      Thank you for the nice words, we are glad these tests are useful for you. What features do you usually look for in a helmet?

    • @cicciobello8470
      @cicciobello8470 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for asking. Within my eur 550 budget, my priorities are a comfortable fit (Nolans fit me well), and must-have features (microlock, internal sun visor, and matt black color). Then other priorities then are noise reduction, weight and ventilation. - My current helmet, a Nolan N86 (size M, 1579g) has three years, is well cared for, but loud. I am keen on the Xlite X903 because it checks all the boxes (for it looks fine, and has amazing noise reduction, only I wish it were lighter). Do you think it's a good choice or?

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have definitely done your research and I agree that the X903 seems to check all your boxes, especially if you already know that comfort will not be a problem. If you are concerned about weight the X903 Ultra Carbon should also still fit in your budget and will be lighter than your N86. Are there any other helmets you are considering?

    • @cicciobello8470
      @cicciobello8470 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not easy to find microlock and sunvisor features on middle-upper segment full-face helmets. I would be open to suggestions though, thank you.

      I’ve tried the 661 and 803 on in the past. They fit amazingly. Currently have a Shark vision-r gt carbon which fits perfectly but is coming to the end of its life and having tried the newer sharks they have gone to more of a round fit so it’s tight front to back and loose on the sides.

    Thank you for being the first real english review of this lid! Question about how you'd compare it to the 803 for aerodynamics/stability/buffeting and wind noise in real world riding.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem! Aerodynamics on the highway was fairly even between the 2 helmets. We couldn't go above 130 km/h unfortunately. For stability it was the same but for wind noise, the 903 was certainly stronger. Overall, our rider had nothing negative to say about both helmets. Are tossing up between the 2?

    • @mitchellweitzman9329
      @mitchellweitzman9329 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Championhelmets Yep, I was thinking about either. The idea of a ultra performance race lid is nice, but don't want it to be a noisy bugger when riding just around normally and get annoying. And then also concerned the 903 would be missing the performance and aero of the 803 etc, but it seems they feel similar above 100 kph? My current old Suomy vandal is like a brick in the wind haha. I did just see the sport touring helmet comparison and was real impressed with the rpha 70 for noise. Does your rider have any thoughts between the 70 and 903? That decibel meter at speed was so cool to see and kinda sets the 70 as a benchmark I feel.

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unless you're going at Moto GP speeds, you shouldn't notice a lot, if any, aerodynamic differences between the 803 and 903. But if you are racing, it'll be better with the 803.
      Thanks for your feedback on our comparison too!
      Our rider was pretty impressed with the RPHA 70, especially as it is a more mid ranged helmet. They found that the 903 was pretty good in terms of value as well though. For noise isolation, the RPHA beat it out by a couple decibels so it was a little quieter and our rider thought that as well.

    • @mitchellweitzman9329
      @mitchellweitzman9329 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Championhelmets Hey i also wanted to ask, and super duper appreciate your engagement with viewers, about noise and how you perceive it. I do wear earplugs every ride but what I'm really more concerned with is wind noise vs exhaust. I like hearing my exhaust, vfr v4 sounds wonderful haha. with plugs in now with my suomy, the wind noise completely drowns out the sound of my bike over 100kph, even with a semi loud muffler. So I guess i'm not as interested in complete just raw noise isolation, but if wind noise is less, then that means hard sounds, like engine and exhaust will cut through the mix better. So something like RPHA 70, if it quells exhaust sounds severely as well, maybe it's not for me, and maybe something super aerodynamic like the 803 would be better to allow more exhaust noise in and cut through the air real nice making the exhaust and engine the predominant noise heard. Sorry if this doesn't make sense! haha. I just want something where I can really hear the bike well . thanks so much!

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mitchellweitzman9329 Hi Mitchell, I get what you mean. You want a helmet with good wind noise isolation but with a shell and liner that still lets you hear your bike right? Unfortuntaly most helmets will get a lot of wind at higher speeds but because your bike has a pretty low sound, you should be able to hear it with most helmets.
      The 903 was pretty good for this and a lot of the helmets we have tested, in our modular helmet and sports touring guides as well.

    Just got one in medium, weighed it and got 1.73kg! Checked my scale and it's accurate. Little disappointed because I was considering the (much cheaper) N87 which is (claimed) 1.43kg but figured at 1.49kg the X-Lite UC is in the same ball park, has more features and looks better.
    An Amazon reviewer showed their medium X-803 on the scale showing 1.55kg and I imagine the 903 is heavier since it has the inner visor etc. Any idea why the discrepancy? Do you weight the shell only or something?
    Thanks for the thorough review, it's really useful being able to find this info before buying a helmet!

