    Interesting to look back at an older iteration of the sim: Hard to say for sure given the weather, but I think it looked better (and performed better in some respects) back then, than it does now. What do you guys reckon?

    • @liamcallaghan15
      @liamcallaghan15 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m on an older system so I had to run on medium back then but now I can get up to ultra so I couldn’t say for how it looks as it’s not a fair comparison. For me it certainly performs much better now but I understand that has its downsides for people with better systems.

      This looks just awesome. Maybe i just got used to the cartoonish new look. Is this an older video, or how did you make it?

      The night lighting was certainly better earlier on. I can't remember when they really started jamming forks in the outlets and messing it up badly, but it was around SU3. 4 improved it a bit, then 5 made it horrible. The draw distance and sepia ground smear has always been the problem, and they "fixed" everything but that. I also like the clouds better back in these earlier builds as well. Current builds have way too many smooth, flat colored blobs unless the skies are very stormy and when there is detail in them it's usually pixelated. On the plus side in current builds I can get amazing ground views at a solid 30 fps at just 125 render scale and manually cranking the Usercfg file's terrain and object LOD up to 4.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think FPS has certainly been improved, but I don’t think that’s necessarily translated into smoothness (for me anyway). I’ve always run the sim on the same settings, but this was recorded on my old PC and looks to be about as good (in terms of performance) as my new PC haha. It’s difficult to say with any certainty, but I do feel as though the sim looked more realistic back then (nowadays I think it looks a bit more cartoonish).
      I was just interested to see whether it was only me finding this to be the case, or others as well.
      Cheers Liam! : )

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree Ole; I think the sim simply looks more cartoonish now. This video was recorded some time ago (not long after the CRJ was released) and I’ve only just come to upload it now. I think the lighting and colourisation was more realistic back when this video was recorded.
      I thought it was interesting to be reminded how MSFS used to look; I don’t think it was just my imagination that things have been progressively downgraded. . .
      Cheers!

    Owning this one and the PMDG Cloudmaster gave me the best planes I have ever flown. Beautyful how you present the cozy warm heated cockpits during cold rainy weather outside :) with some nice lighting and stuff.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The CRJ had its issues initially, but it seems to be a pretty solid effort these days. Aerosoft certainly did a nice job with the aircrafts systems etc and I still like to fly it in the sim myself as well (I have a few more videos in the aircraft lined up actually). I think I prefer the DC-6 over the CRJ, but a big part of that is just because it offers a nice change of pace.
      I’m glad you enjoyed the video Julia. MSFS may still have its issues, but it does weather, lighting and indeed ambience better than any other sim by far (DCS is close - when the weather system was working properly).
      Thanks very much and happy new year! : )

      Hello Into the Blue Simulations,
      A perfect example of superbly detailed wipers (linkages) and their effectiveness can be appreciated (of all places) on Train Simulator and Train Sim World.
      This feature has been available for many years on those 2 platforms.
      Even Dirt Rally has authentic ones on their cars.
      Again, it is discouraging that the newest version of our beloved Flight Simulator, did not bother including it.
      X-Plane 11 is also guilty of not implementing them.
      They do turn on (King Air C90B, MD-80, 737, Sikorsky S-76) but forget wiping away any precipitations.
      The immersion level is fascinating on approach during a very stormy night (FS9 and FSX SE with Captain Sim DLC's).
      Besides this glaring omission from all concerned, your video presentation of the CRJ, deserves nothing less
      than a standing ovation from us all.
      So long from CYUL.

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed, I had the Captainsim 757 and remember it being quite captivating. I remember Colin McRae Rally on the Xbox being the same haha. It certainly adds a lot of immersion, the little touches like that. I expect Asobo may look to address it, once DirectX 12 has been implemented.
      Thank you very much for your kind words! Very happy to hear that you enjoyed the video : )

    I can't believe I only now discovered this channel. What a great video. Now this is what I am talking about. Not only excellent professional content and tutorial but on top of that great fluid smooth visuals. Subscribed! I can't wait to finish watching this and explore your channel, but first you made me want to fly although late. I need to fire up my sim. x plane 11 as I have MS2020 Deluxe since launch last year but it didn't run well despite my high end system . Looks like it is running a lot better now. I'll wait for more payware commercial aircraft, a good ai addon and replays then I may finally start flying MS2020. But for now this is such an enjoyable appetizing flight video. Great, professional and instructive. Thumbs up!

