Very pretty boat, and maybe the ideal motor set up. Although I am still looking for a video of a chieftan underway with the 4 cyl. hope there are videos of the restoration, and boat underway..
I don't remember many videos of the chieftain in the water. There is one short video on my TH-cam channel. There is also a nice restore thread on the starcraft forum on iboats.com
+Soeuth Svay I'm not sure. I just kept the original wire harness and added new circuits for my accesseries. There's a lot to the wiring of that outdrive. You should go to iboats.com and look into the mercruiser forum. Those guys can get you the right diagram.
Travis B No, the 165 was original in this one... but had to repower it due to PO neglect. Here's a condensed rebuild thread on iboats: forums.iboats.com/forum/boat-repair-and-restoration/completed-boat-projects/9397360-1974-21-chieftain-165-mercruiser-restoration
+Soeuth Svay It's not that bad, but it does take some work. To take the top panel off, you have to remove the rub rail rubber on the sides and back. Then, take out the screws holding on the aluminium rub rail. Then, remove screws and rivets holding the aluminium panel. You can go here for lots of examples and help: forums.iboats.com/forum/owners-groups-by-manufacturer/s/starcraft-boats

Travis B Thanks, we put close to 200 hours on this engine last season and is still running strong. The gear ratio is 1.65.

How fast is your boat?
around 36 mph on the gps
Wow that is pretty good for a mercruiser 165hp 250cid. Keep up the good work
