    We have had Royal Enfield for like 50yrs it's heritage grandfather passed it to my father and in 2014. I got my hands on it.
    It's 1959 g2 my dad kept it alive and was kept away for 10yrs restored it to it's glory and man that machine is just awsome.
    I ride her everyday keep her clean and work on it every weekends it has some oil leakage and some small issues with Amal carbs but it's the best time it's like meditation.
    I had no clue about working on it but a great guy thought me how naggy she is and if pampered can give you the best time.
    I still look at her the way I use to when I was 10 yr old. the old g2 has a really beautiful note which is loud but hits the sweet spot the thump is simply awsome
    Most imp issue is morning start up trying to start her is biggest hurdle in the morning .
    Indians love Enfield and the history it has with it.
    I don't know a timeless piece like 'Enfield' could be ever be replaced, I really loved the way you kept your bike clean and pampered it trust me Enfield needs to be pampered and loved or else it shows nasty attitude specially mine which kind of marks it's own territory 😂on it's own...great ride hope you keep that engine thumping around😉.

    Can you say: "old school macho"! A biker I met at a bike show had an Enfield and thinking they were no longer produced, I commented on what a nice restoration he did on the bike. Restoration, this is a new bike he replied! He went on to tell me that he had an Japanese Crotch Rocket and a Harley, but he enjoyed riding his Enfield more! I like all the Enfield models but for me personally, I prefer the Himalayan model!

    This is perfect as a day to day bike. I replaced the FI with a carb as the injection will fail under very cold and damp weather for starting up. Now it is just the best machine I ever owned. Not a lot of power, but superb torque and enough to keep up on motorway with two people and luggage. No sweat working all day long. Very fun, good brakes, supension and hard as nails. If you don' t trust your local garage you got a bike that can have anything done or repaired with basic tools and little knowledge without any person to help you(not like you' ll need it very often).
    For over a year this one (ABS model) has been my only vehicle and I am really happy with it. It is a super bike! And please, don't consider it a "weekend ride", this one is really a good, practical and fun machine with an excellent price

      Never had trouble starting mine in any weather, and would always kick start on the first or second kick, I loved to use the kick starter, my electric starter. hardly ever got used. If they had a dealer in PEI I would be getting another one. I put a lot of Km on my bikes so like a dealer close, plus the fact it cost close to $50 to get of the Island which I don't think we should have to pay, to use the bridge.

    Nice bike mate, I have a 2002 model,(UK spec) and it's done over fifty thousand kilometres now. No electric start on mine, I just prime the cylinder with one kick switched off, take the piston just over the top, switch on and kick, and away she goes.

    Kick starting - The EFI really does only require a lazy prod, but all the way through to the end of the stroke. Pulling the clutch in will free off the clutch and turn the gearbox over and stir up the oil in there, not sure if it aids starting but it does stop it lurching going into 1st. The ignition runs up the fuel pump and this seems to prime the injector (rather like tickling a carburettor), so if she doesn't start first time, switch off and back on and wait for the MIL lamp to go out. The cold start is an air bypass that raises the idle speed and enriches the mix slightly for starting, use it with a closed throttle; when the motor is hot use almost full throttle and not the cold start. The kick should only be a lazy prod all the way through to the end of the stroke, no leaping up and down.

    Thanks Aaron for this review. I have been chewing over whether I would need to repaint the new green 500 Classic that I haven't even bought yet. You really have made a terrific job with yours. I'm impressed. The gloss gives a beautiful depth to the colour which I think is way better than the factory matt finish. In fact, the factory matt green looks more like a model-makers colour.

    Hey Aaron , I have the squadron blue version of the same motorcycle . I have switched to synthetic oil , filled a kg of lead shots into the handlebar and changed the mirrors . That along with patient running , the engine really settles down to a point where the vibes aren't annoying anymore , way upto 125 kmph.
    Hope these helps , Although the glossy green looks novel , I personally liked the matte version as it enhances the rugged look of the bike . Cheers

    great video, wonderful that you used the audio track to talk rather than the usual terrible music, usually loud and too hot in the treble I love a tach on a bike, I don't watch it, but use it to memorize the engine pitch at certain revs, usually peak torque and about 2.000 below red line once these are memorized I would happily swap a tach for a fuel gauge, love the polish, think it looks better than mat to me bikes are meant to be shiny

    I can definitely tell you love this bike! It's absolutely amazing how much you have improved it with these modifications as such. I love the glossy look of the green better than the matte. It looks so nice! Great job! I have a 2007 Suzuki S83 Boulevard 1400 and I would love this as a second bike for trail riding. I'm very interested, and they're starting to get a bit popular in the USA. I'm torn between the classic and the new 650 Interceptor. I love the Kickstart and that and the beautiful classic look of the classic, but I may be leaning towards the Interceptor if the Kickstart is pretty much useless which is disappointing to say the least. Great video and enjoy your Royal Enfield. ☺️

    • @aaronb.6543
      @aaronb.6543  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much. I truly do love my bike. Our time on the road together is always a pleasure. I also like the interceptor look as well but my heart is with the Classic 500. The organic sound and feel is unlike any other bike I have ever ridden. The kick start frustrations i experienced early on have virtually disappeared over time. (Enfields have a tendency to mature very nicely) I pretty much never use the electric start anymore. Its simply a matter of a steady and deliberate follow through right to the end of the kick cycle one or two times and it starts. My personal advice is to go with the Classic. The UCE 500 engine has been in production for quite a few years now and the fine tuning over that time has made it a really beautiful and reliable machine. One thing I also know for sure...people who own the Classic 500 always look back over their shoulder one more time for a look when they park it and walk away. I know I do. Every single time. Whichever you choose I wish you many years of good times with it.

