I love that the reason they said they would be on Mars is 2 years was because it takes 7 months to get there and griffin was rounding the time up when counting the return trip. Because it just so happens that there is a very narrow window on travel to Mars due to how the earth and Mars travel at different speeds around the sun. The window for launching to Mars is only open for about 9 months, and it just so happens that the window opens roughly every 2 years. So griffin's random assumption happened to be completely right. If you go to Mars, you better plan on staying for about 2 years even if you already have a return trip prepared.
