    I bought that guitar after a excruciating guitar search all over. I ended up taking the pick up system out and putting a k&k in there and now it’s my baby! Love this guitar!
    Thanks for the review!

    Back and sides are solid. I played this and a D18, went home with this one! (it was NOT a price thing, believe me) I think this guitar is just great sounding.

    I’ve had a d-16e for a year now and I play it everyday and at every gig we do it’s one awesome guitar and you don’t have to worry as much if it was a vintage expensive Martin .. I play it outside in the heat ..inside …in the rain ..it goes everywhere with me

      That's awesome. It's funny how more affordable guitars live better lives than more expensive guitars. Living in a case and getting played once every other month with white gloves on is not a cool story for a guitar lol.

    nice review. I actually ordered one after it. All the other reviews had the guitar going through amazing mics but you did yours on the phone which was a good indication of the sound quality.

      Just fyi, I found out after the fact that Guitar Center mislabeled the tag. It wasn't a regular 16, it was a 16 special. I did a follow-up explaining the difference here: th-cam.com/video/2gqwHyw5-MY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bxAUcDfuX-xAhpS4
      ... Did you buy a 16 special or a regular 16?

      Thanks! I actually found out that this is not a d16, but rather a D16 special. Basically it's an HD 28 with lower grade spruce, no herringbone, Satin finish, and the bracing is shifted or something ( but it is scalloped). I did a follow-up video on the same guitar if you're interested:

    This is the special 16 style rosewood, same depth and bracing of a standard HD28, the thin body is on the 16e which is not this guitar

    You can tell if the back and sides are solid if you can match the grain on both sides.

    It’s solid back and sides, and the ebony fretboard. Only difference from D28 is the herringbone around guitar and the neck is built different. Same bracing. Tuners are Martin and not Grover also

    • @BillySoundFarm
      @BillySoundFarm  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm pretty sure a D28 does not have herringbone, or hasn't since the 1940s or something. That was the whole concept of the HD28, they put the herringbone back in and scalloped the bracing

    Just keep it on the low down. I like to record myself like guitar Center because the acoustics are so good in the room but I also got crap for recording myself. I guess we’re not allowed to keep it under the radar sounds good actually

    There is a special guitar center model called the Special 16 Rosewood, which is this same guitar but with the depth of a dreadnought, for I believe the same price as this and a lot closer to the HD28

    • @BillySoundFarm
      @BillySoundFarm  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ahh another comment I brought that up but I didn't know it was a guitar center exclusive

      @@BillySoundFarm yes. I own one of them. Now the one you reviewed didn’t seem as thin as the other D16’s I’ve seen and when I bought my Special 16, the guy who sold it to me did so claiming it was a D16. So, I’m wondering if you actually had a mislabeled special 16 rather than a d16 in your hands, but if you saw inside in the neck area and it said anything other than SPECIAL, the it was anything but. There’s a bit of confusion between these two guitars but here is a video which explains it all in depth in case you or any of your viewers are interested: th-cam.com/video/EhQDT9O9138/w-d-xo.htmlsi=846D2o_ktP3716Hu

    You reviewed the D16 special two months ago and said the D28 was a better buy but this D16e and D16 Special is essentially the same spec (minus the back depth)

    • @BillySoundFarm
      @BillySoundFarm  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same D16 special in both videos, it was marked d16e mistakenly on the Guitar Center label and I didn't realize it in the first video (this one you commented on was the first). If I had actually checked the depth against another Martin D model I would have realized something was up... so technically I haven't played a D16 but I'm sure the shallower body makes a big difference. The D16 special is basically like an HD 28 with a satin finish and no herringbone, and lower grade tonewood.

    • @Cousin_Gregg
      @Cousin_Gregg หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BillySoundFarm my point is, you played a 16 special in both videos, but in the first video, you said it wasn’t as good as a D28. Then you flipped your opinion in the second video a few months later. So which is it? Genuinely curious, no criticism.

    • @BillySoundFarm
      @BillySoundFarm  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Cousin_Gregg well, in the video where I said a D28 was better, I was just going on my memory of a D28 and my warm fuzzy feelings. But in the video that I thought I would take the D16 special, I literally had played a D28 10 minutes before that... so I think my comments in the second video are more reliable with regards to any comparison

      @@BillySoundFarm Sound preference is so subjective. I recently discovered Eastman after my sons bought me a relatively inexpensive one which fired my curiosity. So I went and tried out models in the price range of the Martin D-16e and was blown away. I never been satisfied with any Martins I owned. Got rid of my last ridiculously expensive Martin (over $4k) after buying a Yamaha at a 1/4 of the price which blew the Martin out of the water. My next expensive guitar will be an Eastman. However being sound is subjective, you may still prefer a Martin, and generally they hold a better resale value.

    I played one and it sucked compared to a D 18, just played a couple of those and don't waist your time and spend a little more and buy a D 18 that will last you for ever and sound fantastic.

    • @BillySoundFarm

      I actually found out that it's not a d16e, It's a d16 special. So it does not have a shallower body, and it actually has scalloped bracing. It's basically an HD 28 but the bracing isn't forward shifted and the finish isn't as shiny. And most importantly, the quality of the wood is nowhere near what you would get on an HD 28... I shot a follow-up video it'll be out in a few days