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paul, thanks for the comment! That is indeed an interesting conundrum. We always weigh the helmet in a size M with all the standard interiors and accoutrements to ensure our results are consistent. When we weighed the size M X-903 Ultra Carbon we found a weight of 1490 grams while we weighed the X-803 RS Ultra Carbon in at 1390 grams, which is consistent with race / touring helmet weight expectations.
      Though we did find the N87 Plus came in at a similar weight to the X-903 with 1430 grams, this makes sense considering the X-903 Ultra Carbon comes with fewer premium touring features.
      Besides weight, how have you found the X-903?

    • @TongueandGrooveTokyo
      @TongueandGrooveTokyo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Championhelmets Thanks for the reply. Actually the medium X-803 Ultra Carbon I saw on the scales was 1.6kg. That reviewer was in Japan like me. I doubt there would be any difference between markets (Nolan,/X-Lite are European fit even here in Japan whereas other manufacturers sell Asian fit) but it's the only thing I can think of, we both got about 200g over.
      Haven't had a chance to try it yet, waiting on my bike getting delivered.
      Thanks again!

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TongueandGrooveTokyo Though there may not be a difference between the Japanese and European X-Lite market fits, there is a crucial difference between the X-803 RS Ultra Carbon and the X-803 Ultra Carbon, which will affect the helmet weight. The X-803 RS Ultra Carbon is built according to X-Lite Race Setup, which likely explains the reduced weight compared to the non-RS X-803 Ultra Carbon. Besides this, it may also be a possibility that X-Lite have made some small changes to the helmet to meet Japanese helmet standards, which will have an effect on weight. This is also a phenomenon that we've noticed with US and European Shoei helmets.

    1. I usually wear a medium, I bought a medium and feels like a small, I'm going to stick with it but is not as comfy as I spected. Also the strap is annoying because it has mostly no clearance between my neck and the strap.
    2. its noisier than expected, I diden't spent a lot of time in ther tho.
    3. Air comes in even if you don't open any vents (this is my main problem) idk if its normal or if Im doing something wrong, I think it comes from the lower part of the visor, but its annoying specially in my town because air is cold as fuck

      2 dark visors on one helmet is quite pointless and makes the whole drop down visor obsolete/excess weight.
      For that you'd be better off just buying the X-lite 803 RR Ultra Carbon.
      The drop down visor is really handy when I work evenings.
      Sunny when I go to work so just flip the sun visor down.

      I have a Bell Race Star Flex dlx for longer trips and track days.
      Transitions shield on that one that self adjusts to lighting conditions so no need for a drop down visor.
      The self tinting one isn't fast enough to adjust for entering tunnels and such where the light condition changes quickly so for that a drop dow is better.

    Very similar with nolan n87. X-lite is also a Nolan brand, so what is the different between these two helmets?

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Though the two helmets seem similar, and X-Lite is part of the NolanGroup, there are still several features that differentiate the two helmets.
      First, is that their ventilation configurations are different since the X-903 uses a large scoop at the top with a chin vent while the N87 (Plus) uses two brow vents on either side with a chin vent. Though both ventilate fairly well, this will affect the airflow in the helmet.
      Second, the visor mechanism of both helmets is also different since the X-903 uses a magnetic mechanism, which makes changing visors a breeze, while the N87 uses a standard quick release with buttons.
      Third, the interior of the X-903 will be on a much more premium level since it uses carbon filaments to reduce static and to keep things cool while the N87 uses a more standard perforated liner. Lastly, the X903 will be much lighter since it comes with either a composite fiber or a carbon fiber outer shell while the N87 is made of polycarbonate. So, while both are quality touring helmets, the X-Lite X-903 will definitely offer more premium features and functionality than the N87. Thanks for the question!

      Hi Sam, currently, we still need to complete our road test for the helmet, so we don't yet have a noise level measured from inside the helmet. However, considering that it comes with a quality liner and is aerodynamically shaped with relatively few places to catch the wind, we would not expect it to be abnormally loud.
      That being said, we'd still expect the Shoei GT Air 2 and the HJC RPHA 70 (Carbon) our two quietest sport touring helmets (each showed 97 dB in the helmet) to remain as such.

      @@ridingwithsam Sorry to hear about the issues you were having with the HJC RPHA 11. At the moment, we don't stock Bell helmets, and have not had a chance to road test the Bell Star. However, considering that the X-Lite is designed for touring while the Bell Star is meant for racing, the X-Lite X-903 would likely be quieter since sport-touring helmets are often designed with noise isolation in mind whereas sport helmets are not.

