4LO wont engage unless the gearing inside the transfer box is lined up. This is common with almost all modern 4x4s that use solenoids to engage 4x4. In Neutral the gears can move and the solenoid can engage. In park or drive the gears are fixed so it won't always engage untill you start moving
Thank you so much for this video, I have always changed it while in drive seemingly fine, today I had it in low because my workshop is steep and tight to access, I replaced the breaks and reversed out but it wouldn’t exit 4wd Lo, I tried many things but it was stuck in 4 Lo, I thought I must have disturbed a wire while working on the car so I resorted to TH-cam and eventually found your video, it worked perfectly, no need to jack the car and mess around again. So relieved, thank you again!
Thank you. I did put it in N to switch to 4WDLo, but the light was blinking. You've been helpful because my bad 4WD Lo performance was terrible and the light was blinking. 👍
HELP...........I have a 2012 Nissan Navara D40 dual cab ute and my problem is i put it in to drive it changes from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and thats as far as it will go it wont change to 4th even when I swap to manual change it still wont change gear I'm hoping it needs a oil refill otherwise I dread to think anything else with the gearbox. Any ideas boys that anyone has had that problem themselves.
:-) read the manual first *** 4LO - N= NEUTRAL / 4LO will flash because the car is standing / when the car moves and the gears are engaged it will illuminate
I’ve got a 2011 r51 pathfinder, the lo light only flashes if I’ve gone from 2wd to 4 hi and then 4 lo from 2wd. If I’m in 4hi and the hubs have changed and then stop and go into 4lo, the light doesn’t flash. This morning I almost fucked my 4wd setting though. Tried testing out 4 low on road and then it got stuck in low and wouldn’t get out of it, the car diagram of the tyres disappeared and I had the “4wd” warning light in the centre of the dash illuminate. Shit myself but I’ve fixed it lol. Never put it in low range on tar road 😅
How did you manage to fix it pal .my battery went dead while it was in 4lo and now its stuck in 4lo when a try putting it to 4hi or 2wd it put on the 4wd warning light and takes the display off the dash
If he is like me - I didn't have one. LOL. Thanks to trial and error - I figured most of it out - the Gootube confirmed it and gave me even more info. LOL.

Thank you so much... I'm in Southern Africa, in a country called Botswana
This really halped me a lot
GI, good reminder. One can easily get distracted and try the slip from 2 to 4 without shifting into Neutral.
Thank you this was a really helpful video
It has to be in N to transfer fro 4 H to 4L
Can't do it during driving !
I noticed this same feature when bying my navara even tho it's manual. First I thought the lowrange didn't work at all
Thank you friend very helpful!!!
This is with all automatics. Use neutral to engage 4low. You Can't engage 4low in park as the gears are locked in place.
Very helpful and informative video thank you
Glad it was helpful!
How do I switch it back to 2wd?

Shouldn’t really use 4wd on the road at all. But I’ve done it too, no real need too unless your in snow or ice.
Manual gear
Oh okay...
Sounds like you didn’t read the manual
