 16 2020) it has been harder. I assume I am insulin resistance because of 50 plus years of carb overload, so I know I need to be patient. I do check my blood glucose and blood ketones daily...this helps me to know how I doing on better health. This video was very helpful. I wrote down some notes of numbers I need to shot for. Thank you. I enjoyed your first book and am looking forward to reading your second book.
I was sorry that Lachlan’s voice was muted, and sharing your story is so inspiring! Many of us don’t know about type 1 diabetes and people without gallbladders for both a Keto diet and fasting. Thank you. I look forward to learning more.
Great information , I bought and read your book but I don't remember reading about focusing on the Circadian Rhythm to set the time of the last meal. I'm going to pay more attention to that. I look forward to reading your next book.
Dear Dr Boz I am so thankful for you educating the public thru your videos. I recommend your book and videos to everyone. I have found this video very helpful with the 12 hour fast and cercadium rythym. I have been doing 16 hour fasts, I get up at 430 that means no food after 330. That is new to my understanding of intermittent fasting. I am going to try it. Also, my brother has had lupas for years. And just had bladder cancer, no treatment yet. He thinks making his immune system better is bad because of lupas. His wife has SUSAC, very rare disease. Can you do videos on that type of immune system? Thank you, you are a blessing to our world.
Monday Morning followup... 9 PM Sunday BS was 95. 7 AM Monday morning BS is 131. Intellectually, I understand it is cortisol and gluconeogenesis from the liver, but emotionally, it is disheartening to have a BS of 131 at 36 hours of fasting. Fast continues...@@DoctorBoz
@ Steve If you've been "keto" for a while use your mid afternoon blood sugar as your "fasting" level. My morning readings are typically 108 to 110 while mid afternoon are in the 80's.
Yes include a chapter on this in your new book I struggle with high blood glucose in the morning. I water fasted 60 hours and had 112 blood glucose today
I have been living the ketogenic lifestyle since Feb '18 and have lost 60 lbs and my vision improved significantly according to my optician! Before, he would fill my prescription, he had me go to GP to have an A1C done. My results are 5.4! I now wonder if I may have been diabetic and didn't even know... I have 30 more lbs. to go... I have been at a plateau for about a month now... I will keep, keeping on!!
Hi Dr.Boz! Thank you so much for this information. I am 4 weeks in to monitoring and my Dr.Boz ratio is consistently under 80 for the past 2 weeks.😊 Thank you for explaining why my sugars are in the 90's in the morning. I still must have a lot in my liver! That being said I am eating one meal a day, usually around 4 ish and for the last 3 weeks I have completed an extended fast of 48 hours each week and I am feeling great! Again, Thank you for this valuable information!😊❤
Thanks sooo much for this lesson! It’s really an eye opener ❤️ I have been struggling with diabetes type 2 and all the complications that go with it for such a long time. This is really giving me the tools to fix my health! Thanks!!! Love your channel and I can’t wait for your second book!
Dr Jason Fung is all over this subject, i love Dr Boz, but Fung brings this to another level and this is what he does for a living, studies insulin and deals with diabetes. Good info here, but a little better with Fung. Diabetes is NOT a progressive disease whatsoever, unless left untreated for too long.
Definitely include this info in a chapter- very enlightening and helpful! After following Keto for 9 months without substantial weight loss (down 15 pounds, want to lose 20-25 pounds more), I finally understand basic Keto principles with your clear and fun explanations and examples. I have done a couple 7-day fasts and thought they were torture! Type 2 overweight Hubby has done several (basically fasts 15 days/month but struggles when traveling and under stress but also enjoys and appreciates your book, presentations and info. Thank you!
Yes, it need to be in book. I’ve been on keto since Nov. 2018. Doing fairly good, weight loss is 47 lbs so far. I’m also type II, BG doing better but still 150-175 in am. I liked you’re advise because I want to get BG down. My new (Keto Dr) has taken me off all insulin, still on metformin. Also my BP is running high so I need to get that down also. Thanks for your information & work.
Thank you for your attention to this problem! I am coaching a sweet friend right now and we are having trouble getting her glucose under 90 despite having her total carbs at 10 or less. You have given me some ideas to help her move to the next level.
