Too bad I didnt have such a great teacher in my mid school. You helped me separate british from american in your videos. You also made clear so many things I kinda knew and could predict right forms but couldnt explain why if someone would like to ask me about it. I learnt english language actually myself. From games, movies etc. Never had anyone I could consult things with though my english speakin friends sometimes explained me things when I asked them for it. Thanks Elliott. You are fantastic person and teacher. All the best to you for such an amazing work 🙏
Hi. I stumbled upon your vids thru another British English teacher. Thanks for your videos, I'm learning a lot, having English as my 2nd language. You can actually venture into audiobooks, imho because I tried listening to this video without looking since I need to do something; and I hear your clear words! It's like I'm listening to the radio! Hope you can make more videos! Cheers!
Hi Elliott! First time I leave a comment on any video, guess how much I like yours! I'm a Spaniard who lived in London during 2010-11 (a year studying in Imperial College London) and I had forgotten many MANY of the things I learnt when it comes to talking. My accent is still quite bad, but thanks to you I'm refreshing all I learnt. In the end, imitation (and very demanded corrections from my English friends) is the key (the way kids learn). Until now, I didn't have any models nearby, but your examples make a huge difference, so hopefully next time I travel to London, I'll be fluent again and, maybe, with a proper accent! Thank you so much!
i really really love your videos and you! i haven' t studied or spoken English for about 10 years....And all because of you i came to love British English and study English again. Thank you!
Hi Elliot! Thank you for this new lesson! I've seen other videos on TH-cam, about the most common english words pronunciation and do you know what? I've been horrified, because a lot of English teachers teach the standard/strong pronunciation of the most common words, which is absurd in my opinion! We need to know how words sound in real conversation, in real spoken english! So thank you again for this lesson! I'm happy to find a good teacher as you! Bye
i have just came across ur channel and u have become my fav teacher already!such as great advice that none of other teachers has ever shared with me in more than last 10 years!Thank you so much for ur time sharing this vid with us :)
Thank you very much for this video. It help's me a lot. The english teachers at my school pronounce the 'th' like the 's' in 'singing'. This drives me crazy sometimes. I'm so thankful of this video and your channel.
Thank you very much Elliott ❤. I'm watching you from Syria. You're amazing and your voice is beautiful !! These videos are so helpful, l repeat every sentence you say and it helps me to talk faster and more confidently.
That's what I need ! Please, make more videos about basics. For example, "walk" and "work" or "lie" and "lay" and so on. There are many words which look simple, but their pronunciation could be tricky for non-native speakers.Cheers!
İrem Ceren Atik hi buddy, I am looking for English speaking partners, who want to improve your speaking skill, please add my Whatsapp +91 7550608933 so lets improve our English
Pimporn uamart Hi i am from 🇮🇳 and my English is not fluently so let to improve our English and I am looking for English speaking partners to improve speaking skills on whatsaap +91 7550608933 only interesting people
You know what i find weird that i've not noticed these differences in regards to the "the" word/article only when you mentioned it but i know for a fact that even though i'm not a native english speaker the brain picked up these nuances at the subcouncious level . And i found that you naturally tend to adapt as you speak without really thinking about , but i do believe that it does involve a lot of listening of the foreign language you wish to learn to be able to do that. Anyway great video ! Cheers from Romania mate haha!
