Abby didn’t like Chloe bc even with the INSANE lack of attention, instruction and basic respect you show to a student she still won. she set her up to fail intentionally so many times and Chloe still prevailed regularly. that’s why she tore her down the way she did cause she figured well I’m not teaching her shit and she’s still pulling out wins, better start making her question if she’s good or worthy at all. it’s twisted.

In my opinion Chloe was honestly better than Mattie. The reason I feel Maddie did better was because Abby treated her better, gave her better materials, and gave her more opportunities than she gave Chloe. I feel that if Chloe were given the same opportunities as Mattie she would have excelled and done soooo much better than the rest.

I literally never got into Dance moms. I watched a few episodes here and there and wasn’t here for it-and nor was my mom. My mom had me in gymnastics & competitive cheer from age 3-17/18 when I graduated HS. It got to a point for 2 years I was competing on 3 different teams-level 3, 4 and the Worlds team @ level 5 b/c I was that well rounded and there wasn’t enough girls who could memorize 3 different choreos for 3 different teams & perform them the day of competitions. Very frequently I was the ONLY black girl in the sea, and not to brag but I was always the top performer, gymnast, tumbler, flyer etc b/c of moms & coaches like Abby and I had to try 10x harder and DEMAND my respect even as a child. I blame the parents-my mom has had her fair share of cussing my coaches from hell and back in public & private for being disrespectful to a child(like telling me to lose weight) or backhanded racial comments and she never tolerated it. She even pulled me from a couple teams…all of which asked me to come back. I feel like the moms chased fame more than the kids did and felt ok to constantly put their kids in that mentally draining environment. If I could pick up on that as a young child, I know damn well the adults on this show could.

it’s crazy to me how abby wanted the girls to skip school. i was a competitive dancer from ages 5-18, i went to 3 different studios in my time as a comp dancer and ALL 3 STUDIOS were like “obviously we want you here, you should attend class but school comes first” like they wanted school to be our number 1 priority it’s just crazy to me that abby wants the girls to miss out on an education to go to dance

Contractually, ALL of the girls were managed by Abby. That’s what makes the favoritism so much worse, bc anytime a mom tried to do something outside of ALDC for their kids Abby would verbally abuse them

But we must not forget about the producers who brought on a lot of the drama. I am not watching this 'Mad House ' garbage! Good luck to you , Toni on your journey. Take care. 👯‍♂️👯👯‍♀️

The thing is - a lot of what Abbie did is fairly normal with serious dance students.
Encouraging competition among the students, telling them that they need to copy what good students do - like extra classes, etc. - to be good themselves. That stuff happens in most successful dance schools.
And in schools like the School of American Ballet (SAB) that feeds into New York City Ballet or the Jacqueline Onassis School that feeds into American Ballet Theater both have students from 10 years old. They spend part of the day in school but they leave school to go and take dance classes during the day. In some cases parents will homeschool their kids so that they can attend all of their dance classes.
At 17 or 18 when most kids are getting ready for college kids that want to be professional dancers - for the most part - are beginning to audition for places in dance companies or for jobs in shows.
This stuff is pretty normal for pre-professional dancers.

Abby turned on Chloe after Chloe won the national championship that Abby expected Maddie to win. Think it was the second season. Chloe is the better dancer. Maddie has been favored into the winning spot. Maddie was given privates on her solos and the group dances to make it seem like Maddie picked up quicker than the others.

Abby Lee Miller is what happens when the mean girl from high school becomes an adult but doesn't actually grow up or mature. I've never watched a full episode of the show but I can remember seeing commercials, promos, and clips from the show and would always think to myself, "My god, these parents willingly subject their children to this woman?!". I understand that as a teacher/coach/mentor/etc. you have to be a bit tough sometimes and give someone a bit of a metaphorical kick in the pants to make them reach their potential. But there's a big difference between firm encouragement and straight up emotional/verbal abuse, especially when dealing with kids. Abby Lee very much veered into the latter territory with her behavior.
This is why I couldn't help but feel a strong sense of schadenfreude when Abby Lee got busted for concealing assets when she filed for bankruptcy and ended up having to serve eight months in prison. It really felt like karmic justice being served, not just legal justice.

regards to her being kendalls manager she did that one video with her, maybe two was trying to put her against Nia because at the time Nia was getting attention from producers also recording. She lost interest very quick and shelved the rest of her music, then had the audacity to try to show interest in Niah’s recording career. It was a joke. Jill eventually sever ties with Abby as her manager, but that was conveniently once Abby was about to go to prison.

