While we wait on Search for the Lost Episode 3, I thought it would be fun to do a Top 10 list, since this channel reeeaaally needs an actual video upload.
This is a video I've wanted to do for a while. With characters like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow and Metal Sonic being the most popular in the series, there are several other Sonic characters that just aren't given nearly as much attention. This list is devoted to them. "Underrated" could refer to more than one thing (disliked by fans, underused in games, etc.)
KEEP IN MIND that this list is entirely my opinion, and is not necessarily a list top 10 best characters.

Wouldn't be impossible for Mephiles to come back - so long as it's established some remnants of the old timeline still exist it would be possible to write a story where he's able to return. And for that we have three easy possibilities - Sonic and Elise (who were the very cause of the timeline resetting), and Blaze, who was sealed in another dimension (with Iblis, no less) when the timeline was reset.

@@Someguyhere111 I do wonder what happened to that kingdom after 06. It almost seemed like they got erased from existence as well. What happened to all those souls? Did they just get plopped into a pocket dimension that is basically the cosmic trashcan where we have Solaris and Iblis fire monsters fighting dark Gaia and his spawn while a good Chaos tries to subjugate both with genies, and ghosts. Underworld knights roams the lands fighting just about everything, Babylon Gardens in the sky raising storm after storm and constantly sending an endless amounts of robots to support Chaos, and gaint lasers are fired about every five minutes. As far as cosmic trashcans go, it certainly sounds interesting.
Cosmo also dies but nobody really cares about that it seems, so I’m just gonna say it. Parallel Universes.
He was erased in the '06 timeline which was erased. He could still easily be alive. Plus, he looks like a shadow clone enough to get away with it.

Awesome list. awesome list. Silver has a lot of untapped potential that the Archie comics thankfully gave light to. To be fair though, Silver did have to use Enerjak's projectiles by either repelling them back at him so technically Enerjak is probably still stronger HOWEVER, this proves that Silver is smarter then Enerjak to out smart him like that.
Meme the Memehog hmm. I felt like I might have miss worded that. Maybe he is more cunning when Enerjak but in Silver’s defense, when he was tricked by Mephiles, he was desperate and never met Sonic before so as far as he knows, he could be the Iblis trigger.

I don't understand how Jet and Silver are forgotten. They both appeared not only in the Mario and Sonic Olympic games but also in the idw comics.
Cosmo's awesome design is what got me into drawing! I still draw her to this day.

I agree. I love Cosmo and is one of the best parts in sonic x. She is very underrated and is the best character from the new sonic x characters. That's where Tails is at his best. Season 3 is actually a good season and very underrated as a season. I found her enjoyable and she is not useless, as without her, sonic and co wouldn't be able to stop the Metarex left alone do anything against it at all. She deserves more love like Blaze. Speaking of Blaze, she needs more screen time, since she barely got time to really shine like Sonic does nowadays, who shines in the wrong way. Blaze is my second favorite character and I love her as a character.

@@Wojtek1250XD I really felt sorry for him. I like their close friendship and it actually made Tails kind of a badass and holds his own and tries to stop Shadow. Aside of the adventure era, this is one of his best moments. It was sad that Cosmo had to sacrifice herself and I died from the inside since she's one of my favorite characters in Sonic X, even among the likes of Tails and Sonic. I'm glad that she was not another useless character. Stares at Omochao.

Mephilis, Cosmo, and Silver need to be used more. Love them! Also, Blaze needs to be used more in my opinion too.

I Absolutely Agree with #1! Silver deserves More Recognition. And in Sonic Forces, He's like the Only Person who can take on Infinite One-on-One, but instead He Goes Down in One Hit, He would've done MUCH Better! WHY DOESN'T HE HAVE HIS OWN GAME YET?!?!?!

I cried when Cosmo died.
You're doing a real service giving Cosmo some representation. By far one of the most underrated Sonic characters ever, and I'm here to change that. It's time for Cosmo to make a return after her cliffhanger years ago. She didn't deserve the fate she suffered from, and had *so* much unused potential that should still be met everyone.
#SaveCosmo. Spread the message, she'll come back soon enough with our efforts.
She is by far the best, if not THE BEST character to EVER exist, and honestly, I really think SEGA killing her off was one of the worst decisions ever done.

I wish I can say Cosmo's sacrifice was a good way to end the third season of Sonic X but seeing Tails character in every game after the ending, I have to say that I wished Cosmo never died in the first place. If Sega killed off a likeable character as an excuse to make a fan favorite character useless, then that has to be one of the dumbest things they've done! The only way I can think of to save Tails character now is to bring Cosmo back! #SaveCosmo

Also on the subject of Taismo, I just saw a video that had Taismo as the 10th worst sonic couple. And I immediatley thought of Forges "The heck did you jsut heckin say?" moment.

