      +CROSS TRAINING, ENDUROCROSS & ENDURO TECHNIQUES rofl! Just remember, I wish I was a descendant of a convict! (Actually, I probably am somewhere down the line!) I'll leave the technical cool stuff to you guys... I'll stick with the absolute beginner basics because that way riders who are actually good won't yell at me in the comments ;) haha!

    Ok Ok, you've talked me into braving the wind, cold and ice (ref our recent exchange about our winter vs your summer...). Too late today, tomorrow I'm going to go down the street to an empty windblown lot (snow's all blown away) and do this drill! Thanks for the inspiration Brother!

    Awesome video! The figure 8 is My number one practice that I do at the start of everride. I mean every ride! The next step is to start practice them on the sides of hills and on different terrain, like snow and rough dirt. The improvements in balance are amazing and immediate.

    • @eveRide
      @eveRide  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michel van Werven I was surprised at how much fun a "drill" could be. I thought it would just be a good way to teach some tips, but we got out there and started riding in 8s, and didn't stop for a few hours because we made a game of it :)

    • @michelvanwerven2290
      @michelvanwerven2290 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +eveRide ADV the better you get, the faster you go how more difficult it gets. It's fun instead of a boring drill. Make a game/race again each other or time it. A little competition goes a long way.

  • @Kaianine
    @Kaianine 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    getting the overhead view from the drone really helps to get a perspective on how big (or small) to do the figure 8's. using a backpack, a cone, or even a bush as a focal point for the turn will help you be consistent in your turns!
    you slightly mentioned it at the end, but after practicing the figure 8's on flat ground, try practicing one or both ends off-camber, or on a slope for more skill practice!

    • @eveRide
      @eveRide  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +kaianine yeah I was actually a bit embarrassed with the overhead shot because what I thought were tight turns were actually quite off! It's all good, though... I'm definitely not a pro :)

  • @osimnod
    @osimnod 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent tip and reminder. Have watched the Beginners Trials videos from Barry of OZ and found they helped my confidence immensely. Jarvis has said "to ride fast, learn to ride slow". Doing full-lock, idle throttle figure 8's taught me so much about traction and balance. Still have much to learn on technical, rocky trails but am not frightened of the prospect any more. Wheelies? Not so much....

    • @eveRide
      @eveRide  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +osimnod I've wanted to make some slow-riding drill videos for a long while now, but just got so bored filming and editing them. However, doing the figure 8 turned into a ton of fun, so editing wasn't so bad :)

    The drivning really really slow part is an essential part of taking your bike driving license over here in Sweden. They really make you work that and behind every issued license there are hours and hours of what they call “crawl driving”. It is a exercise that is very useful also for street riding as it really improves your over all balance and feel for the clutch / gas.

    Awesome vid man. Also, should mention peg weighting for balance while standing. Now that I'm getting more comfortable standing, I found that it's 10 times easier to balance while standing, because I can shift my weight on the pegs. Bike starts to lean right, unweight / lift your right leg off the peg, bike leans left, then also unweight your left leg. It's kind of counter-intuitive but it works! Now, I have some drills to do, vis a vie Everide's ADV School of Hard Knocks!

    hey, great vid, i see you're hunched over on the black DR when stand up, would you sugest bar risers to straighten your back? i have spent 2-3 hours standing on my F650gs and seriously thinking about spending the money, but don't know if it's going to change the handling of the bike
    Also... noticed your stand touch your heel, when you were changing gear, have you ever hit it going over obstacles?

    • @eveRide
      @eveRide  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +altfseven I never really notice that my heel touches the stand, but a lot of people have complained about that on the DRZ. I actually like that the bars are a little low and tight. When I first started standing I didn't like it, but I just bend slightly more and it's more of an "attack position" stance so I actually like that it's lower.

    Great video as always Mr Everide! Any advide for soft powderish sand riding. My bike on new smyrna beach almost sank in the sand.

      +Adventure Perspective Sand can be mega tricky! I certainly couldn't do slow figure 8s like this in deep sand, but I did make a video with some advice I received that helped me a lot! Check it out: th-cam.com/video/33GG5RYT__w/w-d-xo.html

    hey mister ever run out here in Florida with a 09 KLR 650 I wonder did you ever have problems starting yours in the cold first start in the morning seems to take a couple of cranks to get it going full choke it hits and then it quits then I take the choke off and give it some gas and it seems to start but seems like it's flooding little bit I don't know you ever have any problems like that

      @eveRide  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Deanna Govertsen My KLR always started really easily, even when it was cold, and sometimes didn't even need to be choked. Have you checked the carburetor? Sometimes those can get a little gummy... here's a video that I hope helps! th-cam.com/video/DZr4HqWe1Ek/w-d-xo.html

      Fun to make them tighter and tighter until you start scraping your foot pegs too! Works best with street tyres in a parking lot though

    "The Pro" was doing a figure 8 when he dumped it and I almost ran him over! It is a fantastic practice and warm up technique!

      +California Dual Sport Riders Yeah for sure! It's kinda crazy how much control it teaches/brings back before a ride!

    What gear do you recommend using when doing the slow speed stuff? I find I have much smoother throttle control while in 2nd gear which kinda helps me with the slow speed stuff.

      +Harsha Gurudev Yeah that plastic is broken so those two little antennae on there are actually zipties that are holding it onto a makeshift subframe mount :) It's got the booty-wobble!

    Sometimes, it's hard to focus on church things when I know you're going to be uploading another great video. If I sit up in the choir loft, with nobody behind me, perhaps I can take a peek. It's a terrible temptation.
