- My first short film ''The Journal'' is a story of a man who is trying to survive in the world of destruction. The man is wandering towards south until he finds a dead mans journal including his research and coordinates to the colony of survivals up in north.
*The Journal placed 3rd at Wasteland Film Festival 2019*

The cinematography in this movie was awesome
It is a rare phenomenon that a gripping, very dark story, should be completely without dialogue. It held me for the entire film and when it abruptly ended, I was left wanting more. Full marks to all involved. you made it seem so real. WELL DONE

I have to say besides the locations and cinematography this movie is lazy and predictable as fuck but it is good if you do want a visual experience and can turn your brain off and forget about there ever being a story

By golly, that fighting scene took it to another level, loved how gritty it got! Hopefully the actors were treated with sauna afterwards, looked like it was shot during a cold evening, lol. Good job maintaining the story dark and desperate.

Great job! Have watched quite a few post-Apoc shorts as a homework assignment for my own scriptwriting.....ranks at the top of the 50 i have watched so far....for an improvement suggestion, i doubt the characters would be wearing such clean new appearing outfits.

Excellent overall. Loved the lack of dialogue. It makes the story speak for itself. The only critique I have, and it's not simply directed towards this film but the vast majority of movies I see, even big budget ones. Why does every character load their weapon (pull the slide back) just before a fight? Common sense would dictate, in a scenario like that, the weapon would always be ready to go. I have to assume it's done for dramatic effect but, as a lifelong shooter and decades long instructor, it just stands out to me like a flashing neon sign whenever I hear or see it. A small detail to be sure and possibly meaningless to anyone but me but its one of those details many people overlook.

When using a BB gun as a prop for a firearm, be careful not to give the audience a direct shot of the barrel; the small diameter will clearly give it away. Otherwise, great job.
There are barrels that small though .22 and 5.7 and more
The Walther PPQ M2 replica for Paintball is the perfect prop. It look real. There is a comparaison on YT with the real 9mm. Both are made by the same company.

Amazing! Probably the best Post Apocalyptic short film I have seen on youtube, great camera work, good editing and amazing colour grading, the only thing I can think of you could improve are the sound effects in some scenes, they are little fit off sometimes but overall you have made a great piece! Hopefully more to come in the future.

A) The canisters on those gas masks don't last forever, so he should have grabbed the ones off the guy with the newly air conditioned head; B) Never, ever bring a rock to a post-apocalyptic gun fight.
Installation of new air conditioning destroyed the mask.

This is why you need to be physically fit I'm 32 year old man that's a retired firefighter with osteoarthritis in my thoracic spine and bad knees I'm not as physically fit as I used to be but in still strong when I need to be like if another man comes at me then yes I'm still an experienced street fighter and I know how to end a fight fast and I'm a former mms fighter with 15 years under my belt but I been doing more stuff like yard work to build up muscles again and get fit

Great work! So there was a short film somewhat like this - it was a special forces guy running... eventually he finds a house that he goes into. He survives fighting (a zombie? can't remember) doing so but as he leaves exhausted he ends up getting shot by another survivor sniping others. Anyone have a link to that one? It was great and beautifully shot too.

it took me until now seeing someone irl use the gasmask to realize how silly the nose on the things look from a side angle.

One thing about a smokeless fire is that it warms the ground.
I suspect if needed the fire hole could be filled with dirt and slept on top of.
quality short film, i like the whole colour of the setting, gives it a dark vibe. Im guessing everyone died from something toxic in the air.
For some reason, the attacker came accross to me as a woman, might be the shape of the jacket...i dont know.

In a PO, this stuff would happen often im guessing, random strangers would attack without reason, maybe they have a reason but the victim wont know, usually they wanna rob u or been following u and then they pounce.

So at the ending screen our hero realizes that this guy is actually raided his hideout find his research and thinks theres a colony of survivors up north but then gets killed buy the brown coated pmk gas mask dude our hero kills it and realizes that the guy who died was actually someone with hope thinking theres a colony of survivors up there? damn that hit hard...

Amazing how 90% of apocalyptic characters wear masks,,
& I complained about wearing my 😷 during the covid19. I'm sick of having to breathe with my mouth and nose covered !!! I don't feel good when I get home after having to wear 😷 for straight 11 hours.
Your brain hurts because of the lack of oxygen....
Now magine wearing that big mask... imagine how dirty and plugged those filters get and is not like u just could buy new ones any time you wanted one!!!

I have seen over 200 AP films and this is well done : It gives a goal , a new idea , good cinematography , and best of all stage props were very realistic. Makes us want to know more about the colony too. You have the talent ,hope you progress in this line of work.

Bravo - got the right feel and locations for a post-apoc situation. About to watch Chapter II.
I'd share with you some extremely petty nitpicks. First, I noticed the character in the beginning had clothes and equipment that looked straight off the LL Bean shelves - brand new, clean, no soiling. In the next scene, they looked much more weathered and worn as you'd expect in an apocalypse 5 years on. Perhaps these scenes were filmed many days apart when props were or weren't available.
Second, the main character's firearm - if I'm not mistaken, that's a BB gun. I guess only firearms folks like myself notice this so it's not a big deal.
In any case, these are only nitpicks. I mention these because your film is extremely well made. Hopefully my comments will aid you in making your future endeavors even better.
