the fact that Silco spits at Vander for caring more for his adoptive daughters than Zaun and how Vander gave up fighting to get their own nation for his daughters and then 10 years later Silco is doing the same thing, and that *he acknowledges he's doing the same thing* because he said "is there anything as undoing as a daughter?" and that he knew right then and there he would never give up Jinx for Zaun even if he knows it's hypocritical, but that Jinx didn't understand the context so she misread it is all one huge messy beautiful tangle of emotion that really rips me up

This show has one of the best character developpements ever. When he was first introduced, Silco was mad at Vander for trying to stop him from waging war against Piltover, and denying "the Nation of Zaun" only because Vander cared too much about his supposed daughters. And ten years later Silco literally does the same thing. That's why he sat in front of Vander's statue when he was considering it. Also in the first episode Silco says "Power comes to those who would do anything to achieve it." and in the last episode he says he wouldn't have given up Jinx no matter what, not even to achieve the power he always dreamed and worked for. It's these details that make me truly admire a show.

    • @AntonioMac3301

Love how the show breaks character molds. Examples include:
    - Jinx being a genius that def needs some help instead of the typical chaotic villain always having a blast
    - Vi having streetsmarts and recognizing certain details to be clever which shows she's more than some hotheaded thug. And she has experienced lots of trauma and pressure meaning she is not just strong physically but also emotionally and mentally
    - Vander being practical and forward about the realities he, Vi, and the gang were facing rather than being the “I said so” type (credit to Mackie Lunkey in the replies btw)
    - Silco somewhat resembling a parental figure to Jinx in his own way with a high level of trust but also being conniving to the point where people argue on whether or not he was good for Jinx
    - Caitlyn's parents being understanding in some cases rather than following the typical rich snobby parents that only cares about image
    - People actually getting injured, bruised, bleeding but not overdoing it that way the fight scenes are somewhat realistic and it’s as if you can feel their pain
Unrelated but honorable mention: The soundtrack, both songs with vocals and instrumental scores, are a work of art

The thing that impressed me most about Arcane was that the show wasn't scared to be Visceral. There are moments that will and are designed to make you uncomfortable. From Powder's screaming fit in episode 3 to the child cracking on the ground in episode 8, this show is not afraid to turn it up to 11 when it needs too. It's been a hot moment since an animated show has had the balls to show me dark things to indicate something's fucked, and I'm really happy that Arcane is willing to go that extra mile to make the story impactful.

I found the Vi/Caitlyn relationship pretty believable tbh. Caitlyn has demonstrated she is open to change and does care about the Lanes, and has helped Vi and saved her atleast once or twice (by freeing her from prison, and then saving her from Sevika and getting her medicine).
Moreover in the talk with Ekko, Vi is visibly moved by Caitlyn’s admitting she was naive about the truth and her desire to help the Lanes. The whole relationship is about how two opposite sides of the conflict can work together and come to understand one another.
By the end they have gone through some stuff and can depend on one another. The time period was short but it was packed with these moments of clarity and understanding so by Act 3, it felt realistic that both developed camaraderie and understanding for each other. Both learned that the other side wasn’t “bad” as they thought, and that they could at least depend on and trust each other.

It's so small, her sort of averting her eyes and clutching her big sister, retreating behind her a bit like she's almost hiding from the sight. And her eyes look up to Vi, like she's looking towards her for how to react, and her eyes glaze over. Then she starts crying as Vi sobs. That's SO fucking realistic. THAT is how a child reacts in such an overstimulating, traumatic environment. They started out (understandably) suspicious of each other but hardly outright enemies, then set out to accomplish a common goal and quickly went through some extremely dire and emotionally-charged situations together, both saving the other multiple times in the process and all around doing plenty to earn each other's trust. Add a pretty apparent romantic/physical attraction to that ("You're hot, cupcake" literally in like their fourth scene together, plus all the little cheek strokes, and the scene on the bed in ep 8) and it's not at all unreasonable that they could very quickly form a strong emotional bond. Just look at all the historical epidemics of overnight romances during wartime to see that times of crisis tend to speed things up a lot.

