Great maestro! Great aartist! I have a privilege to be with him as a singer , he applauded to me and my choir in Dubrovnik(former Yougoslavija) because he was great friend with older maestro cond. and composer Bogdan Babic from Opera of Belgrade! What experience for all life! Something more - maestro Mehta seated with us during our rehearsals , although he was famous in all world... perfection was his goal in whole life. Also,we saw him many times at our tours in USA ...He was in Belgrade many times (last time before three years to support with his concert a construction of a new Philcharm. Building). Thank you maestro Mehta for ever !
I was in second grade, about 60 years ago, when the music teacher told us we HAD to go see Zubin Mehta! It was a great opportunity, she told us. A notice was sent home to our parents, asking permission for their kids to go on this field trip. I was living in Los Angeles, and LA Philharmonic Orchestra was to be conducted by him. I still remember attending that concert. He was already famous at that time. What an amazing career!
when i was in Conservatory in the 90's, he even came to the little city of Maastricht with Israel Phil, Bartok, CvO and Brahms2. A friend and I got student tickets for about 12 Gulden or about 6 euro's and 1st row balcony seats, great!

I haven’t seen a conductor more flamboyant than Mehta, especially at his peak.

Zubin has a sixth sense for the orchestra as Niels Bohr had for physics if that is not too far-fetched a comparison.
I saw him conduct the world première of Olivier Messiaen's Éclairs sur l'Au-Delà with the New York Philharmonic in 1992. Amazing!