I feel like sega's just trying to make us hate silver I mean in sonic forces speed battle silver have the worse stat, he's even slower than big, they're didn't even bother give him his original running animation from sonic 06, they're even give him stupid items instead of given his psychokinesis items
it seems to me that Silver can barely be considered underrated anymore with how many people admitting to liking him. I appreaciate Infinite being put on here though, he definitely deserves another chance
I'd say underrated in terms of Sega using him in games. I know there's not much that can be done with him as he's from the future, but gosh darn, Forces showed a small bit of how he could be used more often. But this game was such a disappointment that not even that can save it.

Cosmo as well as the whole Taismo ship influence alota of very crazy events in my young life. I remember little me being so torn apart for months after Sonic X ended so I looked to fanmade stories and art for closure. Wound up meeting alotta people who felt the same way, had some IRL friends as well who felt that way, causing all of us to create stories in our heads. Part of me always held out hope they would at least acknowledge her existence again in some game or show..but older me knows they wanna forget Sonic X ever even happened.
I still remember little guillble me seeing fanart of Cosmo in a Sonic Riders style outfit, then hearing Zero Gravity was coming out a few months later and thought she was gonna be an unlockable character...I was promptyl disappointed XD.

more bad games? no. first, they need to have good ideas and know exactly what they can do to have good games with this characters, blaze and knuckles could easily have good games, but silver and infinite could be a disaster like the shadow game, but in a distant future, when sonic team finally understand their own characters properly, and will be capable of made good games for they, i agree.

It really is a shame that thanks to a real life "Eggman" her possible future potential was snuffed out.
The same "Eggman" that's partly responsible for why Knux only appears in recent games to be shown as incompetent, forgetful (he is still the guardian right?) and completely irrelevant outside memes.

The U.S. dub of Sonic X was my childhood, it was how I got to Sonic, outside of playing Sonic 2 on a retro SEGA system. But, anyway, it was nice to see a Sonic X character appear on this list and not have the video talk TRASH about them! So, good on you.
the humans weren't even that bad, it's just that Chris.. basically made Tails irrelevant for most of Sonic X, so thats why people hate that annoying twerp.
But.. Cosmo is literally like, the best thing to come out of Sonic X.

Silver was and is a great character, and it is probably the reason I'll still play 06 every great once in a while. He's got alot of promise in terms of mechanics that just sadly never got explored in future games, but I'm happy he's in Sonic Team Racing. I hope he's playable again at some point. Even a 2D version of him would be cool for like Mania 2 if that ever gets made.

A couple of things I need to say about this. First, I completely agree with #1. You made my day. Silver is one of my favorite characters and he deserves both more screen time and his own game. Just look at my profile picture right there. I'm proud to admit that I am a Silver fangirl and that I keep a Silver plush by my side. I'm even thinking of getting a tattoo of him that's how much I love him. I'm dead serious. Second, when you talked about Mephiles and Silver being in Sonic 06 being the reason we may not see much of them in the future, I thought 'just because they were in that game doesn't mean they can't be used in another game.' My point is those two should make more appearances, regardless of the game's reputation. Third, I also like Tikal too. I like her in the same way I like Maria, as a sort of spirit-ish guide for the other characters. Someone who can influence the others to do the right thing. I just love their sweet and kind personalities and I wanna hug them. Fourth, I do like Tails X Cosmo. They make a cute couple and honestly, I just can't see him having that same chemistry with the other females of the series but that's just me. And if you ask me, Cosmo served a far bigger purpose than Chris did. Fifth, I actually want to see the Werehog more. I feel he can be very useful in other games. I don't care what kind of reputation he got, he deserves a return to the games. In fact, I only like Sonic X Amy if Sonic is the Werehog. He actually cares for her when he's a werehog. In other games, he pushes her away but not in that game. In that game he actually cares for her. It's like not only did his appearance change but also his personality. Plus he's a badass killing machine when in werehog form. Then again, that could just be me. I am a big fan of werewolves and beasts and I do wish I could play as them in games more. And lastly, this is just something I thought of: What if Mephiles and Infinite teamed up? I wonder what that game would be like.

It really is a shame Sega reacted to "sONiCs LAmE FrIEnDs" bandwagon of the "dark" age by making so many characters irrelevant while devolving the "lucky" few that remained.
Tails lost his backbone, Knuckles is irrelevant outside horrible memes, Amy forgot about her big sister role to Cream, Shadow is just "there" for pandering and Silver is just... Ermm?
As extreme as my wish is I would rather play a future Sonic game that's either Sonic only OR has actual multiple playable characters that have big roles in the narrative, simply put if Sega doesn't properly utilize other characters then don't bother putting them in the game!