Dear Elliott! I want to say thank you for your channel! My friend advised it to me as I want to sound "more British". Your short and informative videos really help me a lot to work on my pronunciation and vocabulary! However, I wanted to ask you. Please, tell me if I'm wrong. This is about the difference of pronunciation of "the"- article before vowels and consonants. I always teach my students that we pronounce [i] when there's a vowel SOUND after "the", and we pronounce [e] before consonant SOUNDS. NOT LETTERS! Of course, it is very often when a word starts with a vowel letter and a vowel sound simultaneously. The same thing with consonants. (And, as far as I know, the same rule is for articles "a" and "an"). So, let's take such word as "hour" and try to choose the correct article for it. (Let me explain using the indefinite article, that will be easier for me) . If we choose the article according to the rule that vowel letter is the marker, we will say "in half a hour". And that is definitely wrong. The correct answer is "in half AN hour" , because we take vowel SOUND as a marker. (because the word starts with diphthong and in fact has no consonants sounds at all, in spite of two consonant letters). The same thing happens with "university", "unit" but vice versa. We say "A university", "A unit" in spite of the vowel letter after the article. Because the words start with consonant sound [j]. According to the sound rule we will also say "AN umbrella" , because it starts with the short vowel sound[^]. So, "in the end of the day", LETTERS are not important for the choice. We use sounds to choose the pronunciation of the definite article "the", or make choice between indefinite articles "a" or "an". Sorry for such a long explanation, and probable mistakes as I'm not a native speaker... I'll be "over the moon" if you answer my comment. Probably you could create a video about this. It's pretty much important for non -natives. P. S. : how should we say if after "the" there is a sound [i] or [i:], for instance "the evening" or "the important fact", etc. Thank you so much anyway:))) Kind regards, ...
For a brazilian english speaker, it is very difficult to pronunciate an L in the middle of a word. Like in Miles, Tale, Middle, Wales... and the ED on words like AGED, DAMAGED, and other words terminating in AGED... if you've got a video about it, please refer it. Thank you!
Thank you Elliott. It is amazing to know you..iam a new subscriber to your channel...i'm going to learn a lot from you..ill be watching your lesson on TH-cam.. thank you once again...
Cheers Elliott!!!, Thanks God.., I found you here. Complicated words...,are nonsense, if we do not pronunce them as you, ve done on this video..!! So again Tks a lot you are very clear and take your teaching with such passion, that is also great to see soooo many people subscribing on your channel. Cheers from Buenos Aires! Seeing you on thursday.
this is so great... for a person like me who use English as second language (i mean i use american english) it never occur to me that the "the" word should be pronounced depends on what words that will follow. > the+ vowel > the+ consonant 😊😊😊😊 thanks for this video its really informative.😊
Thank you very much for it! I think simple lessons help us, at least me to build a strong basic knowledge of English and if we have the basic things, then other difficult things become simpler.
Hi sir ETJ English thank you for your videos it's amazing lesson I come from Somalia but just I stayed to London United kingdom I came to improve my education thanks ur videos
Elliott, thanks a lot for your videos. I enjoy watching them to get some extra knowledge. If you want to know the words I find hard to pronounce the words are: DREAM & LITTLE. Combination of D+R is hard to say to sound natural. BUT it's just this word. For example DRESS is okay to say. I don't know why is that, but the word DREAM is some kind of spellbound. And LITTLE is sometimes very hard to sing. Well, if you ever wonder what other words your spectators think of, try to recall these easy/hard two in some of your next videos. ;) All the best, L.

-I want to buy a new handbag -I have a question -See you in Three years -I have a dog -Dogs and cats -The capital of England is London -I went to school today -The dog lives in the island
Italians often put a " shadow" vowel at the end of words. That's another common mistake with us. Also we find it very difficult to use phrasl verbs in everyday English because we have many fewer of them in our language. How can we improve this?
Hi,Elliott, I'm very glad to talk with you .My teacher, l would like to ask you a question which it is about the phonetics and phonology, indeed, our teacher always tell us , that the first step for the learner English language should learn the phonetics and phonology why that? please reply.
Hi Elliott!!, I’m Bee from Thailand. I just watch your video about 4 or 5 time, I like and enjoy it. That’s so kind of you, thank you. I am not good in english😊 see you!!

Obviously you are one of my favorite teachers and i don’t miss your lessons and even your way to teach is so quiet and comfortable for me.. thank you
Native speakers of English should be thankful that they learnt the language without studying pronunciation.
Native speakers also learn pronunciation through hearing at home and in school etc
They learned phonics at school instead :)
Agree
Same here👍
Arabic is more complex and harder in pronunciation.
Every time I watch any of your videos I am convinced that you are the best English teacher ever.
