I’m surprised that Costco would consider accepting gold returns without requiring an assay to ensure counterfeit gold hasn’t been substituted. It’s a known fact that a couple of countries (unnamed here) have been producing fake gold with a weighted alloy core that duplicates real gold weight and are coated with a thin layer of real gold. I doubt that Costco employees have sufficient training to detect counterfeits and I don’t know if any Costco warehouses have the equipment to detect it. There are a lot of buyers that have been scammed and still don’t know it.