Seeing all these people in the comments looking for Blaze like I did makes me happy. Sure, she may not be THAT underrated, but she's barely used in a main game nowadays, and it really makes me sad. She's one of my favorites out of the female cast if not my absolute favorite.

10. I hope we get another Sonic Riders game that won't be heavily involved with motion controls. I have seen Jet and the Babylon Rogues in the IDW comic series (one time appearance in a Tangle & Whisper story), so maybe that will be a possibility.
9. People often forget that Infinite was the merger of the character Jackal and the Phantom Ruby. I do remain curious to know what happened to Jackal after Sonic Forces, especially since the new IDW Sonic Comic series takes place after the events of Forces.
8. I'd like to think that the Flicky in e-102 managed to gain control. I bet those Flickies would love to pilot those robots and blow up Eggman's stuff.
7. Shade is one of all time favorite Sonic girls. I hope to see her back in the Sonic-verse one day. I mean, Bioware has already screwed up all of their other flagship franchises. They should have no excuse trying to make Sonic Chronicles 2.

5. Technically, that Chaos wasn't even the real one, it was made by Infinite's wonky eye-damaging powers.
4. Tikal. The one ghost I would like to see again.
3. ... ... ... I swear, I get vibes of Black Doom from this character... Honestly, though, because of the confusing time traveling plot of '06, I'm kind of glad Meph is scattered to the time winds.
2. Seedrian. Another of my all time favorite Sonic girls. Her, Shade, and Amy are my Top 3. I've always had this theory that Cosmo somehow resides as that seed and will one day be reborn. Shoot, I used that very idea in my Sonic sprite comic series over in deviantArt. Plus, I've always thought she, and her species, had special abilities that controlled plant life. That episode of Sonic X with the the crazy vines comes to mind here.
1. Silver really got dealt a bad hand from '06, especially when dealing with those giant billiard balls in that one level. Seriously. Took me hours to beat that one. But, I've always said, if anyone deserves another chance to be playable, it's Silver. I mean, look how great they improved his boss battle in Generations. Plus, he's still involved in the IDW Sonic comic series.
Great list. Especially since 2 of them are characters I try to use in my sprite comics and commissions any chance I get. (Cosmo and Shade.) =)

Man I wish Cosmo can come back in the Sonic universe somehow. I would love if they did something like have a pink tree in the near Tails workshop or a potted plant in Tails workshop like they did in Sonic the dark brotherhood game, yeah that’s actually an Easter egg in that game I only found out recently. Another cool thing I would love to see is for Cosmo to be in spirit form and talk to Tails in a dire situation and give him motivation to stop being a coward and be the person she remembered him being. Tails x Cosmo best couple ever.
I loved playing Sonic Chronicles just for Shade, she quickly became one of my top favorites, they need to bring her back somehow. I really miss a lot of these characters. they all need more time in the spotlight.

If you play as Tails in Sonic Rivals 2, in Blue Coast Zone (I think that's what it's called), Rouge remarks on how Tails was able to keep up with/ outrun her, to which he replies with that he's been training with Sonic.
Characters that I think theyre underated;
Chris from Sonic x, ok, ok, I know he's shown as an useless character but in the metarex saga, he shown a hell of improvement over the useless boy that gets in trouble lots of times, sure he still needs some saving but not as much as before he even made some special shoes for Sonic that save sonic from really tight situations, and he even defeated some metarex with his own laser gun. I get why People hate him since he's the reason why Sonic's World and the human World were about to fuse resulting in a fatal time-loop or whatever, but lets be honest
We had his age and even in our Childhood, we done things bad for our selfishness, and like Chris we understand that even if we done a mistake because of our own self's sake and not wanting to loose someone close to us, we have to move on.
Sally and the Freedom Fighters, People Just dont really see the point of making a appear in the franchise since we already have some Characters that could replaced the Freedom Fighters, Sally is Just hated because of the reputation giveb by the sonamy fanboys and fangirls, by making Sally an evil bitch when in reality she isn't like that at all.

Even after her comrades betrayed her, she Just whent Right at the enemy to eliminate the bigger ship of the metarex Who started all that war that brought her home planet unto ruins in the end, it proved to be a brave, yet foolish move...