      Thanks ever so much Vasily, much appreciated!
      Really happy to hear you enjoyed the video (and that it inspired you to fire up the sim haha). I’ve tried to give the channel its own “character” as best I can, combining some (hopefully) informative content, with some decent cinematics also. I seem to have inadvertently ended up becoming a bit of a review channel haha, but I still have quite a few flight videos also (+ most of my reviews also include a full flight).
      MSFS certainly does run better in some regards these days, but it still has quite a lot of shortfalls also. If I want to do any “serious” simming, particularly in the heavy jets, I tend to head over to X-Plane myself (I have a few X-Plane vids on the channel that you might like and a few more pre-recorded as well. I expect you might enjoy this one; as it’s multi-crew and you get to hear some insights from an engineer also; th-cam.com/video/zSZ3QkNal2M/w-d-xo.html).

    great video as always, thank you! Good the EIDW ATC in the background, but why? Would like some newer CRJ videos. I still struggle with the AP in this aircraft, it does weird stuff even now.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Oisin,
      Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it!
      I don’t like to use the default ATC in MSFS, I find it doesn’t work very well. I think quite a bit of atmosphere is missing from the flight without any ATC though (so I like to edit some in). I chose EIDW simply because it was the “closest” I could get to UK ATC. Recordings of ATC are generally prohibited in the UK, so there’s nothing available on LiveATC.net. Generally, if I can’t find the country I’m looking for, I choose the next closest ATC unit either by geography, or language / accent.
      I actually just recorded another trip in the CRJ - not sure exactly when it will be uploaded though. I’ve very much been enjoying the aircraft of late, so I’m sure I’ll record a few more flights yet. The aircraft behaved reasonably on my latest flight - certainly improved from when it was first released anyway, maybe I just got lucky though haha.
      Thanks again and all the best! : )

    The pitch, roll and yaw gyro stability are set to 2.5 in the flightmodel, which causes the strange pitch stability. Change this to 1.0 and it feels a lot better. Thanks for the video!

      Thanks very much for the info Hans! I’ll definitely have to give that a go at some point. This video was actually recorded some time ago; I tired the CRJ again just yesterday and it certainly seems to have been improved quite a bit since release - still a bit twitchy though perhaps.
      My pleasure on the video. Thanks for watching! All the best : )

    Hi, firstly a huge thank you for taking the time in creating many in-depth video tutorials and sharing your real-life pilot skills. Looking at the GPWS ‘pull-up’ alerts, does this only occur at Guernsey? The terrain on the approach climbs steeply to the runway making and so I wonder if this confuses the GPWS.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Andy, thanks very much indeed! Glad you’re enjoying the content : )
      Certainly a valid hypothesis, but I think it was just an issue with early iterations of the Aerosoft CRJ. I’m not sure Aerosoft quite modelled the GPWS as they should have done (the envelope for the callouts actually shifts, the further down the approach one gets in reality and I don’t think they had taken this into account). More recently I haven’t experienced the issue with the aircraft, so it seems as though they’ve now fixed it up (though the Guernsey scenery may well have exacerbated the issue at the time).
      Thanks very much once again and all the best!

      Hmm, as the aircraft is using the default Asobo avionics more or less, it really comes down to whether Asobo fix the autopilot behaviour I guess. That being said; I did another flight in the aircraft more recently (a couple of weeks ago) and all seemed to work ok on that occasion (perhaps I just got lucky though). . . It’d be a shame if they don’t fix up the few remaining niggles with the aircraft, it’s a very solid effort for the most part.

      Same!! Mine is maxed, and lots of videos on here look better. I think it's internet connection. Slower rendering of scenery.

      I use the “High-End” preset, running at 1080p with Motion Blur and AI Traffic off. I don’t really tweak much beyond that. I do think the sim used to look better than it does now (this video was recorded some time ago). I also think TH-cam compression tends to cover up a lot of the “blemishes” - I often think the ground scenery doesn’t look great, but it’s less noticeable in my videos. Lighting / weather makes a huge difference as well. With clear skies / direct lighting the sim doesn’t look great, throw in a bit of weather and change to early morning / late afternoon and it looks a whole lot better.
      In short, I suspect your sim looks much the same, if not better than mine; it’s just difficult to compare because of TH-cam video compression.
      All the best : )

      Internet connection for sure plays a part, although mine isn’t brilliant either. I find my ground scenery doesn’t look nearly as sharp as it seems to for some others - often quite blurry in fact. As I mentioned above, I think TH-cam compression just covers a lot of the “blemishes” that I see on-screen, I often have moments where I’m not happy with how the sim looks.
      Cheers!