    How does the 903 compare to the 661 (which is what I currently own). Thanks

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this case we'd be looking at Nolan's more entry level sport-touring helmet vs their top of the range helmet, so there will definitely large differences in quality and features. The 661 is made of composite fiber while the 903 is made of mostly carbon fiber, which will mean it will be a lighter helmet. Both helmets come in 3 shell sizes, which is decent and the visors are offering about the same with them being pinlock prepared and have sun visors. Though the 903 has a very nice visor removal system that uses magnets so simplify the process, while the 661 is still mechanical. For the liner, both helmets have removable and washable interiors, but the 903 will be giving higher quality and more features with emergency release cheek pads and higher quality materials. So, both helmets offer decent features for their respective levels. If you wanted to go for a more premium helmet that gives more features, then the 903 will do well, in contrast the 661 offers good, basic features that aren't bad. Are you thinking of going for the X-903?

      @@Championhelmets Sorry, tbh I already had one on order , it arrived this morning. And yes, great helmet, not ridden with it yet, but it's a lot more comfy than my 661. It's actually slightly heavier, though, the 661 I measured at 1.4kg and the 903 at 1.7kg, but my 903 isnt the Ultra Carbon, its the white one. It's also slightly more bulky than the 661. But it fits my head perfectly, I used to think I had a Shoei head, but I've realised now I've got an Xlite head :) It's definitely a keeper..

    • @Championhelmets

      Unfortunately, we don't currently sell the Arai QV so we haven't had a chance to road test it. The only thing we can fairly comment on is the X-Lite X-903 is lighter than the Arai by about 100 grams, so it'll be more comfortable on longer trips with less strain. Other than that, the X-Lite's drop down sun visor system may be a bit more user friendly than Arai's pro shade system. What do you think of the X-903?

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the great question! The answer would mainly depend on what riding you plan on doing and what you'd like from your helmet. The X-903 is about 100 grams heavier than the NXR, but it comes with more touring focused features like an internal sun visor and an adjustable liner. Though the helmet hasn't been rated by SHARP, it has undergone additional rotational impact testing. The NXR is more sport focused since it's lighter, doesn't have a sun visor, and has a double D-ring chin strap. The NXR also earned 4 stars from SHARP. So, it would depend on if you're looking for a helmet that will give more touring performance or more of a sports focus.
      What's your view of the two helmets?

      To get the best balance between the two bikes, we'd suggest either the Shoei NXR or the AGV K6. They both do an excellent job of coming between touring and sport (with a bit more of a focus on sport). You can see how they compare here: th-cam.com/video/b-dyX5daBMI/w-d-xo.html

    This or the GT Air 2?

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the great question! The answer mainly depends on what you're looking to have in your helmet. If you're looking for the quietest helmet, then the GT Air 2 would definitely be the best option, and it's also very comfortable. Though not as quiet, the X-Lite comes also comes with a great level of features including its magnetic visor assembly and the same quality liner as the one used in the X-803 racing helmet.
      As far as safety goes, only the Shoei has been SHARP tested (where it received 3/5 stars). However, the X-Lite has also passed additional rotational impact tests in a certified test facility and they have a good record for SHARP tests.
      A last point to consider is the communication system possibilities with the two helmets. Because of the SRL 2, Shoei have made it much harder to mount any other communication system. In contrast, though the X-Lite is prepared for a specific communication system, it is much easier to mount a 3rd party system.
      So, if you're looking for something with a little more versatility, the X-Lite may be a better option while the Shoei is great if you just want to go long distance without having to worry about what communication system to use. Thanks for the question!
      What do you think of the two helmets?

      Thanks for the question! If you're looking for the quietest helmet, then the GT Air 2 would be among the best. It's one of the quietest and most comfortable helmets that we've road tested, and it will definitely beat the Spartan Carbon.

      Looking for touring helmet, shoei GT-Air 2 is mandatory to evaluate it. Everyone talks about it well. I suffer from cervical weight frightens me.
      X-Lite X-903 Ultra Carbon, it seems to me an excellent helmet. I like MVA - Magnetic Visor Assembly, interesting the LPC - Liner Positioning Control, the interiors seem comfortable but it weighs even more than the GT-Air 2.
      HJC Rpha 70, we are on the same weight.
      Shark Spartan Carbon, perhaps offers less than Shoei and X-Lite but weighs almost 200gr less and could it be good for the cervical?
      Caberg Drift Evo Carbon also weighs around 1,300g, but I don't know it!

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the best sport-touring helmet, we'd still recommend the GT Air 2. Most of the helmets you mentioned are usually intermediate oval, though this can always be experienced differently once you try the helmet on. The touring helmet usually seen as best for oval head shapes would actually be the Arai Profile-V, since they offer the largest range of shapes. The best thing to do in terms of making sure the helmet will fit would be to go to a local store and try the different helmets on to see which will fit you best and most comfortably
