The size of Minchin -- this is arguably his very best song, and he'll let someone else take over the keyboard, arguably his best way of performing the song himself. (Even if it is a keyboardist hiding inside a brilliant theoretical physicist.) It's a lovely moment, all heart and no ego. I raise a glass to the two of them.
B/c of my ultra-religious upbringing, I'll never know the feeling you describe for your daughter. I was a Good Boy for so long, then mess up and start questioning and suddenly my ENTIRE family and friend network cuts me off and I'm cast adrift. This was 15yrs ago and I don't know how to exist in "the world" and make friends like normal folk...so I listen to songs like this and live vicariously and live in your joy. :-)
I am so sorry. It takes such courage to choose truth at the expense of all your friends and loved ones. Congratulations. I hope it gets better for you. I hope you find, through things you enjoy doing, and meeting other people who enjoy doing them that you will join us in the world soon ... and one day, maybe, find yourself singing this song amidst your own beloved people. As long as there’s life, there’s hope. Thank you for posting your courageous, honest comment and be kind to yourself.
I'm really sad this was part of your journey man. Hopefully things have turned a corner for you. There are more folks like you than you'd know. I had a similar upbringing but my transition wasn't so intense as yours
You're part of a much larger family now . We're the Orphans. I'm Colin Orphan, and we meet every day in bars and social media sites. Welcome to the largest family on earth😁
Tim Minchin showed up in my life during COVID-1 and binging reaction videos. Brian Cox appeared much earlier as I raised my curious boys in the early 2000’s. I love this!
Neil Gaiman and Andy Leask (often mentioned in the same sentence) shared Tim Minchin's White Wine in the Sun about half an hour ago. It's my favourite Christmas song, so I feel the need to share it, too. So, here, have my favourite version. It has Professor Brian Cox in it, and could not be more brilliant if it tried, especially as it was also filmed on my birthday three years ago. I really like Christmas, too.
And that's why its my favorite song ever. I could explain why about now but why analyse it.. it just IS. Its just real... he done the same with Not Perfect and i know no other singer who can do what he does! Superfluous springs to mind, and that's a rare thing :)
This is fabulous! I love that Tim does not mind that people just upload his work from live shows, DVD.s or whatever...He is really cool and a genious! Thanks for uploading!
+vlogabond I imagine this was really cool for Brian. Although he told me he didn't really miss music much because it was quite repetitive compared to science
@MentalFunBunch Bless you! I'm (usually) quite perfectionist myself, so obviously I'm now massively embarrassed :-D Can't believe no one pointed that out before... Thanks, M.
The odd flashes are probably artifacts from the youtube compression, if you don't see them in your personal copy. I bet nowadays if you reupload you won't see the issue. Great video! we don't see tim on guitar very often
That’s why we Aussie love and need this song because we have had a cold and snowy Christmas shoved down our throat for so long which is totally foreign to us.
What a great get! I was so star struck to see Tim and Brian together that it took me 2 mins into the video to realise it was odd to see Tim on guitar. I knew that Tim was on an episode of Infinite Monkey Cage... I didn't know about these performances. Are there any videos from the rest of the shows? Thanks
Mattsretiring. Thank you. I’m afraid this was the only show I went to, and I’m not sure how extensive the tour was (nor whether Tim was with them for all of it, or whether they had other “guests” in other places). From what I remember, most of the show was made up of individual sets from the contributors. In truth, I didn’t know much about Tim at the time, but he impressed me with his first set, so I started recording only when they announced that he and Brian would collaborate for the finale.
I can't believe that Brian Cox was in Dare. Let's just say that the rest of the band did not age as well as he did. He looks like a very promising high school student and they look like they did 3 tours through Vietnam followed by careers as heavyweight boxers on the underground circuit. Not judging, it makes for an amazing looking band and they do look their age...dammit, I'm going to get hate from the Dare fans.
No, I'm sorry about that - I uploaded this 10 years ago and didn't know anything about adding captions back then. I lost access to my old email address several years ago too, so I can't log back in to change or update anything. It's a frozen relic of its time...
Watching him play, it looks like just C, F, G (capo on 5th). Not that tricky at all for the majority of the song. The bridge sounds like it has a bit more. Should be easy to nut out by ear.

OMG Brian Cox and Tim Minchin. Could this get any more perfect?
Don't know if I could be any happier other than having christmas with both
IKR!?
And white wine in the sun!
It's not Not Perfect, but it is perfect, yes.
I can't decide whether this song is happy or sad so I'm just going to ring my parents and tell them I love them instead.
I have the EXACT reaction every single time I hear this song ❤
That's the best possible reaction to this song
저는 하늘나라에 계신 부모님께
받치겠습니다.📞📞📞📞📞
It's not even christmas, and I's still crying listening to this. Most beautiful and truthful christmas song I've ever heard.
Brian Cox is one of my idols in my academics world and tim minchin is one of my idols in the comedy world awesome to see them together

I had no idea that Tim could play guitar until right now.
Because of course he does, you fool.
Well, i had no idea that Brian COx was pl;aying piano!
ogi22 D:Ream, Things Can Only Get Better
Two of my favourite people working together. Beautiful.
What a perfect song for these two beautiful, soulful, and wise men to play together.
This song manages to be ,beautiful, funny, truthful and sad all at once...wow
My international go-to man of science teaming up with my all time favourite modern artist! OMG! Life is complete!

