Good day! Roger, I am a representative of that part of your audience who loves the sea, yachting and travel without wrappers. Thank you for your work and for not being stingy to share your impressions and experiences with us. For me, you are a teacher and an example. The most attractive thing about simplicity to me is its beauty. Best wishes, Dmitry.

From someone who will probably never set out to sea, thanks so much for the many ways in which you have revealed the nature of that great wilderness to us, and also for sharing your thoughts on this, and on life. Simple sailing is a concept that extends beyond the maritime world, in my mind.
And there's no need to be reserved about promoting your work. By promoting it, you help it to sail into more minds. It's only the promotion of worthless things that's a scandal; that which is worthy needs as much promotion as possible.

I just ordered the fifth book. I love your writing style and skill. As an aside, I bought a little sailboat last Summer (my first), and while sailing off Eastern Nova Scotia, a whale came up immediately in front of my boat. I was absolutely delighted !!!

I enjoyed an old interview with you on Furled Sails podcast years ago. Love your approach and after spending some time cruising a larger boat, I am making plans to Junk Rig a Coronado 23 and upgrade its seaworthiness for coastal cruising in the NorthWest U.S. Would love audio books. Please consider that. For now, I will start with your first book on Kindle. Thanks for the inspiration and "how to"!

A little window into an original thinker, a delight to discover. Having the sea & nature as our mirror & building boats as a creative act. Witnessing the developement & listening to the muses as they see fit to direct & we understand to follow.

I have to admit I've read them back to front. I stumbled upon book 5 by accident and was hooked. Book 4 followed immediately and so on. I'm just about to start number 1 and cant wait for that adventure to start. Roger, what an inspiring, committed, eloquent, writer you are. Your writing style is just fantastic, dry and witty, self deprecating when necessary, never triumphant but we all know that reaching the latitudes you have and bagging the high latitude sea's most people have never heard of is a hell of a personal triumph for you. Thanks so much for a cracking set of books 👍

Thank You, Mr Roger Taylor. You have been an inspiration for me to sail out in a smaller boat (S.Y. Rolwolk) (see channel TH-cam) to explore northern seascapes, isles and myself. I wrote too, but kept this privately. I love your books, read them all, as they were published along the years. Always explaining new views, details of being at sea, never repeating yourself. Modest too, honest very , the more: full of love. I see the energy of a guardian angel, guarding all followers to really understand your dedication to the very detail, both from outside, more important from your inner self. A guide, a warning and stimulant at the same time, as there is so much to explore, so much to be part of underway. Thank You!, Minimal sailing to the max! And there will be audio versions of your books too? This is the way of the real guardian angel! No use to tell you I bought all your books. Thank you Mr Roger. Thank you very much.

Apologies, I read number two then number four but in my defence I came to them via your videos, which rather mucked up my usual approach to a set of books.
I asked, in the comments of a previous video of yours, how did you fill your time? or some such question, and got what seemed a curt response. In book four I got the full answer to my original question and see now how impossible a youtube reply would have been. I recently spent 26 days at sea, sailing, and found my mind went to places it normally never has time to go to and I appreciate you sharing your mental travels. By the way, love the minimalist illustrations.

    Hi Roger,
I was introduced to your story, books, and videos by a sailing friend of mine. I got a copy of the first book and couldn’t put it down. I love your book, witting, and your style/philosophy of sailing and your incredible adventures. I’m a small boat sailor in Maine and am inspired by what you have done with small boats.
Is there an easy way to buy all your books at once? After reading the first book, I know I want to read them all in order and would prefer to order at once rather than one at a time through your website. Id also prefer to order direct from you rather than Amazon.
    Thanks so much for everything!

It's a shame if you do not do any more trips, nor write any more books as I have loved every one. I certainly feel the sense of change, as you work through the series. I must say, I prefer the later ones, as your descriptions of the sense of wildness, and sense of being alone, improve as the series progresses. I find immersing oneself in that is a great antidote to the modern world. Just ordered the impossible journey. Amazon has three left now!

Dear Roger. Forgive my familiarity but as I am just about to start your 4th book; I feel I know you. Forgive me , too , as I step gently into your distant watery footprints for another important reason. I have a sister ship to Mingming; Corribee II set up as junk-rig. Her name, as a nod to my late father to whom I grinningly owe all my boat experiences and fascinations, is Valiant II. I could string on in my story but suffice to say, and in conclusion, I was delighted to look up the Chinese translation for the word valiant and it is by no small coincidence, “Yingming”. My journey is just beginning as I gain knowledge and experience with my new-to-me little boat and the transition from Bermuda to Junk rig.
Thank you for your experiences and generosity in the world of small boat sailing and to what is possible. Eric. Nova Scotia.

In that video you mentioned you wish you had a wood mast, where are you getting your data for your aluminum mast, and how would you build your wood mast? I'm about to convert a 28 foot boat , I'm able to source spar grade sitka spruce , or can buy a light post, is the practical junk rig the best and only info on metal thickness, and wood mast construction?

I puchased MingMing the art of minimal sailing which i enjoyed more than any other sailing books ive read.
Your a unique and interesting writer.
Not only am i in awe!,of your sailing voyages but also how you must make use of every bit of time to be able to convert your boats , do your writing and make a jordon seris drogue inbetween everything else you do.
Although i have cruised Scotland and the islands extensively in a kingfisher 20 sloop singlehanded and my dog i also am converting another kf 20 into junk rig but making slow progress.
Hope to emulate parts of your Northern Hemishere cruises in future years.

    • @junkming
      @junkming  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for that. We've only ever sent books out individually, as it's logistically easier to post them in individual envelopes. Also if a a package goes astray, which often happens for overseas orders, there is less loss. There's no money made on overseas orders as it is - there is a £3.50 flat postal rate charge, wherever in the world, but the US cost is actually £8.80 (can't remember Australia cost right now, but probably similar). So the already slim margin is completely eroded. That doesn't matter as it's more important to me that people read the books than I make any money from them.
