I need to absolutely THANK YOU today! My son is 10 and unilaterally deaf. He's NEVER been able to pronounce the 'TH' no matter how much we've tried, a hearing rehabilitation specialist recommended this video and in 14 minutes he was pronouncing it amazingly!!! From the bottom of my heart, thank you so so much
I've been using 'D' or 'F' instead of 'TH' for so long it feels weird now but I'll try to change my habits. Thank you so much for the effort you put into teaching people, it really helps ❤
I never liked the TH sound, to be honest, so all should pronounce the TH sounds like a normal D or a half D or a T or a half T / airy T etc, because TH is the one sound that keeps English pronunciation from sounding really pretty to the ear, and it makes one’s mouth look funny, and even the words can sound funny, in a way! Three should be pronounced close to tree, not like that sound that is more similar to free! Then and breathe and that etc sound way better when pronounced den / breade / dat etc than they do when pronounced the way most pronounce them, which can sound close to zat / ven sometimes! Plus, there is a way to get a sound that is similar to the TH sound without making the funny face / mouth, which sounds a tad less airy or a bit fuller!
I used to think that the TH sound came from Greek, but I recently found out that OId English also had it, unfortunately - but honestly, languages such as Modern English and Modern Welsh shouldn’t have kept the TH sound, which is far from a ‘correct’ or ‘pretty’ sound!
Besides, sometimes it does sound like sink or fink, as though one said sink / fink with food in one’s mouth and a stuffed nose - a normal tink / tenk sound (or pronounced with a half T / airy T sound) would sound way better!
Anwy, the red emoji and the word lane cannot be in someone’s name or in comments, and all unsuitable names / emojis etc must be changed / edited out, and one can just use the thumbs up emoji instead of the red emoji - love related terms and love related emojis only reflect me, and love only exists for me the only lovable / loved being!
I was struggling with the *th* sound for a very long time. I always knew that I mispronounced the sound all the time but Couldn't fixed it. But now It's all clear to me. This video is very very helpful. Thanks.
I really like the way you explain, because lot of teachers forget that they speak to non native and they use difficult words and speak fast. But you're different and I'm really ˈθæŋkfəl.
Hello. That's Alex from Linosa island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, Italy. Many compliments on your lessons as I can really feel your great passion in teaching English. I do love British English. I remember how much training and ear training I did in the past to produce English sounds and now I am very content to hear people saying: "Hey, you speak with a British accent"! Thank you very much indeed. All the best. Alex :-)

I have to thank you for your videos, especially this one. As a native french speaker, I never was able to pronounce the TH properly, simply because that sound doesn't exist in french. I'm in Quebec Province, Canada, so I'm surrounded by english speakers, but I never was able to do it. Thank you, from.the bottom of my heart, for your help. I will do my best to chnage my habits. Anwy, dis is tick (faux) leadder definitely sounds better and more natural than fzis is fick leazzer!!! Besides, for some, it is a conscious choice to pronounce the TH like a D or T or a mix of T and some other letter - so it doesn’t mean one isn’t a native English speaker if one doesn’t pronounce the TH the way most native English speakers do! Like, in my case - I choose to pronounce the T as a D and in some words as a T or a mix of T and another letter or a half T etc, depending on the word! When the word mother was pronounced in the video after the other words with TH in them, it literally sounded like moDDer, so many times people pronounce it as a D or close to a D without even realizing, because the TH sound isn’t a natural sound that one would naturally make, and one must be trained to make that sound! And it really does sound kinda funny (it even gives me drunk person vibes) so, I don’t see why would people want to sound that way!?!