@@edgardodelgadolebron I am a nurse that has stopped working in the hospital. I was very frustrated that my patients were not getting better. 10 years ago, I found myself on 6 medications and obese. I began studying natural nutrition and thought at that time, why aren't we looking at insulin? I have now fixed my health and no longer require medication! I have stopped working at the hospital to homeschool my children and devote my time to helping others. I run a private FB group and a food addiction group meeting. I am also working on my certification via the Tim Noakes, MD Foundation. Have a great day!
Annalee Haley hi, thank you for your response. The purpouse if my question is because I want to lower my glucose, I’m doing keto since august 19-2019 and my glucose is 160 at afternoon. That’s the reason that I ask what you are doing with your friend.
@@edgardodelgadolebron Ah! Well we are in week 2 and are actually making headway. I changed her macro's and lowered her total carbs to 10, eating all real foods and she agreed to stop snacking. We also pushed her fat intake up to 80 percent. I didn't ask her to limit calories, but brought her protein back down to moderate. I used the method Dr. Boz recommended, using the desired goal weight divided by 2.2. I also started using the Dr. Boz ratio with her and we checked three times/daily. We did this for a week and then found the scale moving and her cravings back under control. This week, we implemented 2 longer fasts for her - up to 24 hours and her blood glucose is beginning to drop. I honestly believe she was spiking her insulin too frequently to move forward. I wish the best for you!
Dr Bos, this is a subject most interesting to me. I'm trying to figure this out. Male, 64 years old, 6'0, maxed at 305 lbs. In 2013 I was diagnosed diabetic with an a1C of 12.3 (ish). I started research, found Dr Fung and started low carb (Keto wasn't a thing back then AFAICR) and IF. I dropped from 305 to 275 and stalled. However with that weight loss, metformin and diet I kept my a1C down in the 6ish range. My doc was happy. (Still) Not interested in supporting low carb or fasting. Sad but true. I had to really "buckle down" to get more weight off. I managed to get down into the 240s but could not keep it there. Up into the mid 260s and down to mid 240s. Too much carbs. I have finally found my own personal answer which is "extreme" fasting combined with extreme keto. As a trucker I have 34 hours in a truck without "social" influences and started doing 36+ hour water only fasts (a trip out and back in my truck) and when eating, fat / protein only. I am now losing again, below 240 for the first time in 20 years. More importantly, steady consistent weight loss. 1 lb every 2 days for the last month. That said, my glucose is still stubbornly high, 90s to 110. It will dip down into the 80s occasionally but for no apparent rhyme or reason. My Ketones tend to be measurable at all times, and often even moderate (1.2+) . My job is pretty high stress and sleep patterns simply non-manageable. I sleep when I can. BTW Ketosis itself seems to cause sleep disruption, the "brain on fire" thing! I'll sleep for 4-5 hours but if I wake up (to pee for example) I can't get back to sleep. So are the sugars simply stress / sleep? Does it matter? I am still losing weight now. So I am working on driving my weight down. I really must get back down to the 180s weight range and get it stable there. I am comfortable that I personally have to do keto level carbs for the rest of my life. Oh well. Keep up the good work Doc. We need more high profile professionals (doctors) willing to put their careers on the line to support the keto / fasting community.
Positively amazing. Please include a chapter in your new book on, why are my sugars so high. I learn something every time you put out a video. Thank you.
I love your videos you have been such a blessing to me. I also trust taking the MCT you sell there are many out there but I know that we can trust what you put out. Thank you
Diabetes is a beastly thing to have how I wish there was a cure because it’s such hard work watching what you eat and worrying about sugar all the time.
Yes excellent lesson, I think this information is very important for people to understand. It’s a bit more advanced but you explain it in a way that makes it easy to understand. I fast and follow a keto diet for my health but my biggest frustration is explaining to my family how important this WOE is for our health. They are carb/sugar addicted and I worry that health issues will arise down the road. They just think I have to do this because I have type 2D but I’m trying to educate them on healthy lifestyle so they can avoid what I have gone thru.
Thanks for another great video Dr. Boz. I have your audio book, loved it and can’t wait for the next! I was wondering, Can you talk about a fat fast and how that works , what it is useful for, etc? Thanks so much!
Yes , I need that chapter. I am keto, carnivirous, Dr. Boz ratio was from 30 to 60. Now, it is above 80 and sugars are running high, 110 to 140. Sugars were 80 to 100. Also caloric restriction, 1200 at the most, 700 recently.
