Agreed. Ive been playing commander since 2016 both casual and cedh and it sucks that people lost money, but if you buy expensive cards, you run the risk of price drops from bannings and reprints. My artifact deck dropped in value from $1.7k to like $800 in the course of a year from reprints. But now we get to deal with commander ragavans that completely destroy the format for a year before it gets banned only for them to reveal the next insanely powerful card that ruins the format. Kinda like how they did with standard, legacy, and modern :)
Thank you finally someone with some common sense, we all saw how they managed Standard, Pioneer, Modern...even draft is now dictated by their $$$ collecting endeavour with 4 rares per pack. The biggest mistake WOTC has made in the past few years was actively designing cards for commander even in standard sets
Good Luck to all the members of the RC. You will be extremely missed. I believe this is the beginning of the end for commander as wizards cannot manage any format correctly and commander is the most difficult of them all. Also I cannot see how anyone would think that Hasbro will not push to unban expensive cards and make more pushed cards to sell more product. This is a very dark day for commander imo.
What do they mean they feel "unsafe"? People being butthurt on the internet is common place, nobody is actually going to harm them besides some mean words.
Everyone who made personal threats to members of the rules committee over the bans should be ashamed of themselves. Commander being handed over to WOTC is completely their fault.
This is 100% the right decision. The RC obviously could not handle this responsibility, based on their decision and their handling of the communication before and after. Time to let the professionals handle it.
It makes sense, but I feel like the game will end up being less fun and more pricy. Let's ban everything and print out new cards ! Yeah ! They might do that in a couple of years .
You do not have to apply those bans. It is not like everyone has to obey wizards and their decisions. We play for fun and do not care about bans. Also it's ridiculous that someone I dont even know is going to tell me, what I have to play in a primary fun and casual format.
The same people who created Nadu and thought it was fine in now in charge! They will be able to print and ban cards to make money now which is much worse! Also Scott Larabee is a director of operations at Wotc so he will have his hand in it still!
Imagine more the first time link monsters came out and nuked entire deck archetypes just cause konami wanted to change the game. Those were dark days for months until they reworked the rules rework they already reworked…. Now you have the rc saying games are too fast and putting a target on pretty much anything not a signet. Is dark ritual too fast a spell? Lotus petal? The few mox not banned? Mana vault? Thats more why people are pissed. Either the games too fast and all of those need to also be banned or they only targeted 3 of them because they were too expensive and nuked peoples collection just cause.
More than a few months try 3 almost 4 years. Also, Yu-Gi-Oh! Players go every ban list with the potential of having their cards banned, which happens almost every 3 to 4 months. Not 3 years since commanders last ban list.
@@micheal5973 Those expensive cards are unfair to anyone to poor too afford them and encourages proxying. But yeah, if you love expensive cards and planned on making money off of expensive cards, I could understand being outraged.
Well let's see here. People lost hundreds if not thousands of dollars in their investment. Getting mad is a normal reaction, the death threats were too far. It is still WoTC's fault for allowing this to happen, choosing to make limited print runs of cards instead if flooding the market like Talrand or Sol Ring. This was absolutely ridiculous and they should have known this kind of backlash would come...
Nobody should be investing in toys. Expensive and rare cards are fine however and define what trading card games are all about to prevent blind meta copying
Investing for most of us means owning expensive cards to play. Sorry, but lots of toys have value. Most things only have the value we decide they do arbitrarily.
@@im7254…. Open a pack and tell me what the first thought through the average mind. “Wonder if I’ll get a big money pull!” It’s all supply and demand and when fuck with it get ready for a full out.
Make the brackets like this Bracket 4 -> CEDH ( no ban list or very limited ban list) Bracket 3 -> Standard Commander ( no fast mana (except sol ring) / 2 card combos / mass land destruction / anything that creates wincons before T6) Bracket 2 -> Casual ( no mythic no rares (this includes reprints that bump rarity up) + ban list from Bracket 3) Bracket 1 -> Tribal ( Bracket 3 bans + cards that hose tribal builds exclusively)
The idea that "one" card makes your deck a higher bracket but lower without it is silly. Commander is all about synergy and a ban list serves to micro manage what access players have to "that synergy"
They need to listen to the community and unban the cards, unban some more cards from the ban list while they are at it. Bans and banned cards are bad for commander.
Let's unban black lotus as well. I'll be sure to come in with proxies of all of them. If my deck is 30k, no skin off my back, it was basicly free for me, lol.
It's about time WOTC take accountability for their game. I don't know any other game that relies on an outside source to manage it. Now they don't have a shield to hide behind. Have you ever tried explaining the RC to a new player or someone that doesn't play MTG? It never made sense to me.
Yeah, about time the company that sold us premium banned cards, 1000$ proxys, killed 60 card formats, got rid of pro play and send pinkertons out cause a leak of a shitty product take over. My god you are graduated on stupidity…
The way the rc handled the ban proved they were not capable of handling the format anymore. That said violence is never ok, but unfortunately not suprising when cost people 100s or 1000s of dollars, people get violent over money every day.
Incorrect. Scott Larabee is a direct WOTC employee. Aside from that, glad they got fired. WOTC allowed them to exist. You messed with their money, you are getting fired. They deserve the negative press (not death threats).
We all saw how Hasbro and WOTC managed Standard. EDH is probably in for a rough time.

Sheldon would be furious
I can't help but ponder where fetches and og duel lands are going to fit in the new powerscale.
How I feel: the hits just keep on coming.
What I think: I don't agree with, but understand the RC's decision.
One of my group chats started discussing this shortly after work.
Apparently, I called this a few days ago as a "it could be worse" statement
Finally, the videos begin to pour in
Type 0: No Restrictions, All Cards; Type 1: Limited Restricted List; Type 2: Present Restricted List: Type 3: Casual List. No Banning of Cards...
Wouldn’t type 3 just be type 0?
RIP fun magic

Card speculators make death treats. Blame them.
Feel like commander is gonna be yugioh now lol, push new cards out and ban the old ones so you have to buy
You need official wotc license to play commander soon and all games have to be approved three weeks ahead via a form
this is wild! I don't blame them at all

😭 im scared

I agree. This was a terrible banning decision and the rollout was also terribly done. Figured this was coming personally.
