So basically Garrett comes from an enmeshed family and Taylor was raised correctly with unconditional love and encouragement to go wherever and do whatever she pleases and be an independent person. Now Taylor has to be the one to sacrifice for being the better adjusted adult who loves more.

Didn't think how much I would miss my family once we have kids. My recommendation is 100% don't do it. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. Two different cultures... I hope T & G spend some real time living in San Diego before they make a final and *informed* decision about where to have and raise a family. Give it a real shot, Garrett; try living there before you make a decision and if you decide not to live there, at least Taylor will have gotten to spend a few years back there with you and her family. And break free from your mom - I don't say that in a derogatory way, but from experience. Honestly this just showed me that Garrett is just another man. For as much idealization he got for being this perfect guy on the show, he has his own unique set of issues just like everyone. He doesn't sound emotionally independent, like being able to be a whole complete emotionally healthy person on his own. Also seems incapable of being an explorer of the world and spontaneous if the feeling you have after a month trip is "sad" to the point you realized you couldn't be away for longer. If he did more introspection on the show he would have known this is simply who he is but I think his heart just wasn't prepared to let her go. Many are "sure" that G is egotistical and T is oblivious about her worth - thinks poorly as compared to how amazing she is (not my words but that's what I've been reading). I wouldn't characterize that Fredericksburg saga as ordinary marital issues. He broke his word and now she's doing all the compromising. It looks fine now during the honeymoon phase but its going to be a major issue once the limerance phase is over. Especially when she gets pregnant

So basically Garrett comes from an enmeshed family and Taylor was raised correctly with unconditional love and encouragement to go wherever and do whatever she pleases and be an independent person. Now Taylor has to be the one to sacrifice for being the better adjusted adult who loves more.
And it looks like they are working together so they both are happy for now. We don’t know what it is for them in the next 10 years so, it is part of being understanding and respectful of each other’s feelings and walking along towards a common ground.
100%, was curious why someone who seems as intelligent and hardworking as he is, has never left the small town he grew up in. Really limiting his growth and explains why he has not been in a relationship for so many years.
Hope they can establish some boundaries before they have kids. The enmeshment and guilt tripping from his mother will be 100 times worse when there are children on the scene and another set of grandparents to compete with.

@@Deniadri Depends on what the common ground is. It needs to be getting his enmeshment issues resolved by a therapist. I can see his inability to cut the apron strings being an issue particularly when Taylor needs HER mom when she's pregnant or babies are young or her parents are ailing.

The lady who asked about her relationship with someone in Europe. I am from Europe and my husband from the USA. I moved to the USA and married him. Didn't think how much I would miss my family once we have kids. My recommendation is 100% don't do it. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. Two different cultures... Marriage is hard as is, this makes it next to impossible. We're Christians and it's the only thing and the kids that have kept us together for the 16 years we've been married.

I acknowledge this is none of my business, but then again, reality tv and public podcast and all that jazz.... so here's my two cents - I just hope that they take some time in DC and Fredericksburg or whatever and revisit this conversation. Especially if Taylor was saying they were talking about moving to SD in 5-7 years anyway. It's just strange bc Taylor made it seem like they were talking about moving later, but Garret is talking about it as if they were considering moving there sooner and/or it's already decided that they won't ever move there. I'm either missing something or they have conflicting narratives. Garrett genuinely seemed interested in a move to SD on the show except for his worries about his family, and let's be honest here bc we all see it, specifically his worries about his mother's feelings.
I'm sure his mother is a nice person, etc. etc., but she came across as anxious, over-protective, and emotionally needy. Potentially even, maybe unintentionally, emotionally manipulative. I say this from experience - I know it when I see it. I also do wonder, if there is some close mindedness within his family about other cultures or experiences. Garret was nervous when Taylor didn't reveal her ethnicity in the pods; I don't think it's because of any beliefs he holds, but I do wonder if he comes from a town and family where they are just not as open to interracial relationships. I just got a vibe watching his mother meet Taylor - she just seemed so cold.
Anyway, I really hope Taylor doesn't compromise too much. She was extremely clear from day one that this was a non negotiable for her. Now, on the one hand, I think it's good that she's being flexible because that also is really hard for the other person, if they meet in one region and all of a sudden one person is hell bent on moving somewhere else. But... I just fear she will never get to realize her dream of living close to her family and where she wants to. One of my close friends had this happen to her - husband promised they would move back to her hometown (which is a highly sought after urban area on a coast and where they met...) , after they lived in his home country for a few years. Well, it's been 15 years and guess what? They never moved back and now have a house and two kids there and she feels isolated and sad about this but has no choice.
I hope T & G spend some real time living in San Diego before they make a final and *informed* decision about where to have and raise a family. Give it a real shot, Garrett; try living there before you make a decision and if you decide not to live there, at least Taylor will have gotten to spend a few years back there with you and her family. And break free from your mom - I don't say that in a derogatory way, but from experience. Because you are not responsible for her happiness, no matter how much she might reel you back in, and she needs to step back and allow you to live your life. And I hope she's nicer to Taylor now. I wish someone would ask about their relationship.

Unfortunately, we often accept things early on in a relationship and convince ourselves we're okay with it and then the resentment simmers and comes out years later. Garrett needs to at least try to live in SD and give it a real shot, if nothing else but so Taylor can also see if she still likes it there, for her to spend a few years there together before settling down elsewhere. He can at least give her that much. Once he extricates himself from his enmeshed relationship with his mom, he might just do that.

Honestly this just showed me that Garrett is just another man. For as much idealization he got for being this perfect guy on the show, he has his own unique set of issues just like everyone. He doesn't sound emotionally independent, like being able to be a whole complete emotionally healthy person on his own. Also seems incapable of being an explorer of the world and spontaneous if the feeling you have after a month trip is "sad" to the point you realized you couldn't be away for longer. If he did more introspection on the show he would have known this is simply who he is but I think his heart just wasn't prepared to let her go. Which I understand honestly, love and heightened emotions will do that to you. But it sounds like those emotions at least in part wore off after the show where now he suddenly no longer thinks Taylor is worth giving everything up for. It must suck for Taylor to make that realization too that how was I enough then but not now, how do I see you as my home but you can't see that in me?
