The story of Barry Seal, an American pilot who became a drug-runner for the CIA in the 1980s in a clandestine operation
that would be exposed as the Iran-Contra Affair.
Barry Seal was just an ordinary pilot who worked for TWA before he was recruited by the CIA in 1978.
His work in South America eventually caught the eye of the Medellín Cartel, associated with Pablo Escobar,
who needed a man with his skill set. Barry became a drug trafficker, gun smuggler and money launderer.
Soon acquiring the title, 'The gringo that always delivers'.

He could've survived but they wanted to make an example of him

@@peoplez129 - not necessarily. It would completely depend on speed and angle of incidence relative to the machine gun as to how many bullets would hit in a given area. Also dependent on the gun operator skill...

If it were full of petn, it would have made a .50 hole followed by a foot or so crater in the aluminum around it. But if it missed spars and other reinforcement or controls, it probably wouldn't have even detonated.

There's an interview with an ex CIA handler, and he says that when they look for assets, the look for narcissistic sociopaths who can be easily manipulated by feeding their egos. Basically, telling them they'll be gathering info for the CIA is enough, money is a bonus, and they don't think about how it ends for them. They don't have to lie about some fake CIA retire plan for assets, because they don't think that far ahead. They're getting off on the feeling that they're an important spy.
