I bought your advanced course and was hoping you would explain how you set the white balance on RGB mixed light. Unfortunately that didn't happen. How do you set this? Example bed and alarm clock, car or bathroom scene. Looking forward to your answer.
Studying Realism Painting can help immensely in filmmaking. all Realism Painters know that there is no such thing as 100% pure YELLOW, there are 2 types of Yellow; Warm Yellow, and Cool Yellow. Warm Yellow has a percentage of Red, which gives Yellow a touch of Orange and always used to paint the lit areas of the scene. Cool Yellow has a percentage of Blue, which gives Yellow a touch of Green and always used to paint the areas in the shade in the scene. They never use warm yellow to paint anything Yellow in the shade or cool yellow to paint anything Yellow in contact with light. Warm colors have movement and dominance by nature making them move towards the viewer, Cool colors are the opposite, so using them the way painters do, gives the painting dimension, and makes the subject pop, even if the whole painting is YELLOW, the use of warm and cool Yellow in itself adds contrast, not to mention all the other elements that can further increase it.

Can the white balance in camera not be reduced to somewhere between 4000-4500 Kelvin, Rob? And still get that blue-ish look on the face while maintaining a somewhat warm tone for the light falling on top of the head?
The camera (BMPCC6K Pro) is stripped down to a cage and simply hanging from a heavy duty boom arm :) I would recommend attaching some sort of safety cable/strap if you're planning on hanging a camera from anything, even if it's light!
@@RobEllisCinematographer Cool, I wasn't sure if you used any particular plate or anything like that. I'm planning on doing something similar to this (also a BMPCC6k Pro) except off of a two story balcony. So plenty of straps/cables/sandbags will be involved!
To push the K above 10k, would you achieve a similar result to using a gel by adding another (bounced) light? (ie: is light "additive" to a certain extent)
Light is additive in terms of brightness/output for sure, but not temperature - if you want to change your colour temperature you need gels or you need a bi colour unit :)
My work on here so far is mainly directed toward breaking down my own setups, so it's easy to see how you can achieve these sorts of looks and learn about the processes - so I haven't really analysed any popular cinematographers' work or anything of that nature... yet! Diversifying the videos I put out on TH-cam but sticking to image making/storytelling has been on my mind for a little while, so I'll keep your idea in mind, for sure :)

I do, at the moment I'm working with the Pocket 6K Pro so I just use Blackmagic's Extended Video to get a good idea of what I'm capturing :)