Yes this matters! Today, after ending a 24 hr fast at 8 pm last night I checked my blood 20 hrs later. G96 & K4.0. Serious, balanced protein, no carb creeping. water and black coffee during the 20 hr fast.
Your slide show was very effective for me to understand my higher glucose readings in the morning. I am an early riser, so I will start my fasting a bit earlier. I am 5’3” and weigh 119lbs. I started keto two months ago to control my pre-diabetic diagnosis. I have been doing an eating window of 6 hours for about 6 weeks. My average bs is 119 over ninety days. My ketones range between 3.0-.8 with the help of your Max Strength Keto Combo. My biggest goal is getting to a normal blood sugar and reach the Dr. Boz ratio of 40. I am testing BS 3 times a day. I test my ketones just before I break my fast, typically around noon-2:pm and have my last meal before 7:pm. My liver blood tests are normal, checked every 90 days because I take Xeljanz (biologic) for psoriatic arthritis/psoriasis.
Hello Dr. Boz, Hope your doing well, I have been using the urine test strips and just ordered the foracare 6 meter set so that I can monitor my self more accurately using the Dr.Boz ratio. Once again thanks for the educational video's, could not have ever done this without your help.
Two things I’d love to be explained in more detail: Exogenous ketones- if you drink them then your body doesn’t need to make them ? Wouldn’t it be better to force your body to make the fuel you need? I fast a minimum of 22/2 everyday with 48 hours every week to 10 days thrown in. I worry about drinking the ketones and getting false BK readings and getting a false DBR. The other topic is FIBER- I understand the “fiber game” can get people into trouble if you start fiber shopping in order to find more crutches to use, but on 20 TOTAL carbs that doesn’t leave much room for the good whole foods. Avocados , broccoli and spinach etc. would be very limited without the fiber deduction. I’ve adopted subtracting fiber from veggies but steering as clear as possible away from sugar alcohols as well as anything purchased and processed. Am I wrong?
I am grappling with the fiber topic as well. I eat chia seeds daily to stay "regular"... do I need to say SO LONG to chia seeds??? I haven't counted them in my carbs as they have the same amount of fiber... ugh... sure wish I knew what I was doing.
Hi there, while I was pregnant at the age of 36 I got gestational Diabetes :( and now after 3 years has passed I am still having a slight high fasting blood glucose, usually something between 105 - 127. I have tried many different ways to lower my blood glucose, but not successfully until this year when I heard another theory about why we have high blood glucose. It was saying that to much fat doesn't let the insulin working and get the sugar out of the blood. So I decided to go plant based for a while, and I still can't believe but my blood sugar started to decline day by day and for like 3 weeks it went below 💯 yeah I was so happy. After a while I just couldn't stick to 100% plant based anymore and I am back to my old blood sugar levels. I am also doing a 36 hours fasting hier and there, it's the only way that the sugar goes down, but a ketogenic diet didn't help me at all and I find it very hard to stick to and also doesn't think it is very healthy. Any thoughts on that?
Best medical advice I've ever received. Period. Full stop. The content is top shelf, second only to the expert delivery.
I totally get this but can I change the rhythm?
I struggle with the high bs even while in ketosis, yes a chapter on that would be great.
Insulin resistance..fasting and exercise with help it and it will get better
Fake sugars and black coffee kicks in insulin resistance during a fast then you never reach autophagy
Thank you!
Oh I would think that it would be interesting to watch the changes but I have only checked mine with annual checkup.
This is extremely important for those of us that have been insulin resistant for decades! Please include it in the book!
Absolutely!!!
Dr Boz
I am 79 2 years TRYING to go Keto lost 40 lbs but still on some meds for diabetes from 13 to 1 2mg pill which I have now cut in 1/2 when over 7( 126) for quick reduction .love your book have bought several for friends here in Canada and overseas got your recommended cook book by your patient it is the only one I have found with macro's it's super. Harry79
@@harryrideout7054 what is the cookbook that is recommended?
Fasting is even talked about in the Bible and I believe Dr. Boz is doing the lord’s work. Thank You
This helped me a lot!
I’ll make those adjustments and see
James Buchanan - please order the book. The audiobook is my favorite. You will not regret it. PAPERBACK: amzn.to/2rf1fPP

My DR is not a keto fan. It’s my way of life. IR. Will never give up till I can’t.
