2 years later this is the phone I still repair the most. Even if its 2 generations old. When I first started learning how to repair cell phone, I first started off with iPhones. The cost of parts are cheap, and they are also the easiest to learn.
Tools and Equipment I use:
For Samsung freezer for glass separation on Amazon amzn.to/2SmrFuT
Cell phone repair screwdriver tool kit with different tips needed amzn.to/2QUcAV3
Exact Heat Gun I use with Temp control knob to open phones amzn.to/2LAnzgq

Hey Richard, thanks for going to the trouble of making these videos! Really helps a poor boy out! My iphone 7 is working like New now. Your the man!
Huge thumbs up! I never would have gotten through my own phone repair watching the edited '5 minute' videos. Your detailed step by step instructions were invaluable! I also appreciate the entrepreneurial angle of your channel. Recommending this to everyone. Thank you so much!
Thank you!
just fixed my iphone 7 plus. Truth be told, watched another video and then watch this one. By far more detailed and you also provide different angles which is great.. Thank you.
Hands down THE BEST iPhone repair video on the Net. Period ! Thanks much! Subscribed !
Thank you👍
Just wanted to pop in and say thank you for this video! I shattered my screen, went into the apple repair store, and they told me they couldn't fix it and that I should get a new model (for only $390!). Found this video, dropped $25 on a repair kit with a screen, fixed the damn thing, and saved $365. Wasn't too hard, just time consuming as it was my first time doing this kind of work. So thank you for helping me not go broke over a phone.
By any chance was that phone a iphone7 ? I need to change my screen but have a few questions
Thanks for taking the time to share this info. A really helpful and indispensible walk-through! Beware the new screen is easily cracked during the last step -as I unfortunately discovered thinking I could do the last step without following your instructions! Another screen and attempt 2 all good :)
Richard. Youve been a major inspiration for me to step my store up. I look forward to talking to you, and wondered if its ok to call you at your store. I just have some quick questions on which machines I should have, and which brand are best. Oh, also whats better Loca vs Oca and why. Thank you and God bless you brother for all you do
Call my shop tomorrow.
Will do. Talk to you in the a.m. 👍🏽🙏🏼
Richard: Great step-by-step guide to changing my iPhone 7 screen. I don't have any criticisms whatsoever -- it provided the detail I needed. Some tips to help the novice out like me: (1) I followed your suggestion to place the parts and screws together; however, I accidentally bumped the my table, so the screws moved around. You may want to indicate when a screw is a different size than the others for a particular part to help out when mistakes are made; (2) I don't know if you do this our not, but placing the work "Realistic" in your video title really helps me out when searching for your other videos; (3) you may want to have a video showing how to remove the screen from the LCD (which I bet you've already done; if so, ignore this comment); and (4) you may want to provide some tips on inspecting a screen received from a seller to determine if it is defective or not, since the first screen I received was defective (i.e., a piece was broken), and I didn't find out until I tried to use the home button after installing the screen. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your video, and the helpful hints you provided from your experiences. Five stars.

Thanks a lot Rickard!! 🙌 Your guide helped me through replacing a new screen and saved me money! Millions thanks again!! 😊

Thank you for the video Richard! Other than replacing screens what are the other major replacements/fixes that you do almost daily for iPhones?
Screens 90% charge ports 5% and batteries 5%. That's pretty much all the calls I get. That's for all phones.
Thank you for your time Richard!
Thanks for this very clear and precise vidie with all the tips probably the best iphone 7 explanation saved me a fortune. My kids break the screens all the time.
Where do you buy the screen from?
At around 30:40 you say about that rectangle bit fitting into that little slot.. Is that the reason why sometimes to phone doesn't clip in down the bottom?
Most likely. I would have to see it. Depends what type of screen you are using. You can remove that rectangle thing if it gets in the way. I do it sometimes. Just dont damage the tiny micro chips its covering.
@@RichardMeza ok then, I didn't know you could remove it.. Thanks for the reply :-)
Thank You Richard, you have a gift to teach. looking forward to watching more tutorials.