      Haha, I think the sim simply looked a bit better back then + the atmospheric conditions show off MSFS at its best (and again TH-cam compression hides some off the rougher details). There’s no clever editing trickery etc on my part, with regards to how the sim looks here ; )

    Hi there, great video! Can you please comment on your Track IR5, do you recommend it? Is it really smooth and user friendly? Does it stay stable when you are looking forward or does it always keep moving a little? Thanks

      I use Trackir 5 and it's pretty much all plug and play. Only issue I have with Flight Simulator is that the game isn't in the list of recognised games (dunno if you can add to it) so after you start FS you need to tab out and select the profile you want to use for FS instead of the default. When setting up cuves on a profile you can add a deadzone around direct front which will stop that jitter. Also smoothing can dampen it when not looking at the centre too.

      Hi there Graham, thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the video!
      Sorry for the slow response, I wanted to take the time to reply properly.
      On the whole, I would say that I absolutely recommend TrackIR, but there are some caveats:
      I’ve been using TrackIR for about 15 years now and would really struggle to do without it these days. The device does some things very well, others not so much. TrackIR is very good for “moving” around the cockpit, increasing your situational awareness and overall your immersion. It isn’t all that intuitive to start with however (as it’s not 1:1 head movement vs output typically) and it can be rather clunky unless well set up.
      It can be adjusted to be quite smooth (as hopefully you’ll have seen in my video), but I find that it takes a lot of profile tweaking to get such a result. By default it feels a bit twitchy and snappy, not very smooth. I’d be happy to share my profile with you (should you wish) if you end up buying the device.
      To some degree you’ll have to “train” yourself to use it; you certainly have to move your head somewhat differently from how you’d be used to, but it becomes instinctive quite quickly (to the point now where I occasionally move my head and forget it’s not plugged in etc haha). Some people don’t like it, as it can feel quite odd to move your head in such a fashion and you’ll often find yourself moving your head one way, with your eyes looking the other (back towards the screen). The other issue it has, is it deals very poorly with light pollution. Bright light, reflections etc will throw the tracking off.
      In short though, I really like it and smoothness / stability really comes down to user setup (for which there are plenty of options to set curves, deadzones, range of movement etc, although the UI is not the most user-friendly). Once it’s nicely setup though, it’s pretty easy to use. If mine broke, I’d order another one first thing tomorrow - I suppose that says a lot.
      Let me know if there’s anything more specific you’d like to know about etc.
      Thanks again and all the best! : )

      Thanks very much for offering up the information Parabuteo.
      Just so you know, TrackIR should be able to natively pick up MSFS these days. Have you tried updating your game profiles via the TrackIR program? That should download all available profiles (including MSFS) and then the sim should be recognised on launch : )
      Cheers!

      I do indeed : )
      I tend to only “market” my videos as such where it’s relevant; ie videos like this, where it’s a commercial jet flight. I don’t really like shamelessly plugging the fact haha, but it’s no easy task gaining traction on TH-cam, so I figure every little helps. The intent of the channel was originally to make it much more focused on jet ops, but somehow I seem to have gone down the GA / review route haha. That’s fine by me though, it’s nice to do something a bit different away from work (and have more variety in content).
      Cheers Jeremy, all the best!

      Well I think I preferred being the mystery “super-pilot” then haha : P
      But yes, I do fly in the real world also. That being said, I’ve been simming pretty much my whole life and I think I owe a lot to that - one of the reasons I have such a passion for the hobby!
      I’m very happy I can put on a bit of a show, or impart a little knowledge here and there etc. That was really one of the main reasons I started the channel; to further bridge the gap between simming and the real world.
      Super glad you’re enjoying the content. Thanks very much and all the best! : )

      Haha, none taken! Generally I’d agree with you these days (back in the day, I was a big fan of the study level jets to be fair) XD
      On the whole, I think the jet stuff tends to be more popular on TH-cam, but I just make whatever video I want to make on the day. As I say, (for me personally) it’s nice to have a bit of variety though for sure.
      Ahh man. Tell me about it! I’ve been checking my emails daily to see if there’s anything from Just Flight haha. That Hawk looks like it’s going to be an awesome little jet! : D

      I agree Andrew. The sims visuals definitely took a hit with Sim Update 5 unfortunately. I get higher FPS since the update, but I’m not sure that’s translated into smoother simming. Personally I’d rather have stuck with the previous visuals and lower FPS. A shame as you say. . .

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations maybe you could do a video about this or something to try and publicise the issue? There are some threads on the forum, but they often just get shouted down by people saying there are no changes and none of the admins/devs have acknowledged the issue.

      Hi Andrew,
      I did actually carry out a full review of the aircraft when it was released and I believe I made mention of the issue during that review (I certainly made mention of the autopilot issues - although some of those seem to have been improved since).
      It’s always disappointing when a dev doesn’t want to hear about potential problems with their product and that seems to happen all too often in this hobby unfortunately. . .