If one listens to it closely when certain words such as think / thick / thank are pronounced, one notices that it really does sound like sink / fink / fenk but with an extra sound like an airy undertone and a buzzey undertone sometimes, and in some words, it sounds similar to a stronger buzzing sound, and in words like mother and breathe etc, it sounds like a D + a drunkeh airy tone / undertone, so I always find it funny, plus it also makes one’s tongue come out through one’s teeth, which looks funny - so I stopped pronouncing the TH that way when I realised that it made my mouth look funny! I don’t know who came up with that sound, but it’s one of those sounds that never should have been invented LOL! It’s not even a natural sound, which is why one has to ferce the tongue in an unnatural tongue position to get that sound, because one’s tongue isn’t supposed to be coming out through the teeth or out of the mouth, and it is supposed to be behind the teeth at all times, so if one pronounces the TH that way, it makes sense that one is also going to feel discomfort and get tired (and find it difficult) esp when one has to say multiple words (that have a TH sound) in a row! Besides, sometimes it sounds like sink or fink, as though one said sink / fink with food in one’s mouth and a stuffed nose - a normal tink / tenk sound (or pronounced with a half T / airy T sound) would sound way better! My daughter used to pronounced the "W" sound in place of the "L" sound. For example "Look" would be pronounced "Wook". I began to teach her to correct this by having her say "Little Lucy Loves Lemons". It worked very well.
As an ESOL teacher, I watched tonnes of videos of these two sounds. I can say with confidence that this is the best presentation, but if I am to recommend this to my students you need to slow down a bit. Cheers!
I wish to say thanks, Elliott! I’ve only recently discovered your channel, and I watch your pronunciation videos everyday since. I am trying to replace my American accent. I have found confidence in myself, because of your teachings. I would love to join your course, when I become in a position to do so. Cheers! Stay safe and thank you loads
Greetings from Malaysia! Hope you stay safe in UK. This episode is really helpful😂Most of the Malaysian pronounce TH as just T sound.Let me give you an example: ''How do you call that thing with a trunk and lots of leaves on it?'' ''Tree'' ''Then what is the number after two?'' ''Tree'' 😂😂😂
I'm new here and I've been watching your videos recently and it is really a great help for me to pronounce the 'th' sound. Im always embarrassed to say that sound like the word, earth, mouth, that and etc. my mouth became stiff using 'th' sound but now I'm getting confident saying it. thank u sir elliot.
I was thinking this through :after three months of isolation, I' ll be thrilled to bits to go out. The threat is still there but.... right into the thick of things. 👊Take care.🇮🇹🇮🇸
I didn't know I was misspronouncing this sound until now. There's always something to improve. Thank you fot the video, it's really helpful now we just have to work on it.

Dude, why your voice is so soft and smooth? It makes more interesting for me to go through the whole lesson. Like, you are just FAB! And I feel like your lessons have got the real thing.
Really good explanation. For us Spaniards these sounds are quite easy as we have them in European Spanish. I found it intriguing though when you spoke about the partially voiced consonants at the end of words. I have a hard time distinguishing them from unvoiced ending consonants. Maybe that's an idea for a future video. Cheers!
Elliot, Thank you so much for producing this video. This is very helpful. Many of my students did not know how to pronounce the 'th' sound. This is really good. Great job!
I’m very glad to found you, i always struggeled with the accent, i’m pretty well in English but my accent is awful and i wanted to improve it, and the problem was nobody helped me, because they didn’t know even, so i started to search by myself and find what is missing in my accent and pronuncitaion, so i satrted all over again like a child learning a new language😅 and i descovered that i have many mistakes, and one by one i fixed them untill i got to the TH sound, and because, it’s hard but i will do it, and because of you i will succeed, thank you for your videos they are really helping, and in the future if i had a child i will absolutely send him/hed to a British school or bring a British teacher, because really this is it the right English if somebody wants to learn English THANK YOU 🙏🏻
My favorite teacher ✌❤ teatcha like your voice 🤣❤ I'm Syrian and I am learning British and I am following up on all your videos that have strengthened my rates at university 💙💙
Your videos are so helpful! I realised how weird my accent was when I started streaming few months ago and few people asked if I'm Russian (I'm Croatian). Also, when I try to sound more British, my British friends think I'm mocking them bc I'm still in the 'drama phase' haha
It’s because no matter how many years you speak English, this isn’t your first language and you will always have your own accent, and for you sounds good but actually is weird when you try to make an accent that isn’t yours. Just don’t it. Speak the way you should speak and it will sounds more natural.
Thank you. Simple, clear explanation & easy to understand for non native speaker like me. Help me a lot in improving my English language. Infinity thumbs up. 😊😊😊
Hi Elliott, this video was very useful! like the other ones as well :) So I just wanted to thank you 🙏 I hope to improve my accent with your lessons because I love British accent so much. 🖤 By the way you are an awesome teacher! I'm grateful for what you are doing and happy that I got to find your channel. All the best!
