      @@TeamFreedom1 I haven't seen the film, but from what I've heard, there is a deliberate message (by which I mean, a message the author intended for you to get) in it:
      The network lives on people's fears, anger, and on sensationalism. The Capitalist system produces an environment that clashes with our sense of justice and fairness, heightening our anxiety. The Network, a Capitalist institution and an entertainment service, knows that to make money, it must appeal to our fears, and so, it stokes these revolutionary sentiments, all while bending them towards the opposing end, the end of authoritarian urge to seize power and control.
      And so they put a man who is mad, truly mad, on the air, making his paranoia into a contagion and victimizing him and his audience, even as the people who work for the Network know he is unhinged and feel sorry for him... they can't help but to victimize him anyways, just as the message of the network can't help but to coopt revolution in service of reaction.
      Again, haven't seen the film, so I might be a little off.

      +Rae Lee guys, look at the right time scale. We used to be caveman, the strong one from the group killed the others if he wanted to. Civilization later provided individual protection but slave-like existence towards feudal lords and kings.
      Mathematics, medicine and science altogether developed, taking people out of deep ignorance and giving us control over our lives like never before... democracies appeared, slavery was abolished, weapons of mass destruction became regulated.
      We forget that history does involve massive change, but it takes time. Go ahead, and start creating the change you need, it will be a part of history one day. it will change the world.

      Oh yeah. Truer words were never spoken. I'm gonna be the one to get mad- The world we live in today is a joke. A civilization not at its adult level of speciation but a teenaged one and frankly that's exactly what we're acting like. A world full of petulant over grown infants full of hatred and malice and massive egos, living examples of the Dunning Kruger effect in action and a corrupted, paranoid, power hungry series of world governments who spy on their citizens violate national constitutions out of ridiculous fear of an abysmal attempt to destroy their government (or which it started on purpose, I dunno, I haven't had time to study the evidence on the matter either way there is no threat anymore, I mean seriously what are technologically disadvantages cultures going to hope to achieve attacking cultures advanced infinitely with satellite weaponary and I apologize if this sounds racist, I'm not against muslims but the terrorists in your culture are shaming themselves and your entire culture, everyone should just calm down and listen to fucking reason is what I think as should everyone else) and because of this long dead war the government monitors everything we do and do whatever they please. And those of us who are outside this circle jerk of stupid barbarism aresmart enough to see the problems in the world, but low and behold no one will listen to us. They don't give a shit. They'll do as they please as the corrupted governments of the world blatantly lie to their people as the people stand by unable to take action by pooling resources and working on logical ways of avoiding conflict and trying to work on some fucking solutions, because as a species frankly we're above this petty bullshit. Frankly the whole species needs to grow up. There's a future out there that awaits us in the stars and the governments of the world and zealots are willing to piss it all away on the world's largest pissing match and dick measuring competition! The people need to get mad and we need to get off our arses and do something logical and try to fix this mess. And we should ALL get mad. Cause this bullshit has to stop. After everything we've achieved we're so fucking close to reaching colonization of the solar system and the whole world is going up in a fucking shitstorm off stupid! It pisses me right off! So let's fucking do something about it already!!

      Demogorgon47 This right here. This is what people need to realise. And yet when you try to raise this with socially conditioned/blissfully ignorant people you're seen as a hopeless idealist, or ridiculed for worrying about things that people don't normally give a second thought. We are diabolically selfish - consumed by greed and power, enslaved by money. Why is it that we have the technology, the manpower and the resources to provide everyone in the world with clean water, food and shelter and yet we just leave them to die in agony?
      Sorry Africa, we know it's the 21st century and all but if we help save all of your poorest and most vulnerable people we might run out of this paper stuff that we attribute value to for some reason even though we could always just create some more out of thin air like we usually do anyway.
      The recent atrocities committed by our governments in Iraq and Afghanistan are unforgivable. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people dead and yet our politicians and our media outlets portray it all as some glorious crusade for justice. Meanwhile in Britain we have the rise of right-wing fascist hate groups like Britain First, the British National Party (BNP) and the English Defence League (EDL) as well as more moderate right wing xenophobes/all out racists like the UK Independence Party (UKIP). Many of our newspapers and TV channels choose to demonise immigrants. They "steal our jobs", they "come over here looking for handouts from the state", they "cost us money", they are "taking away our heritage/culture", creating a senseless "us vs. them" mentality.
      Similarly people who have no choice but to ask for financial support from the government (a meagre handout that is well below the amount actually needed to survive and cover the costs of actively looking for work) are portrayed as lazy, feckless, criminal scum. They are constantly shamed and intimidated throughout the back to work process and often end up working thankless, dead-end jobs simply just to keep on receiving their benefits (i.e. they are not paid a wage on top of their right to financial support, they are literally government slaves). Meanwhile the financial elite that drove us into an economic recession and the politicians who supported and continue to support their absurd and completely self-defeating economic model get away scot-free. Not a single one led away in cuffs after the recession. And despite history repeatedly showing that the best way to lead a country out of recession is to inject huge amounts of money into infrastructure, thus creating jobs and stimulating public spending and the economy as a whole, we are being fed this "austerity" bullshit, which is literally stealing from the poor to give to the rich. And that's just Britain!
      The sad thing is if we all came together as a species and pooled our resources we could be living in some sort of utopia. Again, we have the technology, the manpower, the resources. All that stands in the way is our childish differences and our clinging on to outdated systems and customs. It's nice to see at least one other person out there who feels this way though.

