Gojo is a really good person. The way he was raised and how world views his power, the chances of him growing up to be a careless monster were high. Instead he has empathy, despite feeling so different from others. He feels isolated and alone after losing Geto, but that hasn't made him turn against the world. Gojo tries to make a world better for people who aren't like him, and without becoming a dictator.
Gojo is not "Narcissistic". He's "Egotistical". Narcissism and Egoism are two different concepts that have nothing to do with each other. Someone like Sukuna (Or Homelander from The Boys) has a narcissistic mindset. It has been implied many times in the series that Gojo is egotistical. He trusts his own ability more than anything else and doesn't care about the consequences. But he cares about people. If not, he wouldn't save those people in Shibuya. He wouldn't become a mentor. He wouldn't lecture against genocide. And he genuinely cared about Geto (and still cares). He also cares about his students. His final words were as a human he loved people but chose to draw a line as a living creature. This is not narcissism. A narcissist is a sociopath who can't understand people's emotions and only cares about themselves. In that sense, Sukuna is a pure Narcissist. In the Heian era, he decided to kill all the authorities because he didn't like them. He even killed his own love interest. He doesn't care about anyone. The only ally he has is a butler who acts like a slave and has no personality. That's Narcissism.
It's crazy that Gojo held himself back so much that he ended up nerfing himself. If he had the same mindset as Sukuna he'd be so far above everyone including Sukuna.
You are right about him not being narcissistic, he was raised that way from childhood. A God among men and his power levels were among the strongest in his era. Not to forget he is pretty observant despite his flippant behaviour, 6 eyes.
The way I see it (in the driest explanation), Gojo allowed a teenage boy to become a human experiment so that he could have a challenging fight against the person inside him. However, I still think he's a good person, just a bit egotistical. I want to create a video on this topic; I love the different takes.
I definitely think you did a good analysis. My only point is when you said Gojo didn’t want to kill those people out of revenge for Rika but for himself because they were jujutsu involved individuals. While that may be partially correct, I definitely think Gojo wanted to kill them because they were clapping over Rika’s death. But yeah, Gojo is definitely not narcissistic and for the position he’s in, he uses it for more positive than negative. I mean look at Sukuna. He’s a prime example of using your power for carnage.
I wonder if sukuna is a monster because he sought exogenous validation as the strongest. That would explain why he is so confortable in battle. He sought the strongest to claim the title. He used his power to make a statement and not to follow orders while following a moral compass like gojo. Interesting video.
Imagine a wprld where gojo ran wild and became a modern sukuna before sukunas ressurection. Then sukuna getting wiped by wild gojo. Its like goku black. That would be interesting.
"How can I be the strongest and I can't protect my friend?" Sounds similar anyone? Bingo...NARUTO! Anyway, I never characterized Gojo as narcissistic. Pompous? Ehh...maybe. Ethical? Ehh...I believe so. He was never out to flex his muscle because he knows he's that guy and he knows no one can give him hands. So, why abuse it? Why go around reminding others? He is just very confident in his abilities, plain and simple. And honestly, I don't blame him.
I think you did a good job explaining it. I think you're right, he's not narcissistic, I think I'd describe Gojo as "pompous".
