Wow, cool design. I’ve been wanting to add a roof, side, front & rear to a overland roof mounted tent frame so I can secure items in the bed. This gives me more ideas 👍🏼
Hi I’ve had my smart cap since it became available to 21 f150’s(back in 2021) I just received my wiring harness the other day. I don’t have that gray wiring connection that the pig tail is supposed to connect to near the drivers feet. There’s is a recess for it, but it’s not present. Any advice?
While we've known the '09-'14 F150 is a bit wider, we haven't had a chance to do a test fitment on it until recently. We found that the cap we designed for the '15-'20 F150 sits a bit narrow on each side, particularly at the rear, and would need the 3rd brake light professionally wired, but the rest of the Fitment Kit contains what is needed to accomplish the installation. If you would like to send and email to our Customer Support Team (Support.NA@SmartCap.com), we can share some images that show the fitment.
Assuming you are referring to the 8ft beds, we don't have it in our current product plan, but there is always a possibility that we may add it somewhere down the road. You may want to sign up for our email list - The Tribe (www.na.rsismartcap.com/join-the-tribe). Any new product releases or updates will go out to that list first. Sorry we don't have better news for you right now, but thanks for reaching out, and for your interest in SmartCap.
@@vvarLEADER We have 2 caps that fit the F150 Lightning - Our EVO Sport (EV0306-MB), and our EVOa Adventure (EA0306-MB). You can compare their features on our website comparison page (www.na.rsismartcap.com/model-comparison).
Are you referring to the Rear Door, or the side Gullwing Doors? And is there a specific truck model you would like to know about (year/make/model & bed length)?
@smartcap_official To the rear door, I have a 2021 f150 short bed 5.5 The razon I'm asking is to know if my power wheelchair fits in there, it's 36 inches tall
The rear door opening for you rig/SmartCap is 445m (appx 17.5 inches). This is just the door and obviously doesn't include the tailgate height. Hope that gives you the info you were seeking.
We're working to get videos produced for the assembly and installation of each of our applications. Stay tuned for the one to come for the Sierra/Silverado. There are printed directions for each application on our website (www.rsismartcap.com/welcome/north-america/assembly-guides?).
@@smartcap_official Ok I finally got the Cap and love it! I haven't wired the 3rd brake light yet. I have wiring kit F-Harn-F150 PO:52766. Do you know if this will work for the Lightning? I was planning to tackle it this week and wanted to make sure I have the correct part for the Lightning. Thanks!
4.4 FT LBS of torque..... That torque wrench that big watch installer man is using isn't torquing lower than 5 LBS of torque.... the installation directions that you have online specify 3.7 FT LBS... so which is it.... 3.7, 4.4 or 5 LBS or torque? Whatever feels natural? Would also love for someone to point me in the direction of a torque wrench that's capable of hitting a 3.7 spec. It's also hilarious how flowy and effortless this video makes this install appear.
Our recommendation is 4.4 ft lbs. If you have any issues with your assembly installation, please reach out to our Customer Support Team via the "Contact Us" link on our website. They have a great deal of experience and would love to assist you in any way they can.
Get a torque wrench in inch-pounds, then it'll be multiples of 12, for example if you need to hit a target of 4 pounds it would be 48 inch-pounds on the wrench.
Unfortunately, this wiring setup is necssary on the newer F150. Not all trucks have this requirement. We do have a network of North American dealers that are very experienced with these types of installations.
Thanks for your request. We will be producing a vehicle specific installation video for the Silverado HD caps in the near future. If you have specific question that we may be able to assist with, please reach out to our Customer Support Team (Support.NA@SmartCap.com) and they'll be happy to assist in any way they can.
I just installed one on my 2019 f250 and there are not any instructions on where to plug the wiring harness into. There is not a plug under the drivers side that works. Other than not being legal by having a blocked brake light I like it so far.
Great to hear that you are liking your SmartCap. With regards to your brake light harness, if you had a dealer handle your assembly install, please reach out to them to assist with you. If you did a self-install, make sure and check steps 68-73 (pg 33-34) of the pdf installation guide. If that doesn't help, it sounds like we need to get you in touch with our Customer Support Team (Support.NA@SmartCap.com). Please reach out and they should be able to assist.
Thanks for your feedback. As for "most expensive", we can understand how you may have some initial apprehension regarding price. While at first glance you may think we are quite a bit more expensive, the moment you price out a fiberglass cap with a similar feature-set to the SmartCap, you’ll find the price difference is much lower than it appears. Our standard features include: stainless steel 5-piece modular construction, capable of carrying up to 770 lbs static & 330 lbs dynamic, large Gullwing side doors with hidden hinges, keyed-alike locks and flush-mounted sliding vent windows, a Positive Pressure Air Vent, Cargo Light Portal Window, integrated Roof Rails, and the ability to remove it (in as little as 15 minutes) if you want. All of these things come standard with a SmartCap. We hope you’ll give us another look. We’re pretty sure you won’t be disappointed.
I just had my Smartcap installed at an "authorized dealer". They cut the D rubber at each corner leaving a big gap, and cranked the C clamps down with what must have been an impact wrench. The cap is all bent up at the clamps, and the stainless actually has tears in it where they ripped it apart from using so much force. I can't close my tailgate without ripping off the D rubber that's supposed to seal it. I'm really scared they bent my bed rails by cranking on the C clamps so hard. The truck only had 200 miles on it when they did this. They also said that the wiring harness is NOT included, just to cut the connector off and wire it that way. They wanted another $450 to wire it so I said no. I can't recommend SmartCap if their installers do such a HORRIBLE job of installing their product. Not only am I out almost $5,000 but I'm scared to look at the possible damage to my truck. From an authorized installer.
So sorry to hear that you've had this experience. It sounds like we need to get you in touch with our Customer Support Team ASAP. The best way to do that is to have you complete a Warranty Service Request on our website (www.na.rsismartcap.com/warranty). This will alert the team of your issues and they will work with the dealer to get it sorted for you.

Any idea on when the EvoC will ship to the states? Have had one on order since May.
Made in Texas now. Mine took 4 months, but 3 months was waiting for the production to start in the U.S. So hopefully you get yours soon.
We definitely have EVOc's coming. If you placed a backorder with a dealer, they should be able to give you a delivery estimate.

How much? 9 grand?
SmartCaps range in price from $3,895 - $4,695.

Most expensive and most difficult, worry about it will effect the pickups warranty, also not every one is a engineer and mechanic.