      Little Leigh it's really not satire. This character was honest in his rant and the writers of the film didn't present it as satire either. His ideas were taken and used to market new programming in the film and he was turned into a sideshow. This rant is actually very to the point and not presented as a joke.

      I don't know why in 2000 kinda everything needed to be hated ( i.e. CD's , VHS, DVD's , High end Hi-Fi materials , etc... ) is beyond me . All they made today is more junk garbage than what was made yesterday . Remember when a fridge could still run perfectly well for +/- 40 years today it's only 5 and when lucky 10/15 years , Cars is the same it was said a car for your life today it's barely 10 years or less depending how much you drive and if you care about your car of course .
      Same goes for that so called Global Warming shit most of it are Lies with a marketing message behind it .
      Problem is that the parents are too lazy to talk about their young times to their kids and feeds them with stupid Smartphones and Consoles nice uh?!

    You know what is so sad is that this movie is truly the Genesis eye waking up movie. It send a message back then that a lot of people are just now beginning to understand called, Houston we have a problem. These things that have been spoken of in this movie over 30 years later close to 40 I should say, have raised on until now we have pretty much cross the threshold to the point of no return. Washington DC is a very small district inside of the state of Maryland. They can't take on 320 million Americans. But it starts with us getting mad and just like the movie and say, "I'M A HUMAN BEING GOT DAMMIT MY LIFE HAS VAULE". The rest will be up to us to band together and make history.

    Wow, reading the comments I'm very glad to see that the point of this movie has gone over almost everyone's heads! Everyone watches this scene and goes "Yeah, we need to get mad! Everything's fucked up! We gotta get mad!" but if they actually watched the movie, they'd realize that the character Fitch plays is the problem itself, as this is a satire on sensationalist media.
    Get it now? He's evoking strong emotions in his viewers, getting them to blindly follow his cause. It's called /sensationalist media/. Now, I'm not one of those "wake up, sheeple!!!" types, because I think it's blindly cynical to think that everyone but you and a few hundred others is blind to the truth or some shit, the world doesn't work that way. But, well...
    Maybe you should just watch the whole movie. It's a masterpiece. You might actually get the message.

    • @HelloMyNameIsShun1
      @HelloMyNameIsShun1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      And you are attempting to help progress soceity by what exactly? By coming on youtube to condescend? "this is a satire on sensationalist media" right because in the late 60's/early 70's people like bill o'riley/peirs morgan were running amuck. This isn't to say propaganda didn't exist, but to make a statement as such yours is incredibly ignorant. The fact that this movie was green-lit goes to show how innovation in hollywood still existed at the time. Maybe you should read a little history, i'ts the truth. You might actually enlighten yourself.

      'the point of this move' doesn't matter, it's this scene that most people see before having even seen the movie, how can you then even expect for people to get the point of the movie? The scene by itself shows a different point of view for most people. And imo this isn't bad, it's all the way how you look at things. Nobody is wrong here and nobody is right, the important thing is the message it sends out everything else doesn't matter

    • @christhorton6512
      @christhorton6512 10 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      Well...yes and no. Yes, he is evoking strong emotions -- but he actually believes in what he is saying (the character of Howard Beale does) at this point in the film. The irony and the sad point of the movie is that this searingly unique outburst suddenly becomes enveloped by the greed of the Faye Dunaway and Robert Duvall characters who merely see dollar signs. Howard Beale is given his own show and slowly but surely he becomes only part of the idiocy of television, and then forced to ABANDONED his original message by the higher ups, which results in lower ratings, and finally he is killed. But the original message, "I'm as mad as hell" is all Beale and not pure sensationalism. It is the TV industry that takes this wonderful visceral message and turns it into an opportunity to make TV even larger...and it envelopes and destroys Beale. THAT is the message of this film.
