This was actually supposed to get a US release in by Electro Brain who may have cancelled the US release due to the unpopularity of the character in the US which is VERY surprising when the Genesis and Game Gear Asterix games DID get released in America.
Asterix does have parallex scrolling, not many GameBoy titles feature that. It's also worth mentioning that the SNES version was developed by Infogrames themselves, so it's kinda different and the music is less good. Obelix is definitely the better game.

Do you plan to ever do GBC games? Or do you want to dedicate this channel solely to the grey-scale glory of the DMG? Because there is yet another good Asterix game for the GBC. The Search for Dogmatix. It features impressive animations. Thanks for making these reviews, I really enjoy them. Though, in my humble opinion, I might suggest that the volume is a little bit to low. I always find myself watching your videos all turned up.
I haven't as of yet, as my main focus is collecting for the original DMG :) But rest assured, once I've completed my full set, I'll probably work my way onto the GBC. I just find the quality of games generally higher on the original console. I think I have an Asterix Game for the GBC, I'll have to have a look at it! Yeah audio isn't my strongest suit to be honest, I need to get better at the balance between my audio & the game's score, I just need to get some better equipment, I can't crank it too much due to having no pop shield, fortunately though one will be here soon I hope :) Thanks for the feedback!
Ryuma King yeah i was watching this video just in a hope that he would mention the paralax scrolling feature of this game but nope, It’s amezing because the gameboy has only 1 background layer so to accomplish this, it needs one of those MBC type chips to do tile update to refresh the backgrounds contstandly at runtime,in order tocreate this amezing ellusion.
Theres one thing wich sets the gaming industry on fire. This game uses paralax scrolling , while the 8bit cpu cannot do this alone,so it needs another 8bit chip to help in like the mbc chip wich could bankswitch data at runtime to create this ellusion. So a 2x 8bit chips equals the performance of 1 16bit chip,eventrough those 2 8bit chips don’t run in parallel and each doing their own task but still, it’s impressive to see and talk about this technical behaviour stuff behind this, to me atleast.
That's incredible to know! I'd seen the paralax scrolling in the game, but I didn't know how exactly they'd pull it off on the Game Boy. Thanks for the knowledge and for watching!
Like you mention the jumping controls on this are a bit naf, if you play through on hard the enemy placement is stupidly hard too, pretty much every time you have to do a hard jump it dumps an enemy in your landing spot!
Oh God really!? I can imagine how hellish that'd be! Wait until the All the Glory cut, it still took around 20 lives to beat that last stage, the jump mechanics are really not suited that last stage!
GameBoyle also theres a bit of input lag,how many times do i press a button while running and jumping from platforms but it does not alway’s respond if i hit the jump button.
Thisthis game actually uses the window layer from the gameboy to allow multi scrolling backgrounds,so it doesn’t use any fancy mapper for doing that, Now i can hardly call this a straight nes port since the level layouts are different here and there,many mysic tracks are different and some platforms are different but other then that it’s losely based on the nes version.

I've never seen the gb version of Asterix before, it actually looks pretty decent. While I am aware of some of the Asterix titles on various systems I've only ever played the first Master System title which I really enjoy. I might have to look up this one though.
It's a pretty solid title, but as you'll see when the 'All the Glory' drops for it, that last level is hell! The cracks in it really start to show, but it's a pretty good game once you figure out it's mechanics. If you have trouble locating a copy, let me know. It seems to be pretty common as a SCN release

Asterix not a game I've ever played before on the game boy but looks a good alternative to mario game series on the system. will consider picking this up should i find it out and about, great content here fella

Have a look for it buddy, even on eBay it's not that pricey a cart to pick up,so it's definitely worth a dabble if you can find it at a nice price! I loved the cartoon in danish!! Sadly never had any of the games though..