    Those knobby tyres can be darn dangerous riding on roads. In 1972 I hit a car as the driver of the car turned without care , I braked hard but my Honda SL 350 kept on sliding forward due to very little rubber grip and I hit the side of the car rather hard. Not injured but my foot was hunting like hell . My gear lever cut a hole in the hub cap of the car. I believe had I been riding on the original trail tyres my bike would have stopped before hitting the car. But your Classic 500 in green looks very nice indeed.

    Hey man, you did really good. It looks really nice, kinda funny, even though it's not old, not so much British, and no longer Carbureted , yet it's still British as in "won't start" without a whole lot of fiddling with! She looks really nice, I've got two Older bikes from the '70's and '80's and they're carbureted so there's some fiddling around with them sometimes!

    Cheers Aaron - about to purchase a Chrome Classic 500 in a few weeks and it appears from my reading and watching reviews of other RE-500 owners that these bikes significantly improve with running in from 10k onwards. There is a lot of info out there about how to run the RE in properly in conjunction with the owners manual - check out some of the other British owner reviews and you will find much of this information in the comments sections. Once run in properly other owners have had the RE-500 up to 130kph without vibration and a general dampening of any significant vibration at all other speeds - the idea is to get the pistons and rings bedded and seated properly, which with this big single Cyl thumper accounts for much of the early vibes that most people complain about from little more than a test ride. Run it in and you should be golden! And I must repeat it, these are British bikes, by British design ... Indian made - not JUST Indian bikes.

    • @aaronb.6543
      @aaronb.6543  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The run in period properly managed is the best investment we can do for these bikes. My bike moves along at 120 very smoothly now. The sound improves as well. It gets a much deeper tone. The only thing I don't like are the long scooter style mirrors. I switched them to a lower heavier mirror and it made a huge difference.

    • @indianguy6294
      @indianguy6294 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Velo In The Vale - Yes the company started out as British and during its early years they manufactured bikes both in England and India. But some time during the 60's the British manufacturing unit went bust leaving only the Indian unit functioning. In 1994 an Indian motor company bought the Royal Enfield and is now wholly owned by them. And yes the Royal Enfield classic bikes were designed in Britain but the newer models like Royal Enfield Continental GT and the Himalayan among others are completely designed, manufactured and exported from India. So any Royal Enfield bike you see on the road is made in India. It has become an Indian company now.

    That's a really cool looking bike. I like the Battle green, as it's very suited to the overall style and utilitarian purpose of the classic. I'm torn between this color and the chrome (can only have one) and just think the green will be easier to maintain for the long-haul. Thanks for the video.

    Yes when you run in a new bike you get false neutrals and also over heating. you should ride about hour and stop. then two and then five. this allows the bike engine metal to heat up and cool down as it is air cooled.

    Better get it checked out I had one and never took more than 2 kicks to get it started and most of the time first kick, I would put between 200 km and 500 km per day and never had a problem with the vibration it did vibrate but never enough to bother me. If they had a dealer on PEI I would have one in my stable. I now have the Versys 300 X and the Suzuki s 40 love them bough but would love to add a couple of Royal Enfield . I to had it in green and had the army type steel bags for it, Should never got rid of it, a great fun bike to ride, and did gravel roads as if it was a dire bike.

    Great video, Aaron. The exhaust is called 'Long Bottle Punjab' in India. I have to say that you haven't gone overboard with the customisations. After a very, very long while, I've come across a Royal Enfield which has been customised to enhance its heritage.
    From a fellow Royal Enfield owner,
    Respect.

      Thank you very much. Sometimes the hardest thing about customizing is knowing when to stop. I have stopped. Now I just enjoy the ride.

    • @jeffslade1892
      @jeffslade1892 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is the stock exhaust. The silencer weighs about 14-lb and it is rather restrictive. I christened it "towing-a-log". Whilst there are a number of generally "free-flow" exhausts available in North America and the UK, they are not quite the same as those in India. In the UK they have to be road-legal, that doesn't mean they have to be quiet. Whilst a completely straight though exhaust may give a bit more power at the top end, lack of back pressure from baffles ruins the low to mid-range torque. They can develop an annoying habit of leaking at the head, copper gasket p/n 582638/A solves that.

    When you're riding switch off the engine kill switch hold it in full throttle while holding the throttle switch on the engine switch on there you go a loud pop it's really good

    Heading out for a test ride today! I'm checking out a matching sidecar as well. Did you have cable length issues when replacing the handlebars? 2000 km break in period? All the modifications look great! I like the black spokes!

    • @aaronb.6543
      @aaronb.6543  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello...The cable lengths were no problem at all with the handle bar change. And yes, the break in period is 2000kms. Its well worth it to keep things under control during that time. Take care and let me know if you get that sidecar!

    Thank you Aaron for a great and outstanding review. Rescently I was lucky to get a RE Black Tribute #0986 and so far i love the bike. I`m living in Sweden , so the weather conditions in Oct-April are pretty rough, but I´ve been riding so far 300miles in cold, heavy rainy weather:) I have been watching your video quite a lot of times and I must say you´ve done a great job and put a personal touch on yor bike-just love all of your extras
    I would love to ask you a question: Please, Im considering put on the same tires as yours, and would appreciate a lot of you give me a hint how do the tires experience on asphalt riding, and how much comfort is lost compared to the original tires ?
    Greetings from Sweden ;

      The pavement driving on those tires feels very similar to the original tires. They a a little noisy at high speed and the bike sits about an inch taller.