Hi what's the best place to get screen replacements that are near OEM quality for cheap?
I’m not here to make money but thank you I finally don’t have to pay the extortionate prices of repair shops and can do it myself
Exactly lol fr fr
hey man where do u get your screens from?
Thank you for this detailed video, do you have a link to a good screen replacement source?
Great Video On iPhone Repair. It's nice to see a good POV to further my knowledge
Thank you!
I very much appreciate this video. I followed the tutorial all the way through, and even watched it all the way through 3 times prior to cracking open my phone. My luck though, is that nothing literally ever works for me, as intended. In the test phase of the install; it took half an hour to boot up. This is directly related to screen swapping, because it booted fine all day, and had to turn off/on multiple times yesterday, as I kept having to text call someone. I even placed the old cracked screen back, in order to test and it booted quickly/perfectly. I should've stopped at the point where it took over an hour to get the glue loose enough for the screen to break free. Even with my heat gun. But, being the glutton for punishment that I am; I kept going. I know everything was placed correctly, because I have one of those magnet mats to place everything, like the screws and heat shields. I kept testing through the whole process, and it ALWAYS took 30 minutes to boot. Once I got it back together, completely and closed; it gets really hot before boot even completes, and the home button will not work at all. I get the message that "touch id is not available". It does still charge and recognizes iTunes. Did I get a bad screen? How badly did I screw it up? I've triple checked all of the ribbons and there's no damage to any of them that I can tell. :(
Have you put the home button back on your original cracked screen and see if the touch ID worked again?
When replacing the screen do you use the icopy machine?
I'm thinking about maybe jumping into this cell phone end. I am already an electronics tech/engineer and can actually rework surface mount components. It appears however, that most of the repair centers on broken screens and I would guess bad solder joints on switches, jacks, and usb charging sockets. I specialize mainly in vintage audio as of late, but have had my own car stereo shops and have fixed and modified pretty much anything that come along. I can print and etch my own pcb's. So, with that being said, I'm going to watch your video. I have watched other peoples video's and am seeing very simplex repairs ie removing circuit boards, cable disconnects, etc. Thanks.
The entire business is 90% cracked screens, 5% charging ports, 5% battery replacements. On occasion a camera replacement. With Androids it's the exact same thing but add in cracked back glass covers which are simple to do. Ofcourse they are simple once you get the hang of everything and do them several times and get confident once you get several under your belt. I had zero electronic repair experience before I got into this and started right into building it into a business. If other people are doing it, why cant you do it and make money too.
Thank you Richard, I appreciate your reply. I believe I have all the tools that I need, but I am going to order the package you have linked to anyway. I'm going to need a few screens and the heating appliance as well. Probably start into it with just the I6 and I7 phones for now, just to get me started. There is only one shop here in town that would be competition. That isn't a worry for me and maybe even healthy competition. I'm am completely confident in my skill set. I've been doing this type of work for decades now. The cell phone are a lot the same as many other items that I have worked on. Looking forward to giving it a try. I appreciate the videos that you have posted and realize you really don't need to be posting them. I appreciate your time and will update you of my progress later on. I also have funds on hand for any collateral damage that my take place to these phone. Like anything else it will take me a little getting used to. I am used to soldering smt parts that are really nothing more than a speck. I have several forms of high power magnification in my shop. My favorite being the optical loops. I may order a camera or two and the a couple charging ports as well. I'm can't help but wonder if I can solder some of that stuff. Maybe I'm being to old fashioned, but that is how I have repaired thousands and thousands of item. Once again I appreciate your time. I wish you much luck and continued ramped up repairs and income. Thanks, Tom
@@triceps1961 with iPhones everything is a simple pop in connection. That's for all iPhones all the way up to the current iPhone XS. There is no soldering involved. With the Samsung galaxy models everything starting at the old galaxy S4 is a pop connection. No soldering. Only the new galaxy S10, the charging port is part of the motherboard. That requires soldering to fix that port on the S10. The Samsung Note phones it's all pop in connection with charging ports.
Thank you so much! It is very thorough and helpful!
You did such a great job demonstrating. Highly interested in getting started with this type of business!
The best tutorials out there!! Thanks for the great video! :)
Welcome👍
where do you buy your screens from mr? ive bought so many different iPhone7 Displays from Amazon... they where mostly crap... 3D touch wasnt working properly.. by pressing stronger on the screen the screen was flickering... and the colors where extremely bad... and i bought different ones.. also the glas isnt the same as the original shape ... the original one bounds in perfect with the case the fake one has a plastic frame sticking out at the borders...
and your videos are the best! :)
greetings from a turkish guy living in germany xD
I've used the same supplier for the last 5 yrs. The thing with a website like Amazon or Ebay, the popular selling stuff is sold at the cheapest price. And there are different quality aftermarket screens. You cant tell or rely on what you are gonna get. I'm going to put out a course with a private FB group with all the info everyone has been asking me about which will have my direct supplier contact info, business name and number. I'll keep everyone posted about it.
In depth guide thanks.
Is there room for two phone repair stores in SD?
Do i have to put the Afeax OEM on ?
Hello, What brand of replacement screen do you recommend for the iPhone 7 (A1660)?
You are very good teacher man
Another good video Richard. Followed the instruction. Had to do it twice as I was sent a dud screen the first time. Anyhow I got a problem with the home button. Finger print works but button doesn’t work so good. Used to vibrate a lot and when I did the fingerprint scanning, I was getting messages that I was pushing too hard but I actually wasn’t. I did a software update and the then the button stopped working and no more vibrate like it did before. Touch still works and I can register a new fingerprint and now I don’t get a message about pressing too hard, but button doesn’t work properly for going home. I can do a double click but not a single click to go home. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
Great video, helped me alot!
👍
Great video..just a small suggestion for the plastic front camera holder you can use very very little amount of glue to hold it up there
👍
Where exactly can I order the screens from? I've looked on amazon but all of those come with the tools. How can I find just the screens?
Are you only looking to fix your own phone or a supplier to start a business?