    Another tangent lmao
I'm definitely thankful for certain things that I learned in university. But overall, I felt extremely pressured into going and I absolutely regret going. Especially since the Internet has made it so incredibly easy to learn outside of school. I love being a proficient writer (I swear I'm actually really good at writing, even though my comments are always bananas ramblings here lmao) and it was pretty cool having a background in epidemiology. But overall, I would 100% argue that it's *NOT* something everyone should do and it's not the safety net that it's presented to be. Though that may have to do with me entering the adult world around the housing market collapse.
I originally went to university right after highschool, dropped out after a year, then went back at 24. So I've had a solid 9-10 years to really understand that it's not *that* much of a fall back.
Getting a trade certification is a much more solid fallback. Especially with healthcare jobs, like nursing or dental hygien. And, yeah, it's true that a lot of trade certifications can be obtained via an associates degree at community college or a private trade college/ "university". But that's definitely *NOT* the same as the college experience that's available at large universities. Like, if you wanna have the experience that you're seeing on movies & shows about college life, then you really have to go to a larger university (one with Greek life) right after high school.
But it's important to understand that a lot of people who go to university for that college experience have either considerable family contributions financially and/or hefty scholarships.
Even if you're eligible for grants and lower income scholarships, attending university right after high school is probably going to be extremely stressful and it's probably going to drown you in a lot of debt that's not actually justified via the income opportunities afforded by your degree.
A lot of university degrees offer salaries that are on the low end of middle income and the job market is extremely competitive... In case you've been wondering why so many people who have bachelor's degrees wind up going into trades or becoming TH-camrs or continuing to be a barista or a server or whatever.
Anyway, that was a much further tangent 😂😂😂
If you don't have the financial means to have university be like high school part 2, then *do not* taking attending an expensive university right after school lightly. Very seriously consider a wide range of options, including the fact that you can start university in your mid 20s and older. Like if you decide you want to go to medical school or become a professor or something. Working in a trade or lower income job your preferred industry prior to trying to get into a highly competitive career path, like becoming a medical doctor, will help you A LOT. And simply being older and wiser can make getting a fantastic GPA much easier

So for the tutoring/Kindergarten thing with Maddie, I think it’s very possible. I was a “buddy” when I was in fourth grade (like 2008ish?), for an hour twice a week I helped in my brother’s classroom (he was in 2nd). I was considered a “gifted kid” (a whole different issue in itself) so I think that’s why it was allowed. I don’t remember how it was set up or why it started though. Depends on the school, but my district did a whole peer mentor thing with ES, MS, and HS students. I was part of the mentor program in elementary and middle school, stopped in high school because of sports and work. I’m also from a small town in WI (US) so it might be different for bigger schools.

Random input: my religious school did have us teaching kindergartners how to read every morning. I think it was 3rd and 4th grade that I did that.

  • @sk8razer

7:47 this makes me so mad in the context of kids/teens & authority figures. They're not "talking back" and "being disrespectful". They're standing up for themselves because they feel that you are treating them unfairly or even cruelly.
Even if you're actually being very reasonable and your behavior is in their best interest, punishing them for standing up for themselves is *not* the move. Try explaining your reasoning more clearly. If they're just struggling to deal with their disappointment, then talk with them about *that* and help them learn how to manage that emotional without needing to lash out at someone. Because disappointment is a frequent fact of life.
Anyway, sorry for tha tangent lmao

All the dancers, Nia, Chloe, Paige, and Brooke have college educations. Maddie & McKenzie just finished high school while being home-schooled. I blame Abby & Melissa, their mother for not letting these girls have more ambition than just dance. After all, what is this going to do for them when they are 50. No big money in being a dance teacher. Well, look where Abby is now. In a wheelchair. I kind of call that Karma for the bad treatment of the other dancers except the Ziegler girls. Chloe won 1st place awards when Abby had nothing to do with it. She got the Joffrey scholarship & Maddie did NOT and she was chosen for the lead in a video that Abby could NOT make the choice. Then showed her classless self by saying it was going to Chloe's head. Maddie thought she was going to be chosen for all these awards. Also, Nia won 1st place in the last Nationals competition which proved to me she was good and did better without Abby.