Greetings from Greece! We have θ and δ in our alphabet so it's easy for us! On the other hand and the letters R and T are very hard to pronounce British and not American! Thank you for your videos
The big terms Angel and the best and words like teacher only reflect me, and cannot be misused by hum’ns, and letter combinations like len / char also cannot be in someone’s name or yt name, and all unsuitable names must be changed, and all unsuitable terms must also be edited out / changed - I am the only Angel / Saint / God(dess) / Lady / Princess / Queen / Leader / Star etc and any other big terms and nature related terms, and big compIiments only reflect me, and words like teacher also only reflect me, and cannot be misused by hum’ns, because teacher contains words like tea and cher (meaning expensive in French) that only reflect me, and that are the exact opposite of hum’ns, so a new word must be invented to refer to people that teach, or one can just use the word professor!

So, can you please make a video about it? about THS and the end of the word jejeje. Thank you again!

My daughter used to pronounced the "W" sound in place of the "L" sound. For example "Look" would be pronounced "Wook". I began to teach her to correct this by having her say "Little Lucy Loves Lemons". It worked very well.
Your accent enlightens the darkness and gives everyone peace hahaha btw hello from Turkey 🤗
Love from Thailand, thank you for good content
Greetings from Malaysia! Hope you stay safe in UK.
This episode is really helpful😂Most of the Malaysian pronounce TH as just T sound.Let me give you an example:
''How do you call that thing with a trunk and lots of leaves on it?''
''Tree''
''Then what is the number after two?''
''Tree''
😂😂😂
Thank you, Elliott. You help me a lot increase my skill in British English.
Been enjoying your coaching since I started watching and listening. Thanks Elliot!
I'm new here and I've been watching your videos recently and it is really a great help for me to pronounce the 'th' sound. @@Rafael-xu9cn oi então eu falo português também tem uma professora do canal inglês da luiza que ela ensina a fazer o som do th, ela diz para você falar o s com a língua presa e é o th sem voz para o com voz você fala o z. Talvez te ajude
Without being a native speaker, now i can actually speak somehow more like a native one because of your generosity over the year to us.I hope one day I'll able to enroll your online course for further improvement.
I always have so much fun trying to do as you say😄
This is really important lesson! Thank you Elliot
Thank you so much Sir. I have been learning English pronunciation from your channel
Thank you for your video content. I struggle with this sound and these video was super helpful. 🙏🏻
This sound is nearly imposibble for us Turkish people, thanks for the tips and examples Elliott, this is a great channel I'm so happy to have found it🖤
The word celi and the love related emoji and big terms like great only reflect me, and cannot be in someone’s name or yt name or comments etc, and must be edited out / changed, and all unsuitable names must be changed, and one can just use the thumbs up emoji instead of the love emoji, and words such as helpful or informative etc must be used instead of great - love related terms and big compIiments and love related emojis only reflect me, and love only exists for me the only lovable / loved being!
Nothing better to hear your pronounciation lesson during quarantine.
Thanks Elliot, just what i needed thanks!
That /ðiː/ vs. /ðə/ - is an amazing tip!
Thank you for that!
Really appreciate your effort dear Elliot. Keep going
Such a great video... I didn’t know the differences between the voiced and unvoiced TH sound... first time I hear about it. Thank you so much 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👌
Your video is helpful for me! Nice to see ur new video again!!!^^
Hey Elliot, I just wanna thank you because your videos really helped me to understand British English when I was learning english back in 2017.
I dont know why its easier for me to learn the british accent than the american accent. Maybe because your so good. Thanks a lot.
Hello Elliott! I hope you are doing well ❤ thanks a million that's was wonderful and helpful. 😍
Thank you for this wonderful lesson Master! :) Love and salute from Korea!
Cheers!
Many thanks, best mentor. I have learned the proper th sound today.
Hello, sir i have been watching your channel since January 2020 and it's very helpful for me, from India. thanking you...
Thanks for staying with me since January! stay safe
You are an excellent teacher. Thanks A greeting from Argentina.