They only knew other for a short period, but in this short period they went through a ton of eye opening events that displayed both of their true chatacters and helped to facilitate that loyalty and camaraderie between the two.

i agree, they never hated each other, they just didn’t know each other and had bias towards the others identity. like of course vi wouldn’t like an enforcer after an enforcer killed her parents, and caitlin simply wasn’t taught right about the undercity. throughout their relationship, they had plenty of banter that eventually turned into friendly jabs. it wasn’t sudden at all to me.

    SPOILER ALERT:
I love how the ending is mirroring what happened in Act 1: We have someone who has worked all of his life for a cause and for his people, and the moment he can achieve his goals in exchange for his adoptive daughter he realizes he's unable to let her go (first Vander with Vi, then Silco with Jinx). At the same time, both deaths are Powder/Jinx's fault and both are important moments in defining Jinx's personality and identity.
Apart from that, in both situations everything would have been ok without Jinx: The kids had freed Vander and were ready to go, but Jinx screwed it up, killing them, while at the end of act 3 the council had just agreed on going the peaceful route and everyone would have gotten what they wanted, but Jinx completely fucked it up.

Wrong about one thing: Arcane IS DIRECTLY tied in to League's lore. Everything that happens in the show is a precursor to who the characters finally end up being as we see them in the game, like Jinx getting her pink eyes, Vi getting her gloves, Singed experimenting on Vander to eventually become Warwick, so on and so on.

    • @lachlanwu2838
      @lachlanwu2838 3 ปีที่แล้ว +38

Vander becoming Warwick is heavily hinted at but not fully confirmed at any point.
Additionally, the lore aspect is changed quite significantly since it's stated that in her original lore, Vi used Chem-Baron Mining Gauntlets to save trapped people in a mine before being noticed by Enforcers/Wardens from Piltover and had them upgraded. This is of course similar to what happens in Arcane but altered slightly.

jinx’s portrayal was absolutely heart wrenching, i adore it. it was such a good way to show how her trauma effects her in her own specific way and how she refuses to grow up,, she’s trapped in a version of that person she was when everything with her friends happened and can’t move past it. plus the ending with the chairs was incredible. i just love how they visually showed her mentality.
edit: woah hello thank you for all the likes ! as someone who’s been diagnosed with ptsd and has struggled with trauma and the idea of who i once was vs who i am now, abandonment, and how people remember who i used to be jinx’s portrayal spoke to me on a very deep level. even just down to the way she breaks down or her thought processes when her past is brought up,, how she regresses into powder and how it’s so obvious she’s built up this personality to protect herself now and still struggles deeply and goes back to just being a scared, irritable little kid when she faces something her mind isn’t ready to process yet,, it’s really a touching portrayal. obviously there’s a lot that’s different in her case, but i appreciate their portrayal of the effects traumatic experiences and guilt can have on someone.

Zaun wasn't prepared for a revolution and Silco was already from the start against the idea of turning Jinx in which would've been a nonnegotiable demand by Piltover, due to her clear involvement in actual terrorism. The only way to keep Jinx and Zaun safe at the same time, was to trust in the weaponization of the gemstone which ironically only Jinx could achieve.
So to keep Jinx safe he has to rely on her to save herself, which is impossible if she gets torn between Vi and Silco or - arguably even worse - getting arrested by Vi's enforcer friend Caitlyn who he knows nothing about except for the fact that she's eagerly investigating against his adoptive daughter.

They won't kill the league characters because Arcane is canon to league lore. Scenery of Piltover are identical to 8 year old videos (get jinxed), and Arcane just built on the preexisting (although pretty sparce) Vi/Jinx lore. Since other RIOT shows have been in production for many years, we may see a show where a league champion dies, maybe one placed in the Shadow Isles, where a ton of undead champions live. Definitely excited for whatever they have in store though, they smashed it with Arcane.