I really like Christmas, too.
Legends! Both of them. :)
It's Dr. Tim Minchin and Prf. Brian Cox now
This is great, can't believe it took me nearly 10 years to discover it, would love to see them do 'Storm' together.
And that's why its my favorite song ever. I could explain why about now but why analyse it.. it just IS. Its just real... he done the same with Not Perfect and i know no other singer who can do what he does! Superfluous springs to mind, and that's a rare thing :)
Wow - this was a great find. 2 of my favourite people together!
Two sceptical rock gods together. Brilliance squared!!
Listened to this on repeat for a while, then listened to white noise to stody, and i can STILL HEAR IT PLAYING.
This is fabulous! I love that Tim does not mind that people just upload his work from live shows, DVD.s or whatever...He is really cool and a genious! Thanks for uploading!
Know one can ever compliment the genius that is Tim Minchin, but that was Brian Cox, I did not see that coming.
Absolutely wonderful, thank you for the upload.
Two of my hero's in one video clip! Thanks for sharing.
I've only just seen this collaboration now. It makes me so so happy ;)
This is my favorite Christmas song.
fantastic two of my fav men together.....ty big time for the upload!
Why so beautiful! D:
I am having a Nerdgasm... wtf am i watching?!!?!?!?!? can we have more please?
Guys I love you both sooo MUCH!!!!
BRILLIANT........
This is perfect :'D
Best version of this song on youtube.
i was there, it was awesome sauce
This song gives me happy feels. :)
minchin collaborations I still want to see:
Bill Bailey (its too perfect to not happen right?)
Dylan Moran (not sure how it would work but it would)
Watch the QI episode that Tim appeared in, they accompany Stephen Fry with backing music, a very funny episode
AHH Brian Cox! My husband!!!! I love that man! What a combo.
feel like crying....
ooh, that's so beautiful. Tim's the best! In EVERYTHING! I like his jacket^^
I've just started listening to the Infinite monkey cage series, I'm hoping this will be part of it too. Love both of them very much!
This is brilliant, thank you so much!
I imagine this was really cool for Tim, it was certainly really cool for me
+vlogabond I imagine this was really cool for Brian. Although he told me he didn't really miss music much because it was quite repetitive compared to science
Fuck yeah!
0_0 He plays piano too?! I didn't think I could find him any more cool than I already did!
Yeah, he was the keyboard player for D-Ream ("Things Can Only Get Better")
And more importantly he was keyboardist in metal band Dare….
Filmed with an actually pretty quality but demonic potato?
About sums it up nicely 👍
very good quality video!
Great!!!
amazing , thank you for the upload.
This is even cooler than that picture of Alice Cooper meeting the KFC colonel.
Nightwish got Richard Dawkins on their album, so I think they win.
he was in a band, i think D-Ream or something like that
@MentalFunBunch Bless you! I'm (usually) quite perfectionist myself, so obviously I'm now massively embarrassed :-D Can't believe no one pointed that out before... Thanks, M.
thanks. I think this was better than Hammersmith,,but we did get Ed Sheeran so not complaining. Well done
you are absolutely lying if you arent crying
Damned onion ninjas
Well I mean I've listened to it like a thousand times so I've built up a resistance
The odd flashes are probably artifacts from the youtube compression, if you don't see them in your personal copy. I bet nowadays if you reupload you won't see the issue. Great video! we don't see tim on guitar very often
Ta very much.
Fuck me!(NO)I didn't know that the prof played. A beautiful rendition.
"you bastard."
You MUST do this again and bring in NdgT...absolute, total nerd-gasm!!
Fantastic, although as a Brit, the idea of sunshine at Christmas is blasphemy. :P
You'll have to join the massive number of Brits who do Xmas in Perth 😉😉😉
That’s why we Aussie love and need this song because we have had a cold and snowy Christmas shoved down our throat for so long which is totally foreign to us.
very cool :)

@Nancie Rose Awww, that's so beautiful! Right, I'm off to do the same...
Lol, and now, you can watch Brian Cox teach you about Particle Physics!
Am I the only one who had to turn the volume all the way up to hear it?
tim minchin is a genesis and sexy 2
lt's not like it's going to snow . . .
I can't believe that Brian Cox was in Dare. Let's just say that the rest of the band did not age as well as he did. So, Tim learnt piano as well as guitar, which eventually got him very far.
That would be a rude word beginning with the letter "B". Tim then corrects his pronunciation... :-)
No captions

Your 1000th like.
Yay! That’s pretty cool for my one and only upload. And it only took 7 years... :D
Marianne Benson Don’t make it another seven years for the next one!
Foxtrot Oscar. Well, I’ve not seen anything as cool as this since, so I set my own bar too high I guess. :D
Marianne Benson You need to start stalking Tim.
Does anyone know the chords that Tim is playing? I'd like to learn this song.
Watching him play, it looks like just C, F, G (capo on 5th). Not that tricky at all for the majority of the song. The bridge sounds like it has a bit more. Should be easy to nut out by ear.
Firstname Lastname Thanks.
Can someone please tell me what Brian yells at the beginning?
It starts with "B" and looks similar to "fasted" when you type it or say it out loud...
I want to turn gay so I can be gay for Brian Cox... is that gay???
GCarlin Disciple
Yes, fabulously so. :-)
I thank God I’m a atheist
even worse. Ed Sheeran really? Compared to Minchin?