Definitely needs a chapter in your book. This is so important. Thank you for explaining this.
You are fantastic! Such a clear explanation. Natural born teacher. I wish there were more docs like you!
Thanks so much!
does it mean that keto can eliminate also Type I? sorry if this is a stupid question, I am new to this. Also - how do you measure insuline level?
I love the way you explained this and great information. I am a 4 yr breast cancer survivor and have 20lbs I need to lose.
Ana Martinez~ May God guide you daily. ✝️🙏💕🦋
This definitely deserves a chapter! Can't wait for the new book! Thank you for all you do for us Dr. Boz!
Minnesota Jen -YEAH))
Bravo to you!
Thanks
Dr. Boz you hit it right on. Great lesson and I hope you'll include it in your new book. Thank you. So many of us have that exact question.
Thank God for Dr. Boz

Thanks!

Dr Boz ratio is awesome. Finally, Finally!! I have the confidence to know that I can get my weight down where it needs to be. She is a godsend.
Susie Sam God bless you!!
6:20 video starts.
Thanks for the information!
It’s where I’ve been stuck.
Clearly the carbs , and eating later than I probably should.
Thank you for this video.❤️💛💙
Happy you are learning from our channel! be sure to like our videos, thanks for the support
Great information , I bought and read your book but I don't remember reading about focusing on the Circadian Rhythm to set the time of the last meal. I'm going to pay more attention to that. I look forward to reading your next book.
Dear Dr Boz
I am so thankful for you educating the public thru your videos.
Very important information, especially for those whose BS are staying high.
Now 24 hours into a fast. BS was 125 this morning, and just dropped below 100 (95).
Steve Templeton Atta boy!
@@stevetempleton9092 always trist the process and youre moving forward to better places!! Xo
I trust the plan, but would like to see a little positive reinforcement for my efforts!!

@ Steve If you've been "keto" for a while use your mid afternoon blood sugar as your "fasting" level. My morning readings are typically 108 to 110 while mid afternoon are in the 80's.
I ordered your book yesterday. You are right on track, keep spreading the truth.
Great information, thank you for explaining the importance of fasting and the chemistry shifts.
Agree, this was a great presentation!
Please put this in your next book . Enjoyed your lesson. Thanks
This video was fabulous! It answered a lot of my questions as I learn through this journey. You are such a blessing! Thank you for sharing!
Loved your book and learned a lot from it. Please keep writing and doing these videos. Thank you, thank you.
One of your best videos... Or maybe it was just that it addressed many of my questions at this point in my Keto jurney. Thank you.
Thanks sooo much for this lesson! It’s really an eye opener ❤️ I have been struggling with diabetes type 2 and all the complications that go with it for such a long time. This is really giving me the tools to fix my health! Thanks!!! Love your channel and I can’t wait for your second book!
I’m going through the same problem. I have tried every diet that I can. This is the only one that has been working 😊
I have learned so much from you. I didn’t learn this from nursing school or from my science classes.
Thank you!
Thank you so much! You are speaking directly to my situation with this video and I so appreciate it!
Regina Richards me too!
Annalee Haley what do you do?
BB Haleys wow, excelente, thanks 🥰🙌🏻
I always learn something from you, looking forward to your next book. Good lessons here, especially about the circadian rythm
This is information I've been looking for. Thank you Dr. Boz!
Thank you
Thank you!!
Diabetes is a beastly thing to have how I wish there was a cure because it’s such hard work watching what you eat and worrying about sugar all the time.
This is a very critical section to understand the relationship of sugar and ketones - put in the book
Great lecture Dr. Boz. I learned a lot listening to you techings here. Thank You!!
Excellent! Must for your next book! Thank you!
Again, a very informative podcast. Let us know when we can pre order your next book. Cannot wait to dig into it.
You always hit a home run and ‘tis was no exception.
Yes this matters! Today, after ending a 24 hr fast at 8 pm last night I checked my blood 20 hrs later. G96 & K4.0. Serious, balanced protein, no carb creeping. water and black coffee during the 20 hr fast.
Nailed it! Exactly the info I was looking for today. Thank you!
Two things I’d love to be explained in more detail:
Exogenous ketones- if you drink them then your body doesn’t need to make them ?