A few ways for some of the characters to come back that have a chance.
Mephelis would need to be completely retooled and retconned to not be what he is, Ie the other half of iblis. He'd need to be something, admittedly, a bit less unique (or more) by being some ancient evil sealed away by the ancient echidnas. You can then have Tikal and Chaos come back and help to stop him. However, much like 06, Mephelis should be very ambiguous on who's side hes on. Either that or just make him the Sonic universe devil, making shadowy deals like his name sake. The latter would work better if you never directly confront him, as he'll play both sides like the schemer he is. Only shadow or Silver would see through his BS, and bam, interesting reoccurring villain.
Cosmo actually has a really, really good and easy way to come back that'd just print money, although she'd be reconned a bit too. Just bring back the Little Planet from Sonic CD in a new game, call it Sonic CD 2 for free money, and have Cosmo be one of the flower beings that reside on that planet, like this is what they look like when they grow up. Bam, Cosmo in the games. And at the end she stays with the Sonic group instead of disappearing with little planet because these are her friends now.
Silver has stuff planned, no worries there.
I'm also very surprised you haven't stated Rouge. she really hasn't been in much of anything. She has been in as much stuff or maybe a bit less than Silver at this point since 06.
I like the Cosmo and Mephelis ideas. It would be nice to have a secondary reoccurring character and with the Cosmo idea they could even bring back the time stones. Cosmo with time powers in her super form would certainly be a treat.

Thank you for this video. I see on the internet more hate about the characters you mentioned, we all know almost every character could be tweaked but you showed more love to the characters than anyone's top 10 of any Sonic topic.
I'm just excited that you like these characters too. For an example I love the character of Mephiles and Infinite, they are my favorite villains in the Sonic universe but they get A LOT of hate. People shouldn't look at the bad side of these characters they should look at them in the way anyone in the Sonic word looks at them, a very powerful enemy. Besides there can a lot done with them in latter games. #BringMephilesBack

9) Definitely under appreciated and over hyped, hope he returns along with the Phantom Ruby.
8) I'm not the biggest fan of Gamma, but he's a decent character despite being a little birdie at the end. Though you might have forgotten or not noticed Gamma made a return in Sonic Battle.
7) I really like Shade and really wished she returned and sticked around. Ironic faith was not in her favor years after.
6) A helpful companion and believable friend to Sonic
5) Curse you Forces for not having Chaos as a boss. Chaos is a cool creature and would like to see more of.
4) Definitely a helpful guide unlike Omochao and a somewhat fortune teller showing the past visually.
3) Oh Mephiles is such a nasty villain and would've like to see more of. Much like Shade, it's ironic we may not see much of him again, excluding Sonic Runners
2) Cosmo is pretty helpful despite not much being a fighter. As for Tails x Cosmo... Eh for Sonic X sure, but I'd take Tails x Cream.

1) Silver's the man, he deserves much better than.
Characters I think are underrated that weren't mentioned:
1) Cream and Cheese: It's pretty unfortunate Sega is just ignoring these two characters as they're Sonic's friends. They make good food, know how to fight as a duo against Emerl in Sonic X, look cute, and have useful abilities to help the crew.
2) Molly from Sonic X: Despite appearing in one episode in Sonic X, Molly makes a cool resistant fighter among the stars, and make a alternate version of Maria in Shadow's eyes. It's unclear what happened to her fate before the episode ended as Shadow and Rouge express their concern of her and would've made a cool addition to Sonic X's main roster cast.
3) IX: Being the leader of a tribe of echidnas trapped in an alternate dimension, IX would've made an interesting foe should the corrupted echidnas made a return, if it wasn't for a lawsuit. He would've make a perfect opponent for Knuckles much like Iblis is with Silver and Sonic with Eggman.
4) Emerl: Emerl the robot in Sonic Battle and Sonic X would have made another interesting companion alongside Sonic and friends, but due to his creation of destruction it had to be stopped.
5) Rouge and Omega: I know having 2 characters in one spot is cheating but they're part of Team Dark with Shadow. So... Let's go with that. Rouge being a treasure hunter and a government agent is a cool character as it gives Knuckles a rival to be matched when it comes to treasure hunting. Omega is a robot unused by Eggman who wants to get payback and prove he's one of the best of the best from Eggman's line up of robots like Metal Sonic.

SILVER IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER AND SUCH A WELL WRITTEN ONE AND COSMO WAS SUCH A GOOD CHARACTER AND I CRIED SO HARD AT THE END OF SEASON 2 OF SONIC X LIKE TAILS AND COSMO WERE SO ADORABLE TOGETHER (and something about tails and cream is just really weird to me)

I like that fact that Cosmo is on the list but I think up to 3 more honorable mentions could have also been there! Mighty for one as hasn't been in a game since the 32x game called chaotix, plus there was a character in the UK comics that never appeared in the anything else (the comics in the UK were called "Sonic the Comic" lame I know but that's what they came up with) was a character they introduced called Techno and she was a canary, plus another character exclusive to that franchise for a time was called Shortfuse the Cybernik who managed to keep his own mind so turned good instead of being an evil badnik