I have another caveat that has been puzzling me Richard. When replacing screens and removing the water resistant material, do you ever have the occasion to reinstall new water resistant material? Thanks
If you reuse the seal and don't replace it the water resistance will be compromised.
Hello, whenever I repair an iPhone 7, the Y shaped screws just keep spinning and spinning, would you recommend me getting a new Y000 screwdriver?
Do you mean the screws are getting stripped?
I mean like, the head of the screw is completely fine, just the screw itself stay in its place but doesn't come out..
Hopefully I'm giving you a good picture of what I mean haha
@@backfatbetty9145 I would have to see which part. There are screws all over the screen and phone using the Y tip.
@@RichardMeza its happened to where the home button is and on the metal plate.. Pretty much, muhh wherever there is a y shape screw haha
It's like the screw has nothing to bite onto so it won't budge.. Hopefully that will help with what I mean
Hey Richard.. I want to venture into mobile iphone repairs.. But I don’t feel comfortable fixing phones in front of clients or in clients homes of offices..
Any suggestions on setting up a mini workstation to fix phones in a car? I want to do that before investing in a shop..
What says you sir?

What's the reason why not? Your going to have to do it.
Hello, I replaced my iphone 7 screen and before I put it back together I tested the new screen and it worked, then after I got it all finished it is now very dim almost completely dark and saying that my "says unable to activate Touch ID on this iPhone" so I can't use my phone, I can answer it if someone calls but that's it. Do you know of any reason it might be doing this? I'm assuming I've didn't do something right when I put back together but am not sure what it might be. Any thoughts or suggestions..
Plug in the original cracked screen and see if it turns back to normal.
I figured out why it was so dim. Now it's just the home button not working, going to open it back up tomorrow and see what I can figure out :) thanks again for responding to me earlier, I appreciate it :)
10 little minded Apple fanboys didn't like someone besides one of their Apple anointed messiahs being able to fix their precious iphones, so their panties got all bunched up and gave this great instructional video a thumbsdown. Hi Richard. Thank you for great video. Unfortunately I watched it after I made an attempt to repair my phone... Replacing the screen on my iPhone 7, I forgot unplug battery and now phone is not rebooting. Nothing happens if I press the button on the right side. Seems I burned something. Do you know from your experience which part is broken now?
It could be the backlight fuse. A micro chip could have burned out. It causes the display not to show. You maybe able to see it if its in the light at an angle. Its fixable but requires micro soldering on the motherboard.
REPAIR QUESTION: hi richard! i know someone who has an iPhone 7 plus and the screen is cracked. also, she can't get to the apps. could just a screen repair be the fix or is it another issue? she just called me about it
The cracked screen is probably making the screen malfunction. The touch probably isnt working like it used to. Screen replacement should fix that issue.
@@RichardMeza oh okay!!
Hi nice video who is your screen supplier
I am very curious, what You do with the original broken screen, do You have video how u fix it and how you put out the screen to use again the LCD???
I sell the broken iPhone screens off for money.

