Man you absolutely unlocked some deep memories in me, I remember 100%ing the game throughout a Sunday when I was in last year of Primary School. The item system felt so much more satisfying than CTR, but the music got kind of grating despite being a pretty interesting way of integrating diegetic bgm in a racing game. Also the collisions were absolutely broken.
Yoooooo! I used to play this game as a kid! This was so cool to see in my feed. This and CTR were The racing games of my childhood with the PS1. To see it played this well is nuts.
The cake has a bit of a learning curve to it, I find it's easier to hit targets when you're swerving left or right because you can plan ahead for where it's going to land once the camera fixes back onto your kart.
