The train line and highway follow a rather precarious ridgeline through the mountains. Those massive cliffs falling down to the valleys are on either side and form an impenetrable labyrinth on both the ocean side and western side of the Great Dividing Range which runs from the northern tip of Australia for thousands of km all the way down to the south before turning west just north of Melbourne. The canyons and tree ferns do go back all the way to the dinosaurs. Relatively recently a dozen primitive living fossil Wollemi Pines were discovered in a lost canyon which were kept secret until they could be mass propagated to protect them.. Its fun to stand on the lookout next to the 3 sisters and chat to the rock climbers as they work their way up the sisters on the other side of the gap. Before they cut the steps quite a few sections were simply long ladders on the cliffs.
Jobs are the source of our colllective misery, ruling our lives and preventing us from enjoying ourselves. So sad the way we live like slaves and it’s only getting worse..
For the Sydney experience including downtown (opera house, Bridge etc) the main tourist beaches (Bondi, Manly) and then the Blue Mountains you could comfortably do it in 5 days or even 4 days. Then another week to see Cairns, Gold Coast and Byron or alternatively go down south to Melbourne and Tasmania.
Christmas in July is an awesome experience for the Sydney-siders to celebrate up at the Blue Mountains. Sometimes snow, sometimes not, but fantastic dinners at gorgeous restaurants to celebrate a COLD christmas.
Very impressed you did that whole walk in a pair of sandals. Yes I do agree the weather has been somewhat crappy.. And now you decided to chase the sun.
Great tour showing how you can be in a leafy suburban setting and then step back in time in the oldest landscape on earth. How convenient that you can do this 2 hours from downtown Sydney. You can literally leave early morning on the train spend all day up in the mountains then come back in the evening. No need to stay overnight.
If you are going to Cairns 10 mins from the Airport is the boat harbour then 45mins on a ferry to Fitzroy island where you can snorkel straight off the beach with green turtles. The coral is great as well and the walk amazing. You can stay or go over and back in a day. Ps. Take your own snacks.
It was great to see the Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains as I have spent a lot of time in the Three Sisters Wilderness in Oregon. Thank you, it was beautiful!

hi Gabriel, that was amazing the weather did cooperate to some extent. That was like when you went to the Grand Canyon but instead of it being dry and arid and very humid and lush incredible green canopy.
