    According to me it Bangrak is a great place to have a drink. It's not the beach I prefer.
    It's a kind of "center town" with all the services (shops, doctor...).

    I've lived in Chaing Mai for 5 years. I've been to Koh Tao and Koh Phangan for extended stays, but only stayed in Samui for 1 night. Where would you or anyone viewing this comment recommend I stay in Samui for 1 month (March or April)? 2 adults and 1 infant. I'd prefer on or near the beach. Semi modern, comfortable, pool, AC...Budget 25K baht.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim, with a family and 25K budget you might look at moderately priced villas or apts (vs hotels). AirBnB can be pricey but worth a look. FB groups usually have good options IF it's a group mixed with owners and agents (vs only agents sites/pages). Google 'Koh Samui Room/House Rent Groups'.
      Here's one: facebook.com/groups/971482609575288/
      Note there's some decent looking small bungalows with shared pool from 6-12K currently. Not certain what prices will look like come March. However, I recall pre Koh-Vid you could still get modest bungalows and apts etc under 12K and under 10K even.
      Would NOT pre-book unseen (unless referred by a friend who stayed there etc). Instead would book a few nights in a hotel 1st (Bangrak or elsewhere central and reasonable) then make a list of places to check out. If no car, hire a tuk-tuk or car for the day to go look (also BB Car Rent in Bophut has great monthly car and bike rental rates). After selecting a place, still would not sign a month deal just yet. Would ask for a higher daily rate to first test sleep for a couple nights and if all suits, sign and blend it into the monthly rate.
      There's also several nice bungalow style hotels on Bangrak beachfront + Bang Po, Lamai, etc which also have monthly rates. Again, best to book a couple days 1st then have a look around on the ground.
      STL

      @SideTripLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks AK! Still liking my Vivo x50 pro with the builtin gimbal but have really given it a pounding. Dropped it many times, cracked it etc etc but she somehow keeps working (thankfully I might add!)
      Here's a review if anyone is curious:
      th-cam.com/video/AxZojlP1nSs/w-d-xo.html
      I like the simplicity of using 1 device and the one I carry all the time anyways just makes sense. But if I can I will upgrade to the new X60 Pro+ (or X70 coming soon too) as it has the gimbal on the WIDE angle camera this time (x50 gimbal is on main camera and POV is too narrow). Also with f1.57 for excellent low light and it's still way cheaper than an iPhone or Samsung, bonus! Just need to add a Rhode go 2 wireless mic (to cut wind and get clearer audio when on bikes etc) but at $300 will hold off as cost must be justified by YT earnings.

    • @WadersInAlaska
      @WadersInAlaska 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SideTripLife That's good to know! I am always looking for a more simplified, "on-the-go" style of filming for my road ready kit. This may be it! I appreciate your input! The wireless mics are soooo nice. Cheers!!

      Thailand still the best imho but like anywhere in the world, there's no certainties with this thing. Another viewer just posted a question on my prev vid asking if they should book for Oct to Koh Lanta? Here was my reply:
      ------------------
      I feel for your predicament & others wanting to book as it's extremely difficult to know what may occur in the future with any certainty really. However, if anyone is going to go ahead and book anyways, best book direct with airline as you have a better course to cancellation recompense. Also only book any hotel which offers full cancellation refunds (same via booking platforms).
      As vax continues to ramp up (thus cases etc go down) then more areas could begin to open up.
      On that note, the Thai Govt has just approved travel from Phuket Sandbox to Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi, Railay and Koh Yao Yai/Noi after just 7 days on Phuket (reduced from 14 previously). Can read more here:
      www.bangkokpost.com/business/2153291/new-phuket-rule-passes
      So, one hopes this can extend to Krabi/Ao Nang/Koh Lanta in near future. But again, like anywhere on the planet at the moment, one cannot know the future with any certainty. Sorry, that's the best I can offer.

    I get the feeling you vloggers have all been paid to go to Samui ... can't explain it otherwise why you all descended on the same place, at the same time, only report positively and right before the reopening of Samui. 🤔

      Actually, if you look back at my vids you'll see I left Bangkok to spend a few days in Khanom just before the 3rd wave. That was 3 months ago and have been down here ever since (but according to your theory I pre-planned all this lol;). You'll also see I've pointed out that many biz are vacated & for rent and sadly people are really hurting here. However, it's also great to see some wee signs of life and some hope too. May it continue despite the obvious challenges. Cheers

      Samui Plus, Third Wave, Bangkok Lockdown and many of the vloggers know each other. Do you know what they say about Occam's Razor?

      SR et tu? (lol;) As Friar Ockham himself also said: "The simplest explanation is usually the best one" (and in this case the correct one;) Anyways, sorry to disappoint but I'm more of a Gillette guy and generally just keep to meself. Great thread tho 555!

      @@SideTripLife I was agreeing with you. This isn't exactly a coincidence, because of the "environmental" factors, but it is ridiculous to make a conspiracy out of it. lol.

      @Sheshank Reddy Oops, my bad 555! I thought you may be implying this was planned and that we were unnecessarily multiplying here or something LOL! (I should have known that was off for you SR ;) Anyways, for anyone looking in, again, I've been here a while before lockdown and just doing my own thing, as always. Cheers!