Hi Richard. Really enjoying your videos. I also run a busy phone repair business and have only just recently looked into doing glass only repairs for Samsung etc. Currently I am doing full replacement in frame Samsung repairs and its very expensive indeed for my customers. I am curious if you looked into different brands of the freezer and if it made any difference to you reliability wise, availability etc as I have 3 brands I have investigated including Jiutu.
And I am keen to hear how you chose LOCA over OCA and why.
Look forward to growing our phone repair businesses at the same time.
Much appreciated

I know how to do both Loca and Oca. I make a video next week about it.
@@RichardMeza I'm buying the freezer as we speak. Just got to decide which one...
i like to orderiphone 7 part from one known company ,but i dont know please what company to order part are you recomanded there website address please ?
Do you sell the original apple lcd ? Or do recycle them onto a new glass to ultimately use it on a new phone for repair
Refurbish.
I'm learning a lot. Thank You!
You're welcome. I'll keep putting out new videos.
thank you so much you help a lot
How do you deal with screws that wont come out ? I encountered this problem plenty of times...
You mean the ones on the sides that hold the back plate metal shield? I use a pair of pliers and move it back and forth on that spot until that piece breaks off whenever that situation comes up. It's ok if that happens. There are other screws around it that will make up for it. Does that answer your question? Or is you mean screws from another area?
@@RichardMeza yes that's where I get into this situation the most what about when it's to get the first 2 Pentalobe since it's very hard to get a hold of them
@@ppj228 #1 cause is your pentalobe screwdriver tip is probably worn out. Buy another one. They shouldn't be hard to get out. #2 sometimes you'll get a screw that just keeps spinning. So at the 4:46 mark you see how I put that iSeasomo blade tool in like that, pull up a little on the screen with that tool stuck in like that. That should give it traction so the screw will come out.
@@RichardMeza do you have a link for the pliers you use? I looked on amazon and dont see any nano size one

The screen actually says touch not available? Put the old screen back on and see if it goes back to normal. If it does, the screen you have is bad.

If are also replacing the battery which one do you do first
Do them at the same time. You have to take out the screen to change out the battery

Hi I did this but the home button and fingerprint reader do not work any more. I was very careful not to damage the home button when removing it, have you any suggestions? thanks

My Iphone 7 just broke and I got to your video. Great, however, I ask you for help .... would it be possible to list or point out the parts that were exchanged? I am looking for where to buy them, however, it is difficult due to the availability that appears in stores. Thank you very much and congratulations on your success.
If you need to buy small parts for a one time gig, you can buy them on Ebay.
you missed the screw that goes onto the earpiece rubber gasket on the lcd bro.
I know someone who started doing this 4 months ago. Within 4 months he's started to net 400 phones a month. He's pulling in 30K in pure profit a month off of these phones. Literally wild. I'm looking at doing the same. Hoping I can do at least one phone a day, which means around $2,000 extra a month to start.
Weird how does the touch button and id is okay. It should be not working since it is not an original lcd
Because I'm still using the original Touch ID button. It just gets transferred over to the new screen.
As a repairer like you, this is such a lovey detailed video. Although, I believe if you want to get more views, your video has to be short and precise as people prefer watching a shorter video with all the necessary details. In conclusion, this video has been helpful for me and I'm wishing you success in your youtube channel.
The hardest part of this are the screws not coming out. Make sure you have a good set of screwdrivers like he does in the video, or you're likely going to constantly get stuck like I did.
