    Wow, that's wonderful that you trained with one of the original kongoken passed down from Sensei Miyagi. I picked up an original nigiri-game passed down from Sensei Miyagi thru Seiko Kina (Junkokan) to Anichi Miyagi to my Sensei.....but it was too precious to train with because Kina Sensei inherited a pair but broke one of them during training - the other is like a relic now. Kongoken on the other hand, is almost indestructible in training so you can do whatever with it without reservation! It is also really great how Sensei Che mentions the background, the origins of all his Chiishi, some of them going back decades! Imagine all the senior students who must have trained with those same Chiishi so many years ago!

      I am so jealous that you and Ché have had the opportunity to train with these precious karate artefacts! Poor Kina Sensei must have felt terrible breaking one of the nigiri-game - hopefully they were able to make something out of the pieces using kintsugi.
      There's a line by my favourite author, Terry Pratchett - no man dies while his name is still spoken. Maybe no sensei ever dies while their equipment is still used.

      Hi Curtis,
      Thank you so much! We've touched on replacing the chishi with a sledgehammer in these two videos: th-cam.com/video/8n_9IWQke5s/w-d-xo.html
      and
      th-cam.com/video/GELCAvyRSo4/w-d-xo.html
      Hopefully it will help you in your own training! A sledgehammer is much easier to procure, and wonderful for home training.
      Apologies for our delayed response to your comment :)

    Your kongoken is from Congo as its name suggests.

    • @jasonmorgan2799
      @jasonmorgan2799 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The kongoken is unique to Okinawan Goju-Ryu and was based on a steel ring used by Hawaiian wrestlers. After seeing this in Hawaii, Miyagi Chojun Sensei on his return to Okinawa decided to develop a similar piece of equipment changing the shape to oval... Not so much the DRC...