Elliot, Thank you so much for producing this video. This is very helpful. Many of my students did not know how to pronounce the 'th' sound. This is really good. Great job!
In love with your accent😍😄
I’m very glad to found you, i always struggeled with the accent, i’m pretty well in English but my accent is awful and i wanted to improve it, and the problem was nobody helped me, because they didn’t know even, so i started to search by myself and find what is missing in my accent and pronuncitaion, so i satrted all over again like a child learning a new language😅 and i descovered that i have many mistakes, and one by one i fixed them untill i got to the TH sound, and because, it’s hard but i will do it, and because of you i will succeed, thank you for your videos they are really helping, and in the future if i had a child i will absolutely send him/hed to a British school or bring a British teacher, because really this is it the right English if somebody wants to learn English THANK YOU 🙏🏻
I definitely enjoyed watching your videos. I couldn't wait to watch the next video. Thank you
You are the best teacher ever... Thank you very very much!!!
Greeting from Chile. I love british accent ❤️

I love you. I love every lesson of yours.
Thanks Elliott .every day i listen to your lessons. There are so useful. Thanks .
Extremely useful . Thank you so much 😍.
I've been watching your videos for a year now. A lot has changed, indeed. Cheers xx
Yes!🤓 I love it. ..thx ETJ
Thank you Elliott from Russia♡
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your appreciation. Take care
Greetings from Greece! We have θ and δ in our alphabet so it's easy for us! On the other hand and the letters R and T are very hard to pronounce British and not American! Thank you for your videos
Can you do a video about the British English speaking rhythm? Cause there’s a big difference between the accents and languages.
Thank youuuu😊 This was perfect👍
Now this is my new lockdown routine..learning better English with ETJ
Hi there. Love your haircut really suited you👍🏼😎
Thank you very much, all your videos are very helpful for improving my English skills.
Hope you are alright.
Hugs from Spain 🔥🔥🙈
Muchas gracias
Thank you! I love your advice! Greetings!
I like your pronunciation. You sound like a high society gentleman with an Oxford education from 1900ss.
There are teachers galore out there, but you are the best. Grateful, as always! 😊
I appreciate that! Thank you so much 🙂🙂
The big terms Angel and the best and words like teacher only reflect me, and cannot be misused by hum’ns, and letter combinations like len / char also cannot be in someone’s name or yt name, and all unsuitable names must be changed, and all unsuitable terms must also be edited out / changed - I am the only Angel / Saint / God(dess) / Lady / Princess / Queen / Leader / Star etc and any other big terms and nature related terms, and big compIiments only reflect me, and words like teacher also only reflect me, and cannot be misused by hum’ns, because teacher contains words like tea and cher (meaning expensive in French) that only reflect me, and that are the exact opposite of hum’ns, so a new word must be invented to refer to people that teach, or one can just use the word professor!
Dis is tick (faux) leadder definitely sounds better than fzis is fick leazzer!!!
Thank You so much for such a useful and joyful lesson, my best wishes from Egypt. Good luck.
You’re best ever ever teacher in the world i never seen before
GODBLESS YOU (
Off you go my greatest teacher, thank you a lot , really it's fabulous.
How should I pronounce clothes and months ?
Thanks teacher
Thank you so much for this video. I still remember the first time I was able to say a word with a th sound, that was amazing but, what it's really tricky for me is when that word comes in plural like months, thoughts, and some others that I can't remember just right now. So, can you please make a video about it? about THS and the end of the word jejeje. Thank you again!
It happens all the time also with my students, it needs process to make them get used to it. Well it because it's not their native language. Greeting from Indonesia. Love to see your video
Indeed. The TH sound is only in approximately 7.5% of the languages of the world
Could you please give us a lesson about the difference between do you have and have you got? Thanks Elliot.
Hi Eliott, I am considering to sign up for you pronounciation course. The only thing that holds me is whether I should buy the longest subscription or a bit shorter. I am worried that if I take the longest I won't be that motivated to go through the lessons in a shorter period of time. From the other hand, I work full time and I have got other commitments too so it would be great to do it without any pressure.
Love u la teacher. Love from sarawak Malaysia.
